We don't have Akadama in my country. I am using Zeolite and broken red bricks Grit and broken pomice and perlite and Pine bark and lava rock. Is this mixture ok ?
@lifeofbonsai7 сағат бұрын
That is a really good mixture . Good water retention

22 years ago I bought a pot with a number of ficus benjamina whips inside. I tied them tightly together with twine and the whips fused, eventually resulting in a massive trunk. I suspect this technique works best with any ficus variety. I have seen deciduous trees do this in nature so I would not be surprised that it would work with them as well.
@lifeofbonsai8 сағат бұрын
Yesss that is amazing . Currently looking for as many as possible ficus of the same variety and try to fuse them. But you are right ficus work best, saw an amazing trident maple fused with lots and lots of seedlings i think conifers won't work however or maybe evergreens will have to test

Quick question! Yesterday I checked the bark on my tree and it is very bright green (so I know it’s alive)! However, I’m not sure if it was under watering or the leaving inside (I have a small Juniper Bonsai), the outer and some inner part of the tree’s leaves began to turn yellow. Most of the inner part of the tree is still a goodish green, is there anything I can do for it to get back to all green? I’m slowly pruning any dead leafs and yellow bits that clearly don’t have hope. I’m aware that it’s detrimental to prune too much though so I know that much 👍🏽 (Note: I will have a picture of my bonsai tree as my profile picture)
@lifeofbonsai2 күн бұрын
So green under the bark is a good sign . Here is what i would do. First checm your watering , make sure to only water when it needs to be watered . I would bring it outside but in shade, don't let the sun hit it, and jst keep trimming the brown tips. Now here is something i do have to say, junipers tend to die from the tips down but jst keep trying , outside on shade and water only when it needs to be
@Jacob07822 күн бұрын
@@lifeofbonsai should I bring it inside once it’s night? It’s usually 50 or les degrees at night where I’m at, not sure if that’s good for the bonsai or not.. Also when pruning/ trimming, where do I know where to cut exactly?
@lifeofbonsaiКүн бұрын
@@Jacob0782 no keep it outside regardless jst make sure it does not get direct sunlight, and you want to trim jst right at the edge were browning starts

Great advice with this video , I lost a beautiful maple I had airlayerd , I cut the airlayer from the mother in summer and I lost both plants , I was gutted , I know now my mistake , I do a lot of planting and potting in winter it seems to work better for me. Pruning when the weather is not hot makes a lot of sense to.
@lifeofbonsai3 күн бұрын
Yess it's sad. Same happened with a trident maple i did lost the whole tree..but the thing is that we learn what works best for our climate . That is correct , heat does stress the roots alot
@footbollpro4 күн бұрын
Whats the coldest weather they can handle. I live in Sweden and winters are -20°
@lifeofbonsai4 күн бұрын
It could handle it but you should protect it. Bury the pot in the ground , or keep the pot well covered with leafs or in a garage that is non heated to protect from cold breeze
