A U.S. Marine Corps Instructor from 2nd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion (2nd LAAD) explains how to fire an FIM-92 Stinger missile. Members of the 2nd LAAD fire Stinger missiles at drone targets during training at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona. 2nd LAAD uses Stinger surface-to-air missiles to provide close-in, low altitude air defense against enemy aircraft. The FIM-92 Stinger is an infrared homing surface-to-air missile (SAM), Man-Portable Air-Defense System (MANPADS). Filmed on March 27-28, 2015.

Monokuma - it’s been upgraded since then, same for the Igla and the Chinese/Iranian copies of the Igla. Most of the Stingers in Afghanistan are used as ‘bling’ by armed groups, as they are very expensive, not so effective against modern NATO aircraft, and the thermal batteries that stingers need are long dead (replacements are very very difficult to obtain, for obvious reasons).

@@deliriumbee4678 How didn't it age well? The Ukrainian people are LITERALLY "protecting their homes from muscovite aviation" with Stingers as I type this. I'd say his comment actually aged like a fine wine. As a matter of fact, just yesterday there was an incredible video taken from a civilian drone that showed the Ukrainian shoot down of a Russian Hind using what was almost certainly a Stinger missile.

Changing the propellant chemistry is what did the trick. Thank the propellant chemists for that; you may want to read John D. Clark's book, "Ignition" for an idea of the complexity in coming up with rocket propulsion fuels. While Stingers and Javelins are solid fuel rockets, ICBMs and many other military missiles are liquid-fueled, using an amazing range of chemicals you don't want to mess with!

Just Steve. I said OK. Nice to meet you Steve. Gave him an Oreo cookie as a treat. Gave him a nice place to sleep at night too. Be nice to your attachments. Makes things flow better. Briefed my CO we had Steve as an AA asset. Questions and then laughter followed. Steve became a bit of a celebrity with his first name basis vibe. Good guy. Miss ya buddy. 💘

I was a Redd Eye/Stinger operator in the m 2 25 22id 80s. I THINK That the one shown is different than what I operated. It seems like I had to open up that cage, like it was of use in the sighting of the missel. It also seemed to hunt the target rather than the straight to the target the pic shows. We had a jeep and a 1/4ton trailer, with, either 2 to a casket, or 4 caskets with one in each hermetically sealed, so we were told. This is the first time I have looked this up. 2 25 22

I’m surprised to see detailed info like this (on the actual launching procedure) out in the open too. I mean John Q. Jay Bartgis very good comment, and how about the piss poor Iraqi soldiers we gave all of the up armored Humvees, , self-propelled artillery, Abrams tanks, and so much money in training & Americans lives just to finally hand over everything to the Iraqis so they can fight their own war and they crumble to a relatively small fighting force of ISIS soldiers that we're armed with RPG's and heavy machine guns mounted in the back of civilian trucks as the heaviest weapons and the Iraqis crumble and without so much as a fight? The Iraqis had not even dug in and prepared to fight an enemy? I believe a company of 80 US troops could have defeated that ISIS attack without any air support!! When I see that convoy 2 miles long e all that American weaponry
