This week on Surviving the First Lap, we will talk about the Protest system inside iRacing. I will guide you through the process regarding how to use the system. We will also discuss the importance of using the system along with expectations after filing a protest.

Iiterally the first seconds of the video. I know i didn't "save a replay" ugh., Ive been member for a couple months and this is the first incident that was so aggregious that it would be a sin to NOT report it. This guy was using his vehicle as a weapon on track to get back and ruin races. Truly a terror to deal with. I do appreciate this video. I had been lax on watching how exactly to do it. Cause its just not my style. But this is something else entirely.

My annoyance is that my safety rating takes a hit, 4x, when I got torpedoed in one of my first races, and that I can't get that back. Didn't seem fair to me, but anyway. Still loving the game, just need to stay away from other racers in the rookie ranks it seems. The rate I'm going, I'll never get out of it. Cheers for the info.

This is the biggest drawback for iRacing. The "no fault" system is more like an "everyone's fault" system. It can be and still is super frustrating as even filing a protest does not gain the innocent driver anything in the long run. The hope is if everyone will protest a lousy driver, we will eventually see him leave the community. I've had too many races to count that end poorly because of a late lap punt, dump or dooring that sends my car careening off the track. Hang in there and good luck!

As soon as the race begins I pull off to the side and let people pass, 9 times out of 10 there is a wreck on the first lap and I don’t want to be apart of it.

If i lost SR without fault Sending the protest, they give me back de sr i lost?

Unfortunately, no. You do not get anything back. However, it is still important to file the protest in order to let iRacing determine if this is a one/two time event or a consistent pattern of behavior. I know it's a pain, but the community as a whole should file when needed.

The problem I have it that in order to be motivated to go through this process, the offender needs do have done something really bad. I wish it was easier.

incident free practice and qualifying just to be throws around like a rag doll and lose 3x worth of everyone else’s rating. just makes you wanna do anything BUT. rage included

Damn... I wish I would have known about saving the video clip. Guy clearly came down on me inside a turn because I was going to pass him, spinning me out and then into another driver. He ends up in second - I end up in 6th. This crap is annoying.

I'm watching this because I'm filing my first protest ever and I've been on iracing for years off and on. I started a more "serious" approach, coming from "270 degree wheel desk racer" a couple of years ago. I'm going to report anything that violates the sporting code from now on, not just "they'd have to do something absolutely horrible" type incidents. Those drivers need to be culled from the herd either by taking a warning or suspension to heart and bringing their racecraft up to par, or by being banned from participating all together. We all need to do our part to make sure we keep the clowns off the track, as it was put in this video. And I for one am done with the attitude that if they're as bad as they seem to me, they'll get reported by others. 🤬🤦‍♂🤷‍♂

I completely agree with your thoughts and comments. The protest system should be used for this exact purpose. There is no way for us to know if this was a one time whoops or the driver has a history of whoopies every single race, but iRacing knows if the community files the protest when needed. If more drivers would take the time to file a protest, it would make the official server races much better overall until a better system is in place. Personally, I became so frustrated that I stopped racing on the official servers for the most part and that is terrible. It is unfortunate.

I don't even like doing this because it's generally a waste of time for something that shouldn't have happened. I don't even care that much about racing incidents but a lot of the stuff I've seen isn't even remotely racing and people dive bomb 24/7 like this is an arcade racer.

Yes, it is super frustrating and time consuming. If more people will do it, when required, it will help all of us out and get rid of the arcade drivers.

And if they miss the mark they just use you as there braking system and get paid off for it. iRacing is actually just straight out shit because of this. Especially at lower level races.

Always save the replay if something is remotely questionable.

wat a joke....Intentionally wreck a driver and they lose 98 Irating and 45 safety, they go on to race and you lose those points... i race both, Iracing and Asste Corrso and this is why6 they will take over iracing as the top driving game within 2- years..Iracing is only interested in one thing and that's to take your money

And this is one of my biggest problems with iRacing. ACC has a comprehensive driver rating system that is much, much better than iRacing. However, I do not think iRacing will be knocked off the throne just yet. iRacing offers the largest variation of racing and custom paints/liveries (via Trading Paints) is the cherry on top for a lot of people. I do think the sim racing community needs a viable competitor to iRacing. Sorry for your frustration on the official servers.
