@@lifeofbonsai it’s a shame, perhaps you could ask them if you can chop them and do half the roots on site before you take them. Don’t ask you don’t get, right !! 🤷♂️ Bet the biggest ones are well pricy though 😂😂 👊👊👊👊

There is a local botanical garden where volunteers leave different assorted plants, trees, or shrubs. Small pots are $2, med are $3, and large are $6. I got a baby white swamp oak for $6!!!!! In about 2 years I'm going to air layer it, cut the trunk down, and have 2 white swamp oak bonsais.

That is definitely a steal of a deal. It's always nice when you get multiple trees of just one. Plus swamp oaks are amazing trees. Good luck

I gave up on two of my three boxwoods. The random dieback just ruins the bonsai design and boxwoods grow so slow it’s a lot of time and effort invested. I see even in this video there’s dieback on some of the boxwoods. I have been doing some reading here and there and there’s a theory that it’s a fungus that causes/contributes to the random dieback. I definitely think overwatering is a factor, even if you think you are not overwatering. If my last tree gets dieback I’m out of the boxwood business.

Ahh yes i have had some boxwoods die on me. What i noticed that has helped so much with the 2 i have is potting then i bonsai soil. It really helps with drainage , but with the old soil i had the others in i would think i was watering when needed and they would still get root rot, they are not easy tbh
