This is one of the blessings of KZfaq. Just a simple video about a question I've always had but been too embarrassed to ask. I see persimmons in the grocery store (especially if I'm at an Asian store) but I've never known how to eat them. Now I feel comfortable buying one and trying it out. I understand they're particularly nutritious. :)

Wish I watched this before trying to eat an unripe persimmon. Thought I was having a bad allergic reaction based on how my mouth felt.

Thank you Margaret, known as persimmon in the states, as pérsimo in mexico but in spain they're known as caqui/kaki. And now I know there are two kinds, the astringent and the sweet, thank you for the COOL Share and greetings from Querétaro, Mexico. :)

I got a few of the type you called fuyu. my neighbor gave me them. They are mostly green. How long do they take to ripen off the tree? I'm glad you showed a type one as I would have cut one open and found it all green and inedible.

I was expecting to see lots of seeds. We must have a different variety here in South Carolina. Ours are much smaller, and packed full of seeds.

I thought i had bought the fuyu ones but got the other ones instead. I had not had a persimmon in over a year and was so excited that i bit in to one in the car. (was hard like the fuyu persimmon). It was awful and of course i didn't have anything in the car to wash my mouth out with.
