How To Fix a Power Adapter Warning - Battery May Not Charge - Dell Laptop Computer

Thanks! Helped me get rid of that annoying power adapter warning on my Dell XPS 13 7390 2 in 1 when used with a Anker 7 in 1 USB-C adapter, by turning off the warning in the BIOS.

Hi, I need your advise. I have an external power supply capable of supplying 19.5 V 2.31 A instead of Dell 45W and 19.5 V 3.38 A instead of HP 65 W OEM chargers. However, these OEMs use a smart chip their chargers. There comes the third pin with the identification voltage which tells the smart chip right apapter connected. Please advise what needs to be done for the aforementioned cases to convince the smart chip. Thanks in advance

After going to post behavior go to where it says the word ADAPTER then u will see the adapter settings.

Also could be a bent post inside the power jack it is possible to straighten it out if it is bent , this is how the computer knows what type of charger it is . Worth a look before going to the mother board 😖

It doesn't for me. Just makes the error not come on. The laptop still won't charge and is throttling to the point that it's not usable.

@@Dinos0001 haha I reached the same conclusion a year ago and the definitive solution was to buy a new charger. After a lot of research I found that my charger really was damaged. Hope you don’t waste your time as much as I did xD

UPDATE: It was a damaged controller on the charging circuit of the motherboard. I found an expert shop that repairs motherboards and it cost €124 and works perfectly now.

Thank you. I was so frustrated with this bios warning screen. I did exactly as you said, and voila! It solved the power charging issue. I took the battery off, pressed power down for a minute put everything back again and the power adapter started charging. Thank you. Static discharge.

I have been using Dell Inspiron for almost 2-3 years. It started to give me a battery replacement warning. So, I decided to call Dell; I was told they did not have the battery specific to the model. I was told to wait and continue looking. After this frustrating experience, I looked up online and ended up buying a battery from Canadalaptopbattery(dot)com. Upon replacing the battery myself, it gave me the same error message as shown in the video. I followed the steps, and it has been taken care of. Thank you, PC Monkey. God Bless!

Looks like you saved our family Dell All in One. My wife couldn't figure out why it was so unresponsive, and I've owned probably 30 laptops and desktops and while not a technician I can normally figure out this issue but this one stumped me. Thanks for the tip on static discharge. Right after it was flying again and responsive!

My adapters are Dell OEM units and they work fine on other Dell laptops. The 2 bad laptops I have are Latitude E7250 and E7450. Brought out an old PRO3X E-dock which bypasses the AC jack on the laptop and now they both charge and run faster. BIOS also indicates correct adapter wattage. This -E-dock works with all Dell Latitude E-series laptops from E6400 to E7470 vintage. NOTE: The dock requires a 90W adapter to operate.

Love your site. Dell Inspiron, I replaced the battery several months ago, and also changed the power Jack at the same time because I thought that was the problem before I noticed the battery was puffed up- my dogs were running around and yanked the charger out of the laptop so I thought they broke the Jack. Worked flawlessly. Today I got the AC wattage error and followed your suggestions above, no luck- also got the message with the battery disconnected and laptop plugged in to charger. Swapped in the original power Jack, same issue. Unfortunately it seems I damaged the 2 of the tiny tiny microscopic pins on the connector (motherboard side)- it was so difficult to get it out the first time. Prior to this I also got sudden wacky speaker noice too. Sounds like I’ve got to do the motherboard? Those tiny connectors are awful! :(
