Agreed - it only makes sense to switch roles if you feel that your current role isn’t a place where you can stay long term. It’s easier when you’re a student because you can do internships and join clubs to get different experiences.

Hey James! Great question, I did eventually learn how to model proficiently through a combination of self studying and also learning on the job. The technicals can feel intimidating at first but they aren’t rocket science and anyone who puts in the work can get the hang of them. I’d also be wary of your peers who put “financial modeling” on their final uni apps - many students tend to exaggerate the extent of their experience and in my experience investment banks don’t often give interns access to the model on a live deal (often times it’ll be a simpler practice model). For technical prep just start with the Breaking Into Wall Street guide and if you want to learn modeling I recommend sites like Multiple Expansion, 10xEBITDA, and Peak Frameworks. Hope this helps!

Hey Hyphen! I think the best thing you can to beyond courses is to try and get some actual internship experience that is related to consulting (even if just tangentially). Work experience is always viewed more favorably than certifications or courses in consulting.
