This video will break down exactly how easy it is to file your quarterly IFTA report online. Only things you'll need are your mileage and fuel purchase summaries and about 20 minutes of spare time.

Depends on the state you live in. Basically just want to go through your state commercial carrier website and look for a link to e-file your ifta. It’s all state specific.

Hi, My ELD mileage report is different from the mileage report that I got from an ifta-calculator by a 1,000+ miles. Which one is more reliable? Thanks

Totally non-IFTA related.. Two questions.. What do you use for recording on your laptop? What mic you use (such as in this video) IFTA-related: What denotes requiring to file IFTA (as a hot-shotter)?

I use a program called Bandicam to record the screen and just used the voice recorder on my iPhone for the audio. Anybody registered over 26k will need a CDL, apportioned plates and IFTA. They all go hand in hand.

good evening, I can truly appreciate your direct simple approach for teaching upon ITFA reporting. I wish to ask you a question with the lease purchase truck I have. The company gave me a fuel card but was dipping into my settlement each week with no cut off with the fuel deductions so I up tanned my own fuel card. now, they haven't said anything about the fuel purchases but what about the reporting of fuel. Do I just not concern myself with it or do I register with my state IFTA , and If so, the truck has a present IFTA sticker on it so I just lease the truck but now pay for my own fuel. Please advise

It depends on whose name the ifta account is registered to. If it’s the company you’re leased on to, then you’ll just need to share your fuel transactions with the company. Gallons and state is all they need. 👍

I use a NASTC fuel card at the pump and I print out my reciet to up load on my eld. So my eld shows what state I fuel in with the odometer, gallons, and price. Do I put the pump price or the price I paid with the discount on the ifta tax form?

hi question my ifta on hold some reason, can’t process payment do you hear anything about that ?

If you haven’t registered for 2021 already then your account will be inactive. You’ll need to reactivate it first. It should be free.

I don’t know if the whole covid thing has extended any grace periods but normally you have a 2 month grace period as long as your old IFTA license AND decals are on the truck AND you have the printed license registration for 2021. So hopefully they come in soon. Mine just arrived January 30th.

So you’re saying you pay IFTA off your miles you drive around in a state and not base on the gallons you buy in that state? So if I fill up in Alabama and use it all in MS then go back and fill up AL, my IFTA is paid based on the mileage in MS not fuel bought in AL

It’s based off of your overall miles per gallon and applied to each state. So if you buy all of your fuel in AL and none in MS, you’ll have a tax credit of the fuel you didn’t use in AL but be charged tax in MS for driving there but not buying fuel there.

Can I get my own IFTA license while I don’t have my own usdot number. I’m an owner operator and buy my own fuel

Yes, you’ll need your own plates too though. They’ll all be registered to you or your company, whoever you have listed on your lease agreement. You’ll just list the carrier you’re leased on to as the “carrier responsible for safety” section of your apportioned registration. Other than that it’ll all be in your name.

You only report one of the month or you have to report all 3 month of every quarter when doing the ifta reporting at the time ?

How would you know how many gallons use on that state versus the miles you run how you figuring it out.

As far as I know all state websites will calculate it for you but the way it figures it out is to take all miles driven divided by gallons purchased for the quarter and it will give you an overall MPG. Then the mpg is applied to the miles driven in each state to calculate how many gallons of fuel you burned in each state 👍

It used to be but now you just pull a mileage report from your ELD. It tracks it for you.

You can use your truck GPS , automatically log each state miles you drive through. Make sure GPS set up for it.

You’ll just file at the end of the first quarter you start in. What sucks though is IRP. since you have no miles you have to pay the “national average of miles in each state/district. They even had mileage driven in Canadian provinces on my initial registration. It’s BS. Then again the entire idea behind IRP and IFTA is also BS so there’s that.

Not really you’ll just pull your reports from each card and add your state gallons together.

If you run over 26k pounds you’ll have to get an apportioned plate and register with the IRP part of that registration is registering with IFTA. You file quarterly.

I use an EFS card for discounts but a lot of times I can save by just buying fuel with my business card at smaller cheap fuel stops. Costco is a great option if you have one near you.

Just state and gallons. The tax rate is all that is applied on filing and its based on each states tax

Depends on how you ran that quarter. It factors total mileage by total gallons purchased then applies that mpg to each state you drove in. If you drove more miles in a state than the fuel you bought in that state, you pay the tax difference for that state. If you drove less miles than gallons purchased you get a credit. Each state has their own tax rate and it varies a ton. For 1 truck though it should rarely ever be over $100. If you play the math right you’ll actually get a refund each quarter.
