Just turned 68, Living in Central Florida and getting in over 200 miles a week. Ride with Seminal Cyclist cycling club and do my share of solo riding. I find after cycling for over 30 years I don't need to be the fastest or go the longest anymore but I can if I'm tempted. I love helping new riders get to the next level. 🚴‍♀💨

What an uplifting and informative discussion. Both Luis and his cycling sister appear to be such intelligent and personable individuals-easy to get along with. Thanks for taking such a classy but somehow still down to earth approach to this topic-classy bikes and cycling attire but an easygoing chat about aging. For me the challenge is recovering and I don’t go on long rides. But I’m definitely much older than you guys. Really appreciate the high standards Luis sets for this channel.

Turned 7? this year and ride every other day averaging maybe 15 miles each time, mostly flat, leafy suburban/small town roads and moderate climbs depending on the routes I take. I ride a Specialized Crossroads touring bike-love it. Has 21 gears. Never felt better riding a bike. Have no problems keeping up with and passing other cyclists riding similar bikes. But going fast has never been my goal. If there is a secret to my “success” it would be a life time of trying to stay fit-moderate strength training, walking, and eating a healthy diet.

Nice video Luis, I am turning 60 next birthday , my plans are pretty much the same. 60 mile ride on my bday is my personal goal. I have picked up a few injuries over the years, worst 1 was feb 2019 , fast crash and broke the ball off my femur. Long recovery, long rides can be tiresome as my good leg doesnt get tired! Maybe not the right thing to say , but I dont want to turn up to the pearly gates with a perfect body...........I want to turn up just like a old car with steam coming out from under the bonnet and smoke coming out the tail pipe. Well used and ready for scrapping! Enjoying your channel!

Hello, thanks for the great video! I started cycling at the age if 50 when we moved to the French Pyrenees in 2015. And since then I have cycled outdoors, through the seasons, 4 times a week. Fast forward 8 years to now and I am even more in love with cycling and the great outdoors. With regards to stamina, it has not dipped, the only change is that I have a deeper respect of the Tour de France mountain climbs that I ride weekly here on our doorstep. Cycling has given me a strong mind and self confidence and I hope to continue with good health and riding for many more years to come. Ride Safe, Debbie

Love riding again after about 20+ years of dormancy, due to getting hit by a car (hit and run). However😅, Florida riding might be too easy for us. In the Northeast, we get equal portions of hills and flats, plus an incredible mountain trail that I at times take on for shorter riding days. Bottom line my doctor loves that I ride. At 56 my blood pressure is great, my resting heart rate has gone down as low as 39 BPM and average about 49 beats per minute. Seeing older folks riding is inspiring to my wife and I. Thanks for always putting up useful and informative videos!

I’ve been my strongest and fastest above 55. I’ve had consistently maintained sprint power burst at +1500 watts through training on and off the bike. I found that core strength equals speed and endurance. I’ve also found that adding tools like hip flexors lift stroke adds speed and power while giving me options of muscle groups I can call on during hard efforts so I can briefly rest one group while switching back and forth. The plus 50 ride game can be strong with a good plan. Happy riding plus 50, and watch out youngsters because some old folk may have acquired many tools in their toolbox 😂❤

I absolutely loved this Video!! Very well put together. Had many thoughts run through my mind while viewing. #1 As KZfaqr: I enjoyed the storytelling aspect and hearing something genuine, which I find useful & interesting. #2 As a Cyclist I think about how long can I be on the bike. 🧐 I love my relationship with my Dad and we talk Bikes all the time! Earlier this year we completed our 1st Century and I was able to capture those moments and make a video from it. Dad is 62 & we were literally having a conversation today talking about what we’ll do over the winter to get ready for next season. Super excited about that 🙂 #3 As a Videography I want to capture some *Cycling Stories. I’ve been interested in interviewing people and I’ve put a few productions together so far but not related to cycling. I’ve got some ideas though and I’ll get something together for the Channel soon! 🎥😎 #RobbArmstrong

Yo Luis, enjoying your content as a man of colour in the UK, it is good to see you and your group ride with the diversity of people involved,at an age of 62 and mostly fixed and off road ,i am s lone wolf,not by choice but after been let down on meetings on several occasions,i can take a hint,so to save my shame,i ride alone, the not much presence of black folks on bikes,full stop,so it's good to see channel grow,and to see you leave the dark side (carbon) and into the light(steel), now you stay blessed and upright

This certainly is an interesting topic. Thanks for sharing it. If I can change the subject a little, I'd be interested to hear about cycling cadence. One thing I noticed in the video was that you never stopped pedaling. Even though your cadence was slow, you kept moving your legs. She coasted quite a bit. The cadence is one thing that I have been working on and I know that you've touched on it before, but in a "recreational" pace how does that work? Or is that just a habitual style of yours that just carries through your riding style. Anyway I thought it might make a good topic for a video. I know I'd be interested at 59. Thanks for what you do.

Hey Luis, I also am going to be 57 end of the year, and just started cycling 2021 MTB and more road cycling starting in 2022. I am enjoying the channel and all of the content is very helpful. Can you help me understand about cadence? Is it better to pedal at a higher cadence or lower cadence. Or does it depend on the individual. I usually am comfortable at 80-85, some guys are saying they are 90-95, and when i try that i feel bouncy and out of control on the bike. Maybe a word or two in on that please? Thanks again for what you are doing with your channel.
@thegoodwheel
@thegoodwheel 9 ай бұрын
Hi Jesse! Yeah, depending on the type of ride cadence can be a very personal thing. Riding solo at tempo I am usually around 90-95. When I am in a paceline or peloton where I want better control of freewheeling I drop it a bit to 85-90. If a cadence of 95 causes bouncing it could be a fit issue or how you sit on the saddle. Try moving forward on the saddle when you pick up your cadence and see if it helps.

Awesome 👏 cycling “ but I have to mention that Florida is flat flat flat, I see that your group rides a lot of people are just coasting a lot because it’s flat. If there were mountains or hills of good size you will be fitter, at any age. The mountains make you suffer more and make you stronger by far than riding flats all the time. However I know that it’s circumstantial because not everyone has the mountains and flats for training in their backyard.

Since age is a consideration in this conversation, at 57 yrs old I avg. 21.2mph for 126 miles and my heartrate never exceeded the low tempo zone. The down side is that the older body mentally thinks it can do what younger me has done many times. At 62 yrs , I crashed in a right hand 90* turn at plus *25mph. This had always been easy for me coming from a downhill ski racer background. I wasn’t even concerned but age and my reaction/body position timing was off. Maybe age affected… I don’t know, but placing my expectations into the perspective of my age has now become a part of my calculus. Just a thought to consider. J 😊
