I’ll never forget being told I had to cut to 145, which was fine I certified at 145 despite normally filling the 152 spot. Back then we only hydration test once a year at the start of the season when we certified. And well I get there having cut all day, running in sweats, spitting in cups… and the coach goes “they don’t have a 45 but we got you an exhibition at 171” I skipped 152, 160, and went to 71. I’m just glad I didn’t get pinned lol. Coach knew I liked to wrestle up at practice but I was wayyyy out of my element. You might think my coach was terrible for that. He was a state champion for lane tech and we were 4 in state for our division… so I didn’t question him. I loved being told I was wrestling 152 or 160 before hand because I’d be eating chips, drinking Gatorade while everyone’s starving

On Monday before practice I was about 120. I needed to be at least 115 by wednesday to wrestle, but I had to make scratch weight, so I was trying to hit 113. At weigh ins on wednesday I was 111. I was exhausted and hungry, but goddamn it I made scratch weight and won my match.

i’m a jr in highschool and cut 8 pounds consistently my natural weight is 123-125 i usually cut to 115 or 116 because 113 weightless has a growth allowance. i feel like shit 😭

So I’m new to wrestling and I’m right now just doing my schools pre conditioning. So wouldn’t calories matter if you’re trying to lose weight? Or are you just trying to lose as much weight as possible and it doesn’t matter what it is

What Isaac's talking about is a short term and not very healthy type of weight cutting. If you have time to prepare (several weeks/months), and a specific weight class goal in mind, then don't do this. Instead track calories and eat in a slight (250-400) calorie deficit and lots of protein to minimize muscle loss. And of course stay hydrated.

Typically you just cut water weight and try and rehydrate after making scratch. Just hope they’re not starting with your weight class because they don’t always start from the bottom up

I like what the hydration Test did for wrestler safety. But my shake got botched 3 out of the 4 years I've wrestled like they almost never have the proper thing. To measure my height so i'm always getting an extra b m I💀
