Today was the day I finally got the time to Epoxy my cargo trailer in preparation for a camper conversion. The epoxy floor completely changed the trailer. Now I have a very durable, clean, professional floor that's very easy to maintain with whatever my family can throw at it.

Do you think that applying 1 coat to the floor and letting it dry. Then apply a second coat with the flakes letting it dry and then clear coat with anti skid abrasive. Good idea or overkill????

Great video! Would you advise filling in the screw dimples and plywood joints on the floor? I’m wondering if the epoxy filled them as you mentioned or if they showed through after the product hardened. Thanks

You can if you wanted, but due to the flakes you can barely see any imperfections (Screw holes, cracks, etc).

Thanks for the video. Two questions...#1 are the chips sharp on the feet after the epoxy dries? #2 - any idea if it would work to apply this over hardboard insulation and 1/2" subfloor in the trailer? Would it crack? Thx!
@watsonst04
@watsonst04 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! 1. The chips can be sharp. I did come back later and add a clear top coat (same brand) and it really made it better and shiner. Would recommend doing it as well. 2. Expoxy is pretty good at bonding to items. I'm thinking you wanting to insulated the floor, add the third subfloor layer utilizing 1/2" plywood on top....I wouldn't see a problem with that. Actually of I was to do this again that's what I would do as my next one is probably gonna be a tiny house version. Just be sure to fill in all the extra cracks or you may see them and sand the top layer.

The epoxy fills in the cracks and the tops of the screw heads pretty good when you apply the base "Grey". You will still barely see them though, but when I added the flake they just about disappeared. If your not doing flakes and want it super smooth I would fill the cracks with something.

Is this stuff suppose to be waterproof for wood floor ? Also how did it work for ramp ? Slip resistant enough ?
@watsonst04
@watsonst04 3 жыл бұрын
It would say it water proof for sure. It completely seals the floor from everything. The ramp seems fine and had no problems. If you wanted the kit includes "sand" you can mix it to make it more slip resistant.

For the clear coat on top of the epoxy it comes with grit like silicon you sprinkle over as it's incredibly slippery if you don't use it

FYI, RustOleum does not recommend 2 part epoxy on a wooden substrate as any hard object falling on it will dent and breech the surface. Kind of the same reason you don't put laminate on plywood, but rather dense particle board. Also, pay attention to the temperature requirements. It must be warm to harden.

So far I haven't had a single issue. I sanded the entire floor to give it a good grip and did the clear coat on top. Yes I followed the temps when I did it and let it cure for a week before I even touched it.

How about tire marks from coming in and out. My trailers for four wheelers
@watsonst04
@watsonst04 3 жыл бұрын
Well I've only put 2 cars in mine. I bet if the tires are warm they would eventually leave "hot tire" marks on them. I'm gonna install "E Tracks" on the floor; therefore I shouldn't get a lot of markings as the tires will roll on them for the most part. I think as long as you cleaned the floors like your should and not do dead stop turning of the wheels, you probably won't get any marks. At the end of the day this trailer was designed to be used, so if I get some marks, it's fine.
