Thank you! Your video covered the most important (and interesting) facts. You helped me save $150 today! The job lasted about 10 minutes, and that because the first auger broke and then I had to drill more holes to take the broken piece out.

Thanks. It worked for me after a little bit of effort - the smithereens did tend to jam the lock but were easily removed with a hoover and a little more drilling.

I found a neat way to bypass hardened pins,drill at the bottom end of plug below pins.The bar will fall out and turn cam with thin screwdriver.

Great video, thanks! My boss's mother lost the key for her uPVC back door this afternoon, it took 10 minutes to drill it out using your method, and that includes the 7 minutes it took to watch it! :)

Mark a "stop''' on the drill bit. I measured a key like the one the lock is missing from it's shoulder to where the last point the key would meet a pin. Not as far as it's tip! 2 1/2 Cm was measured in this case.I will then take a piece of some kind of tape and wrap it around the drill bit at the same distance which was measured on the key.

Best way to get the lock moving after drilling the pins is to use some lubricating spray, ie WD40.

Dam that looked dangerous, when it’s in an door the metal bits will fall into the key way so I put a small bit of tape over the key way until finished drilling

You are demonstrating with the lock in your pliers/hands. This is SO far away from a "real world" situation, that what you do will rarely work, or will you pick the whole door up and tap it to drop the hardened pins out? Such holes as you drill can cause far more trouble than they are worth, don't do it. I have worked in this industry some years ago now, and I quickly found out that in such situations, a battery Dremel type tool and a specially hardened milling bit (I have had two of them for years, no damage from any hardened pins, but expensive!) , you can cut/mill upwards from the key hole and release all the pins and springs and they just drop out, or can be picked out with a pair of thin pliers or tweezers, without needing to "tap" the lock on a bench! No need to pick up the door!! Also, the hole you drilled is simply too small and may a) break the thin drill that then may take hours to remove, or b) simply cause a pin to jam and you cannot drill further. A larger hole will be harder to drill, but may save you from such problems as the drill will be less likely to break and far less likely to cause a jammed pin. The method is full of possible pitfalls.... Even HS drills do not like sudden jamming on a hardened pin, so drill slow, set torque to just enough to cut the hole on the electric drill. That might save the drill from breaking. Furthermore, from the outside, you probably will not know just how many sets of pins are in the lock, UNLESS you remember to use a lock pick to count them first!!! A simple but important task. Which should be the first job anyway, as trying to pick the lock, leaving it whole, in the case where the key has simply been misplaced, or its part of an expensive locking system in a building and less possibility to cause further damage, like filings or parts jamming the lock system..... So even if its truly un-pickable, you at least know how many pins are needed to be cut out..... Here is a video of an amateur with a Dremel type tool, opening a big padlock, but the principle is the same as I mentioned above, but do wear goggles as the pins and springs can fly out REALLY fast and can hurt:- kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q55moNSGnKrWdJs.html If it had been a door cylinder, it would have been upside down to the video and the pieces come out even better with the aid of some gravity!! Also, even if you damage the connection to the "lug" (or whatever its called in English!), removal of the rest of the lock is simple with long nose pliers/tweezers and with that special cheap plastic "key" (you know the one I mean I would hope!!), the lock can be opened easily. I've done it hundreds of times....and all the tools needed are really cheap and obtainable from a DIY market. There are also special Locksmith's tools, that can break some locks in the middle, where they are weak because of the screw hole, this removes the whole front half of the lock completely. Therefore the removal situation is the same....but with those same cheap tools, easily handled. See this video, even though some aspects are wrong, you can see how easy a lock can be snapped with ordinary tools:- kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aNKqi5ikuLrGmZs.html But I still prefer the "milling" method, fast and easy. Try it out, you will be really and pleasantly surprised.

can you still drill through high security euro barrels like this? or will the drill bits fail or just take longer and end up using more? like a yale one that doesn't snap with my grips? had one today and i just damaged the door mechanism trying to snap it would you recommend trying to drill it next time ? thanks

If you drill a 6mm hole a few mm below the shear line the pins will drop out .Drilling on the shear line you risk breaking your drill bit and jamming the lock with burrs.
@plumbteam

Sebastian Hibbert I agree with opcentre. If you drill slightly lower you will be drilling straight down the shear line. You will frequently have to drill only once. Of course you can't argue with results, and you have obtained the desired result. You can see this to be true if once you drill and turn the cylinder you pull the cylinder out and see exactly where your drill bit went. If it went straight down the shear line you drilled in the correct spot. I suspect you are drilling directly above the shear line. When I drill locks (not often) I use a 1/8" bit and it usually only takes sixty seconds.
@stephenperkins9877
@stephenperkins9877 Жыл бұрын
@@bjorncmadsen yes I agree with Opcentre as well, a 12mm hole with the top edge of the bit touching the cylinder circle, not overlapping it like in this video, using a larger (12mm) bit and rodding it out a few times once cut through the pins will remove the pieces (harder if the key is at the bottom rather than the top) Iv done several hundred of these as part of my job. with the Euro cam lock, the simplest way is a Lock Snapper Bar and a Cylinder Gauge Cam Turner Spindle 'key' using these I can snap, remove, unlock and replace a cam euro or cam oval lock in under 4 minutes with out getting short of breath lol
