I've recently started studying up on burbot fishing here in the Milwaukee area, I think I'm going to give it a try this year finally. I started looking at the videos last Winter but never got around to getting out and freezing my butt off lol Thank you for posting this video, it's very informative about the fileting process. Keep up the great work! And go packers!

I'm not much of an ice fisherman but spent 4 days in Minnesota fishing this winter with a good friend. Had a tough time catching walleye, but at night we just caught burbot after burbot. Meat is delicious but pan fried burbot liver is sensational. I thought my buddy was messing with me when he first cooked it, certainly didn't look that appetizing until it was cooked but they actually do have the texture of a scallop as people seem to say. Really delicious.

That is so cool! What did he use for breading?

@@calebwistad it was pretty basic same as the fish just flour and cornmeal with salt and pepper we were on the water so didn't have a ton of ingredients to work with. Lightly breaded since they were pretty small pieces and just onto a frying pan. Didn't take long at all just kind of shuffled them around to try and get every side and a few minutes later you're eating. I live in southeast Florida and eat fish all the time. I'm very partial to eating saltwater fish in general but darn pout liver is delicious.

Dude I love Florida. What part do you fish? I’ve been fishing the Sanibel/captiva/fort Meyers area for about 12 years now and I have caught everything from snook and reds to amberjack and grouper. They are all so good!

@@calebwistad great fishing over there in the Gulf I have fished out of Sanibel many, many times and all over the gulf. If you want to catch fish off structure the gulf is paradise. I'm basically across the state, although it's really not that far, on the eastern coast. I live in Pompano beach, between Ft. Lauderdale and Boca.

You've done this before, I appreciate seeing someone that knows how to do it the most efficient way. Watched an Alaskan Game and Fish biologist method that was more like a lab dissection and added many unnecessary steps. The whole secret I found with burbot (ling in Wyoming) is to never open the gut cavity. p.s. the cheeks are exceptional on larger ones.

@@calebwistad I've eaten it and it's amazing. Just never caught one. We have some lakes around here with some hogs. Just gotta dial in on em. From what I understand fishing for burbot is like fishing for Walleye which I'm very experienced with.

Not sure if it makes any difference but I cut the skin all the way around the fish behind the head and take my pliers and pull it off in one piece and then fillet the fish from there. Never thought there was any belly meat on these before! Thanks for that tip!!
@calebwistad
@calebwistad 3 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen guys do that too and it works great! I just like to leave some of that fatty stuff on the skin which doesn’t work if you pull it off. I am working on a video right now for the recipe I use for the bellies!

Jak filtrować miętusa? Filetowanie miętusa jest całkowicie nieekonomiczne. Każdy kawałek miętusa, a szczególnie wątróbka i skóra jest bardzo smaczny. Ja miętusa wycieram grubą solą, patroszę zachowując wątróbkę, i ewentualnie ikrę. Wątróbkę wrzucam w mąkę kukurydzianą, wymieszaną z solą i pieprzem.
