In this video I will show you how to fill or patch small cracks in acrylic rendered walls so they won't be seen when painted. One of the biggest issues is to only fill the crack and not the surrounding render.

Hi, love the videos. Thanks for taking the time and showing us all professional tips that you have developed over the years. I only found your channel recently and the videos have been so much help as we prepare to paint our house. I have a question I hope you can answer. I'm painting previously painted trims, I have done the metho test to see if water based or oil based and it seems some rooms are oil and others are water based. Should I just go over them all with a primer and then paint with water based or just paint everything with oil based? I was trying to avoid the oil based paint as we have a couple of young kids and didn't want them sleeping in their room while the oil based is going off. Thanks
@howtopaintinfo
@howtopaintinfo 3 жыл бұрын
You could give it all a good sand specially the oil based paint then use a acrylic sealer primer undercoat. From there you will still have the option of using either water or oil based top coats. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

Your videos are so helpful! Just 1 question: How can I tell if my render is acrylic or cement? Just so I buy the right caulking. If it helps, it's a townhouse circa 1998 in inner north Melbourne, render over blueboard.
@howtopaintinfo
@howtopaintinfo 2 жыл бұрын
Render over blue board would be acrylic render, it wouldn't really matter if it was cement render as the caulking sealant will work on both type's. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

Great tip, thanks. Question; I have scratch poly render on the external walls here in Townsville. The cracks follow the the besser blocks down the wall in the step pattern. (17 year old house) Do I repair them the same way you have shown? And are you using a product like no more gaps?
@howtopaintinfo
@howtopaintinfo 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can fill them the same way and the product I'm using is a Polyfilla S20, its a little bit thicker and better for larger cracks as it's not so runny. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

@howtopaintinfo

Monarch seem to be good brushes but they may not last as long as some of the other brands. Rota Cota Excel 2 are good brushes but I think they are no longer available. Purdy are all so good and I'm sure there are others out there that are just as good.. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

awesome, I have a complete hebel wall house, only 4 years old. Water is causing blistering along and expansion joint. About 10-25mm blistering. No sign of water, but think that water is entering from the roof onto the top edge of the hebel panel, soaking and seeping down the sheet along the expansion joint. Can I use this acrylic sealant/filler after chipping out the blistered area, filling with sealant and then coating with Acra tex Acra skin? thanks
@howtopaintinfo
@howtopaintinfo 2 жыл бұрын
I think you would be better off using render wall or some other texture first and build up the area so you can patch the texture finish. It does depend on how big the bubbles are and how much damage you do when removing them. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

An expansion joint should be filled with a polyurethane filler, it will expand more than the average gap filler will. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

I noticed you're using a different technique here Vs your other video with cement wall. Which way should I use for a cement wall?
@howtopaintinfo
@howtopaintinfo 3 жыл бұрын
It will depend on how rough or smooth the surface is, for smoother surfaces you can use the scraper to remove the excess filler and for a rougher surface you will need to be a bit more carful not to apply too much filler and use the water brush method. I hope that helps. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

Can I use a Polyurethane Waterproof Concrete Sealant, and would it be paintable?

You could but it will not clean off easy, you would most likely end up with a big mess on the wall. Water based sealants wipe off easily. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

Couldn’t you just let it dry and then sand it down?
@howtopaintinfo
@howtopaintinfo 3 жыл бұрын
Acrylic sealant doesn't sand down and even if it did you would still notice a line because you will fill some of the texture of the render. You need to remove as much of the excess filler so it doesn't stand out. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
