After replacing my radiator on 2002 Suburban coolant temp will not raise to normal operating temp. Put in two new termostats, didnt fix it. Is that small hose going from radiator to reservoir suppose to have fluid coming out of it all the time?

Love your videos, and came here when I was looking to find the radiator drain plug location, but this video left me a little unclear. The rest of the information was terrific, guess it was the tough angle from the underside of the truck.. After popping the hood and seeing the drain hose on the side of the radiator, I found the drain plug right beside it. Perhaps there are different configurations across all the gm models, but for my 01 Sierra, this was definitely a job best done from on top of the radiator.. Easy access, great visibility, no jacks/stands, crawling around on your back... Anyway, I Still love y'all and appreciate all the videos that have been so helpful with my 01 GMC.

I have a 01 Chevy 1500 4.8l V8 extended cab 4x4 I recently changed my radiator and the new radiator didn't have a steam port line connection on it so I researched it and the best option I found was to hook it to the top radiator hose so I did now I can drive about 5 miles at normal operating temperature and then it spikes up fast, i stop to see what's going on and I open my over flow cap bc I dont have a cap on the radiator and it is steaming hot with air bubbling up and I can also hear bubbles or water bubbling through my steam port line. What could cause this and how can I fix it I would really appreciate the help if anyone has some to offer

If you talking about one of the older ones that still had a real radiator cap/fill then all you have to do is take that off, fill it, crank the engine up, watch in the rad until the coolant starts moving. It will suck down as soon as it starts moving (the t-stat opens) so you top it off until it quits going down. Shut the engine down, put the cap on, and go on your merry way. The idiot that thought it was a good idea to remove the radiator cap on the radiator needs to have a hose shoved up their backside and filled until it comes out their nose.

Yeah so if we had low coolant light and stopped at gas station and choice was green or yellow. Went with yellow. Temps are below zero and having flow issue like its plugged up. Had mostly water and some Dex since changing water pump in summer until i added some yellow 5050. Will a flush and refill with Dex maybe fix it or could engine be about dead? It runs but mornings it overheats and i let it sit then try again and whatever was pluged is unplugged and temp goes back to normal.

99 GMC Sierra 5.3L, Z71. There is a large 17mm allen coolant drain plug on the drivers side and I use a 3/8" allen for the smaller drain plug under the starter on the passenger side. Disconnect battery, remove starter bolts, remove the one small 10mm screw that secures the transmission lines to the side of the engine. There is enough room between the engine and starter, so you don't need to remove the starter, just need a little extra room. Torque drains to 44 FT-LBs. There is one more small drain on the drivers side, but I'm afraid that it's difficult to remove in that spot. Maybe with a ball allen, but they are very tight, so I skip that one.

This title should actually read "00 - 03" not to 2006. After 2003 GM did away with the petcock and hose assembly at the bottom of the radiator. After 2003, you have to pull the lower radiator hose and let the coolant spill out everywhere. Naturally after it's done, reattach the lower radiator hose and refill...

+Yougotme tw1sted Thanks for checking us out. If you have the 5.3L V8 the following numbers are the correct amount of coolant: For models with only front A/C - 14.4 quarts, for models with front and rear A/C - 15.8 quarts. 1aauto.com

@@1AAuto Do you actually put almost 15 quarts of antifreeze in the truck? Or is that half coolant half water quarts?

Not all of the radiator come with that hose. They must’ve not known this or forgot to mention it. My 04 Denali did not have that hose until I bought a new radiator that cam with it.

My 2004 4.8L Tahoe doesn’t have the hose. It has the holder, but not the hose itself, or even a drain plug for that matter. I had to drain it by removing the lower radiator hose. It’s not so bad, but it’s hard to get hose clamped back on without a pair of hose clamp pliers. About $30-$35 depending where you look. Hope this helps save some people time!

Mine doesn’t have the hose or the Petcock to drain it. Really flipping annoying Was hoping it would be an easy fluid change. Never changed the coolant before and it’s almost 150k

You drained the old coolant from the radiator but failed to drain old coolant from the engine block or heater core so to my thinking the job is incomplete.

So there is always a way to drain the block. If you haven't drained the block you have only drained about half of the coolant.

I highly recommend super flushing the system and switching to green. Dexcool is known as “dexkill” by many including me. It literally ate a hole in my Impala’s intake manifold.

This is the lazy way to drain and fill coolant system. I'm puzzled on why an automotive parts distributor company would promote such method.

Not a very complete video on flushing a coolant system. All you did or showed was draining the radiator and adding a gallon of new anti freeze. This is not properly flushing a coolant system. Thumbs down on this one..

The title doesn’t say it’s a flush. It’s just a drain and fill. He even says what he’s doing at the beginning.

Dexcool is not garbage if you change it often before pH drops to acidic levels.
