How To Fix A Popping/Clicking DXRacer or Office Chair For Free! - 1 Minute Tutorial

This video is a straightforward tutorial to fix noisy Office/Herman Miller/AKracing/DXRacer etc chairs that are making a seriously loud popping/clicking/cracking noise when leaning back or rocking side to side.
The fix is very quick and easy, completely free and is doable without any tools at all (although having a prying tool such as a knife/screwdriver/credit card helps).
The cause of this is due to bumps being worn on the washers from the ball bearing(see in video), so simply flip the washers so the balls ride on the undamaged flat sides of the washers. Problem solved!
There should be enough grease left over on the ball bearing (don't clean off the grease), if not, buy some!
This should last another 2-3 years before the washers need to be completely replaced. The size for replacement washers are listed below, the smaller washer going on top of the bigger washer. Remember to re-grease the new washers:
Top washer: 8mm x 21mm x 2mm thickness
Bottom washer: 10mm x 23mm x 2mm thickness
Rubber bump stop (if damaged): 8mm x 20mm x 10mm thickness

its because the harder metal bearings wear groves into the washer, then they pop in and out of those grooves under your weight which makes all the noise.

I honestly can't believe it. I really thought it was some bolt or other thing in the base that needed greasing, but it was the damn ball bearings that were wrong and just greasing those helped the issue.

Absolute legend!!! My chair had the same problem but for some reason I couldn’t find the second washer. I had another plastic one as well inside that was broken and found out the other one was just stuck to the inside with all the grease. Flipped them and now works like a charm! No Noise!

You are the man showing this! My chair has done this since day one! Annoyed the hell out of me. I tried washers under the seat and all, making sure all my fasteners were tight. Mine had a broken spacer in the bottom…. Probably went under the cushion. Switched some shims and washers around and it’s way quieter. Thanks again if only I found this sooner. The clunk from shifting on the seat absolutely sucked

thanks!! my classic Aeron chair was making a loud clunk when i started to recline. Turns out the piston washers were getting stuck in a clump of hair. After flipping the washers and removing the hairball, my chair feels like brand new! Much appreciated!

This is fantastic, and works for more than just DXracer chairs. I found someone mention this, and popped my herman miller aeron apart to check, and while this is a 6 year old chair, the washers are in infinitely better shape. Flipped them anyway, but if you are having this issue with the DXracer, maybe think about getting some new washers that aren't made from Chinese metalic butter.

So glad I found this video!!! XChair had the same problem. Has the exact components. 900 mf dollars for a chair and it makes a loud ass clicking noise for the slightest swivel movement. I had to take the white ball bearing ring out of the chair for it to stop making noise.. Absolute crap components for the price!! Probably going to have to waste time finding a new bearing or grease the damn thing every month

Just did this on a Kroy Mesh Chair from Staples I've had for a couple years with heavy daily use. My inner components weren't exactly the same, but the principle was, just flipped everything, added some WD40, and put it back together. No popping or "thunk" noises when I move. Not sure how long it'll last, but one way to find out, thanks for the video!

That was the problem with my chair. i rotated the washers and it was fine for about 3 months. i went to the hardware store and bought a pack of washers and some grease. When the chair starts clicking, ill either rotate the washer to the good side or replace and grease them,

My chair makes loud popping noises that I actually can feel, too. It happens when i sit in it and swivel . It happens no matter the height of the chair is So I tried this, even cleaning the washers and bearings, but it didn’t help. What else could cause this annoying noise?

well shit - that worked. I'll add, though, that my chair didn't have any bearings...it is just a white plastic disc and the washer. Also - it's pretty new and it's always done it since I've had it. So - I don't know why it worked, but it did! Maybe they install the washers upside down by accident sometimes.

My chair has been popping for 6 months and it's been driving me (and everyone in the next room) mad. Tried everything, lubricated every moving surface and tightened every bolt. My chair isn't even the same model as this. And yet - 2 minutes following your instructions and the noise is 90% gone. Probably could replace the washers and bearing entirely at some point.
