Trout can be fickle fish at times. Sometimes the best way to get a trout bite going is to downsize your lures or bait but casting small lures can be difficult. A water bobber allows you to add a substantial amount of weight enabling you to cast further and cover more water using light weight lures. They are especially effective at making it possible to fish flies on a spinning rod.

Thanks for another beautiful video! One thing I have done in the past when fish are being extra finicky is to put the bobber on a dropper so that I have a direct connection to the lure. Occasionally that is helpful. I have fished like this using Joe's flies (weightless spinner +fly) since I was a kid. It was a popular technique back in PA.

By dropper do you mean dropper loop? Similar to tying on a drop shot Thanks

@@pdxfisher1 Do you use a 3-way swivel at all or do you simply tie the rig with a knot that split the line into 3 ways? Anyway, thanks for the suggestion!

I notice my line gets wrapped around itself quite often with this technique. Same bobber with 3-4 foot leader down to fly. Not sure if it hangs up on cast or winds up on retrieve. I don't cast hard or whip it out there violently. Any suggestions?

So when you use the water bobber. Is your wooly bugger weighted? Or Do you add a small split shot to weigh it down if your fly isn’t weighted? Or Is this more of a surface or upper water level presentation?
@spiltmilt
@spiltmilt 3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the depth you want to target. Sometime I'll find trout feeding just subsurface and then I use an unweighted fly other times they are feeding deeper then I'll use a weighted fly or add a small split shot. They even make sliding water bobbers where you'll need to use a bobber stop but then you can fish much deeper.

@thomasflickinger1949 Жыл бұрын
@@spiltmilt Adding a split shot is OK, what I did was, get some tungsten puddy and mold a small piece on your line. You can regulate the size and of course the position to suit the situation.

It can be tough on light line. I’ll sometimes use a length of heavier test with a loop at the end to pull the 2 or 4 pound test through.

If you flip the bobber, then it can’t unwind on the cast no matter how heavy or full the bobber is.

Why the water bobber over say, a regular bobber with some weight directly under it? Is it because the water bobber floats sideways on the surface?
