Thanks very much, Michael, for this simple but effective solution. This evening my wife had to suffer a G+T without ice because our LG fridge-freezer had no ice after I had refilled the water tank two days ago. With your advice, it took five minutes to fix. I blew through the pipe going into the tank, replaced the tank, and water flowed a minute later. Like yours, there was nothing wrong with the ice-maker itself, and water flowed into it as normal. Pro-sites stating the most common problems with the ice-maker did not mention an airlock. You are several steps ahead of them!

Hello Graig. Thanks for your comment. That video has had over 40K hits so a lot of people have the same problem. I see you are in the Netherlands. I love your country and for a number of years kept my boat in Bruinesse, Den Helder and Amsterdam. As for the Ice Maker, I have discovered that the problem lies with the unit where the water comes out into the tray. It freezes and I now pour hot water over it. Regards Michael

Thank you so much Michael for showing me the hidden reset button! I had already used my hairdryer to help melt the ice that was stuck in a lump and blocking the exit tunnel - but having cleared everything I found the water was not refilling the ice cube tray despite the ice dispenser part revolving and working perfectly. I googled and finally came across your video which showed that truly well hidden reset button. It worked like a dream the very first time! If I may, I'd like to add a suggestion to fellow ice lovers ... if your ice use is more seasonal i.e. loads in the summer months but tapering off in autumn - then consider turning off your ice maker intermittently which should help the unused ice from sticking together into a lump that can then cause a blockage. I meant to follow my own advice but was away for the whole of September and forgot to empty the ice maker and subsequently came back to an iceberg. Huge thanks to Michael for the reset.

Thank you so much for your comment Karen. I also switched the ice maker off when a way then I found out that the arm that comes down when you press the button is actually a sensor. If the bucket is full the arm detects it and stops more water coming through. However on this model the water which should have come through freezes and you have the problem to sort again. Regards Michael

Glad it helped but I have now found an even better way. It appears that the problem is that the water freezes in the unit where the water flows into the tray. Thanks so much for the video Michael! So helpful! Ours wasn't working since we bought it second hand.. now it is! Got the water running! I have a question if you wouldn't please mind answering if poss? When this water freezes, will it automatically drop and refill with water OR do we need to manually do that button every 6 cubes?
@michaelchartres2 жыл бұрын
It should automatically refill with water. The arm that moves down and then up again for no apparent reason is actually a sensor. If the ice box is full the arm's downward movement is restricted and that stops the process of dropping the ice that is ready and refilling the tray with fresh water. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.

Thanks for a great video Michael. As others have commented, LG should feature YOUR video on their troubleshooting page! We found very early on that we had to 'prime' the water pump by re-inserting the reservoir 3 times each time we filled it. This eliminates the air lock issue that happens every time the tank is removed. I looked up your video as our ice dispenser has started to dispense water with the ice cubes. I tried to work out how to test the water filler for the ice cube tray, but never knew about the magic button underneath to trigger the ice cube tray mechanism! Nothing is blocked or frozen over, and it's only a small amount of water that comes out with the ice. I thought it may have been a partially blocked nozzle, and maybe the water was shooting out overspraying the ice cube tray, or the ice cube tray had a cube stuck so water was overflowing and into the icecube holder. Everything looks ok. Even monitored a fresh cube tray fill now I know about the button! But it looks fine and no water spillage there. I'll keep an eye on it and see if it gets worse in coming months. Great video!

So the main problem is about air lock issue that happens every time the tank is removed?
@max_dee Жыл бұрын
@@Samuelasteri correct. I believe you can however AVOID the air lock issue if you manage to refill the tank BEFORE it's empty (ie maybe refill it when there's 1-2cm of water remaining). If you catch it / refill tank early, you don't need to prime at all.

Hello.michael. i have got similar (nearly) LG AFF and i forgot to fill the water tank as it was winter and didn't need cold water and ice etc. Recently witb this lovely weather we used the readymade ice and came to know about the empty water tank when we ran out of Ice. I filled it with the water, water is coming out fine but wanted to know how long willl it take to see any signs of ice? As a new appliance it produced 1st lot in less than 4 hrs and bucket was full in 8 hrs. Just qorried that we didn't damage the mechanism or so by neglecting it. Also where is the filter and how to check/replace those. Your this video is amazing and I did perform the reset procedure etc just to make sure. Waiting for your reply Re: filters in these models. Many tahnx :-)

Thanks for your comment. I doubt you have done any damage by not using it. As for the filter(s) the only one I know of is on the end of the hose in the tank. Hope that helps. Regards Michael

You fixed my no water issue. Was clearly an air bubble. I don't have the button on mine for the ice, so I'll have to work something else out. It may fix itself in a few hours now that the water is flowing again.

I'm pleased it fixed something. There should be a button or switch somewhere on the unit, I know there are variations. Good luck. Michael

@@michaelchartres I found it. Watched another video. It's tiny and was hiding. Ice is in production!

had the same problem. I figured the water line was frozen so I defrosted the freezer. It seemed to have a lot of ice on the shelves and food from outside air condensation (I live in the humid amazon jungle). I think it is more likely this same airlock problem..will test this out now.

Thanks for your comment. I have since found that the problem is either an airlock or the mechanism frozen. Regards Michael

Thank you once again. Will this method work when there’s ice and the water dispenses but the ice stops dispensing?
@michaelchartresАй бұрын
Yes it will. When the ice bucket is full the arm that swings down touches the ice and stops more water coming through. The the freezing problem starts again. I have a 2nd video I made when I discovered what the real problem is. Cheers Michael

Thanks for this brilliant idea. I am new to this and have a few questions, please. How long does it take for the ice to be made? Do I need to leave it on “ice” for a while for the ice to be made? What does the “Express Freeze” option do? Any tips on how to clean the ice dispenser? Thanks in advance.

Many thanks for watching and your comment but I am no expert. Like you I had a problem and found a way to overcome it. So, I really can't answer your questions which are all valid. I wish I could. Regards Michael

Thanks for your video Michael, it was very interesting to see how the ice maker functions. Do you find the thinQ wifi remote control feature to be useful, or is it a pointless extravagance? Looking at the prices, the models with thinQ can be double the price of the basic LG side by side fridge freezers which just have the ice maker / water cooler function.
