You are a genius, It took about 20 minutes to perform the fix. Be aware that after retro fixing the 5/64 pins it will take a few trys to twist the mirror back on the post,

Wish I'd seen this years ago. Your fix worked perfect for me. I saw other comments about drill bits being too hard to re-fasten the mirror mount so I was careful to buy lower end, non titanium, non carbide drill bits. Went back on really snug with a good push and turn. Solid as can be now.

You are a genius!! Just bought a C6 with a wobbly rear view mirror and thanks to you fixed it in ten minutes for about $7!!!! I could not be happier!! I am your newest subscriber!!!!

I'm really happy to have finally eliminated the annoying wobble in my '07 Corvette convertible rear view mirror. Not only was the mirror wobbling, but so was the (blend mount) mirror mounted Valentine One radar detector. Thanks to your outstanding instructional video, both are now locked down nice and tight.

Thanks for the vid, Would have never figured out how to remove the mirror. I bent the pins to be fairly straight and now it is mounted tightly. Oh yeah, those three screws were tight as hell, the grinder trick works well to!

Thanks for this Video!! I wasn’t very confident either, but your video convinced me to give it a shot.. I went ahead and just took a small screwdriver and bent the old back in place over bent actually just a hair.. not having the bits or no.9 torque .. next time if needed I’ll do a proper replacement!! Thanks again!!

Using your video as a guide, i just repaired my C6 mirror. But rather than use drill bits I cut up some 2mm piano wire spring steel rod I had on hand. It was perfect and probably a better replacement than a drill bit; however, it might be harder to source if you don't have a really good hobby shop nearby. Amazon will sell you a 20 piece bundle for fifteen bucks, but that's enough material to do more than 100 Corvettes. A Dremel tool with a small cut off wheel is the preferred cutting tool, but a big death wheel will work too. I think the problem is that the pins will get bent unless you are really careful to align the mirror base when you put it on. If it's cocked and you turn it, the pins bend enough to make the mirror wobble. The key is to use care, something the mouth-breather at your local Chevy dealer might not do.

I used the drill bits as you. The mirror was a bear to reattach due to the tightness of the drill bits but the mirror is rock solid now. Thanks for the video.

Fantastic video and comments. If I had just read on a forum to remove the mirror I'd have never tried without seeing it. Those that said it was a T9, not a T8 were absolutely correct. I got a 1/4 drive T9 from amazon. It worked great. Those that had the drill bits break, I used the Dewalt 5/64 twin pack from home depot. Thanks All!👍

Hi, thanks for the video, the fix worked very well! The pins I took out were indeed bent and to make it extra snug I put some thin heat shrink around the new 5/64” pins.

Super helpful. For me, I simply taped the bits where I wanted them cut, placed in a vice and taped the other end so they did not go everywhere. I opted out of the grinder (don't have one). It worked very well. I also had trouble getting back on going clockwise, so I angled the opposite way - in short you just have to run it 45 degrees either way. Tight fit! Thanks again! This is the second issue you've helped on two different cars. Subscribing to help your efforts.

This fix worked for me but not exactly like shown in the video. I see in the comments that some others had the same experience I did. I replaced all the pins with the drill bit pin solution. Problem was when I went to mount the mirror back on, two pins broke. The drill bit metal is too brittle and can't any lateral force. The only pin that didn't break was the "hypotenuses" side of the triangle that is formed by the pins in the plate they are mounted it. This is the flat side of the triangle. So I left a drill bit pin in the flat side and reused the bent pins in the sides. However, with the bent pins, I turned them so the bend was towards the middle, the opposite direction of how they were bent. I remounted the mirror this way and it is very tight now. The drill bit pin idea is great, but seem like the metal is not up to the task...at least for me. BTW, I purchased the Ace Hardware drill bits just like in the video.

Great idea on the drill bits. Just fixed mine. That torx but is a T9 though. That's why your T8 stripped out. Thanks for the video

So this worked for you and you were able to get the screws out with a T9? I’m picking up my first Corvette next week, this is all I noticed wrong with it so I’m going to try this fix shortly after.

Thanks for your help with this problem. Surprised that GM let something like this get by. Also surprised that some broke the drill bit pins in the below comments.

Thanks for showing me how to remove it. I actually just put about a 1” diameter oring between the mirror and base and reinstalled. Worked like a charm and wobble is gone.

I was just thinking the same exact thing. It seems to me there are three raised points that rest against the large round piece of metal on the windshield which are worn out. Thanks for your post! I was going to try the same but now, I know I'm going to do it that way

1 of the 3 drill bits broke on me every time I put the mirror back on, 2 are holding fine, it's still a way better idea than a new mirror.

Great video. I just purchased a 05, C6 and I have the issue with the mirror also. I am a retired and disabled Air Force Veteran and I am no longer able to do such accurate and detailed work as you did in the video. Would you be willing to make a set of the pins for my Corvette? I am willing to compensate you for your time and materials.

James ward, no need to buy new pins. Simply take your pins out and roll the pins 180 degrees opposite of bent and re install. Should be tight for a few more years.

Thanks! I think I'll try that on mine. I imagine any of the stainless steel options would work fine, and the 1" would be long enough? in the video he measured 1 10/1000", I don't know if that would be close enough. I don't know if you actually have tried those or not, but what do you think?
@babakfiroozi
@babakfiroozi 3 жыл бұрын
Do not use the stainless steel pins. These are too soft and will bend in a jiffy. The stainless steel pans are good for applications with wet or salty environments. For this application, hard steel tempered steel is required.

All wrong. Unscrew mirror. Insert a thin washer-like object (or other filler over the three wear points) between mirror and cam base. Reattach. Voila. No mess no fuss. Easy peasy.
