With so many choices, how can today’s graduates decide which path to take? Amba Brown discusses a new approach for navigating a happy life after school. Amba Brown is an Australian author, who holds a degree in psychology & sociology, with Honours in Positive Psychology. She is 31 years old, from Sydney, Australia, and has also lived in Asia and America. Her previous experience includes Psychological Investigations and employment at The Australian High Commission in Singapore before working as a full time author. Being the eldest of six siblings, Amba is passionate about alleviating youth anxieties. This passion resulted in the creation of the 'Finding Your Path’ book series, to support and inspire youth through their major life transitions; starting school, starting high school and finishing school. Aside from writing, Amba loves travelling, beach days and spending time with friends. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

not only that, high school doesn't even set you up for the real world. if you ask people who just graduated with me I 100% will tell you that 3 out of 4 people don't know how taxes work, or how to even get a loan. its so sad that they are so worried about you knowing ur history and science and stuff lol
@Remington-wl7jp
@Remington-wl7jp 3 жыл бұрын
And truth be told they aren't even truly focused on the history and science part. Alot of public school graduates couldn't tell you anything about history besides slavery and MAYBE the revolutionary war. As much as the image of the "school is bad" rebellious teen has become a cliche, it really is the reality for most people that their education completely failed them.

Instead of telling and forcing children to choose the pre-decided paths, we should focus their problem-solving capabilities, we shoud teach them how to stand-up when they fall and teach them to keep trying and keep experiencing until they are successfull.We should teach them to create and innovate their roads and get inspired from those who did it with great success as well as with great failures.

That part "No matter what age, we are all finding our path" brought me to tears. I am 30 years old and I have finally gotten my GED after so many attempts back when I was still being young and wild. It took me 3 months to finish. I am now trying to see what it is I am good at and what I want to do. I have thought of accounting but I mostly love working with housing so thought of finishing carpentry. It's been a task but I know the Lord will guide me to what He has for me.

That's why you should always have a backup plan. Do the best you can to have the all the resources you need to follow your ambitions, but have a backup plan that will make you not as happy as plan A, but still happy. And from plan B, find a way that could maybe bring you to plan A later on in life. And most importantly, always make the most out of whatever you have. Just because things didn't go as you expected or wanted does not mean you cannot be happy and satisfied.

After high school, I bought somethings that was going to be a career, it wasn’t something I always wanted to do or even a dream. While I was in quarantine I finally found something I was passionate and willing to create, but I had to go to the expensive career that I wasted in and today I failed and I’m about to have an argument with two people who I love about my failure. This video was helpful and honestly I which I took a job after I left high school and during it I would write and create movies that I was passionate to make.

I cried when she said not to pursue my interest out of fear of failure. It tapped that nerve in me so hard. 😭 I fear, I do fear a lot about my decisions. I fear what if I fail, I get lost, I become unemployed, my parents wouldn't support me😭. I really really want to give myself one chance of pursuing a degree in literature and languages. But I often wonder if I would be able to carve a future out of it. I am from India, so according to the education system here, I m in my final year of High school getting a degree in Business and accountancy, I have no idea why I am doing this degree. I took it because my parents insisted and didn't let me do my further studies in humanities /arts. What if there is literally no scope in arts? What if I waste all my parents money and my precious golden years in a degree which doesn't guarantee me a job? I just don't know😭 . God help me, I want to be so fearless, so badly!!! I want to get rid of this fear. I, for once, just want to study what I love at this moment of time and see if I make smt outta it 😭 I want to be confident in my decision 😭 I want to be happy. I am still sobbing while typing this all. I just can't be like this, directionless, hopeless, fearful, anxious, I don't want to be this 😭 help me Give me strength! In March 2025 , I will take my boards exam and will be outta high school. God, I seek help😭

2023 anyone? School has traumatized me and millions of other people... The school system has forced us to be quiet and not think for ourselves. As if we are mindless machines. As if we don't have a voice. When we get to high school, we have more freedom than what we have been allowed to have for years. What will a mindless machine do with that knowledge? Just keep with the program... I, and I'm sure others, are still trying to get over that trauma and try to stand up for ourselves. I could rant more, but I'm sure that I made my point clear to some. I, and other people are fed up with this school system. It's more of a jail, making kids into mindless servants scared to speak up. The reason that I told you this is that people should speak out against this generational torturer, the cycle will not stop until someone speaks out. Even if you don't believe it, consider how it is affecting children now. The best advice I have for everyone is to do your own research.

I believe we need to get our youth the information they need to gain the confidence they need to make good career choices. This puts them in the driver's seat for their careers instead of hanging around waiting for someone to "tell" them what to do. Instead of forcing students in a corner to commit to something or else, we should be more concerned about getting young adults to choose a direction, e.g., Education, Manufacturing, Design, Finance, Consumer Relations, etc... Make sense?

No. Don't because having a high school diploma can get you a better job even without college. It's not worth it dropping out.

High school is worth it.. u should make friends.. I know it’s hard but look I’m here with diploma with no friends. Only 4 bestfriend from my childhood.. but if I wish I do it again was to make friends.. it’s hard but you have to step out of your comfort zone..
