Wow you’ve re lit my passion for soft pastels. I have hundreds of pastels but not the space now to lay them out; I’m going to invest in some pan pastels. I’ve always felt more confident using pastels rather than paint so much. Your art is so so beautiful! 🌸

Thank you! Incredible channel. I have been thinking of ways to make a sort of paint-by-numbers for base layers for portraits because that’s the part I usually end up adding way too many layers for my paper type/not using enough creative colors. I’ll be signing up for your Patreon once my current subs are up!
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt 4 жыл бұрын
Thankyou 😊 I'd love to see you over on Patreon when your ready! I've never really done a "paint by number" reference but you may be able to use photoshop or an online photo editer to do that? I might actually look into that because it could be a helpful tool to give my Patrons actually! 😊

That skin texture looks so realistic! It makes me want to step up my painting game. I frequently find myself using blue for shadows, particularly on Caucasian people. I have a feeling this is because the skin is so thin in these people that the veins show, thus the blueness.

This is absolutely amazing! I have recently tried getting into pastels with Rembrandt soft pastels,l, and I have been watching your tutorials to see what is possible with pastels😊. I mostly want to get into pastel portraits as I am a graphite portrait artist, but I got overwhelmed when you showed all the color matches you did in the paint program😅, so what would you recommend for someone like me who has done portraits before but is trying to adjust to pastels and want to do portraits with soft pastels in the future?😊
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt 4 жыл бұрын
Honestly it's just practice! The colour swatches may look overwhelming but they're really useful if you're stuck on what colour to use in that area! That would probably be my main advice, to do yourself some colour swatches from your reference 😊 You can just focus on one area at a time and look at the colour that matches from your swatches

Wonderful video. I have a difficult time seeing all those delicate demarcations in a photo and in some cases, can barely see any at all depending on the lighting etc. Darkening a photo in black and white helps some, but it's still tricky. You do this perfectly!!

How do you get the colours on so smoothly I use clairefontain pastelmat and I use pan pastels like you are but I try using colourless pan pastel before
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt 3 жыл бұрын
The colours become smoother by blending in between layers and also adding multiple layers of Pan Pastel (If you watch any of my pastel videos, you can see the process involved!) I haven't used the colourless Pan Pastel before, so I don't know much about it!

I'd love to get some pans for skin tones. To start out, what basic colors do you recommend? I realize it entirely depends on the skin tone, but just to get going?
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, every portrait I have done so far has completely different colours so I wouldn't recommend "skin colours" because there isn't such a thing I would recommend getting the pure/painting set of pans (they have a set of 5, 10 , or 20 - whichever you can afford) and mix your colours from there That way you can mix any colour you could imagine, and you're not missing any colours (unlike with the "portrait" or "skin tone" sets where you can't mix a wide variety of colours) This tutorial might be helpful you kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ptKhkrWm2Z7NhmQ.html Sorry that's probably not what you wanted to hear haha
