How to Fix and Clean a Leaking MaxxAir Fan!

Today we are working on the MAXXAir vent for the van. I totally ended up making WAYYYYY more work for myself than I needed to. I guess now you know how to seal a MaxxAir Vent with out the TAPE! 🤙🏼

That will never last. Don’t use eternabond for permanent repairs. After removing the tape you need to use mineral sprites to remove the residual adhesive. Otherwise the Lao sealant is not adhering to the roof but instead to the old adhesive. Then use dicor lap sealant liberally.

Thanks for the heads up! But, No leaks yet and that was over a year ago! And this last rainy season was the most rain we’ve had in a long time!

So ultimately you didn’t have to remove the sealant tape just clean the seals in the fan?

@Randall Schaeding Exactly! I thought it was leaking through the roof but, it was just condensation coming in through the vent screen… So start with cleaning it. Then if you have to re-seal the exterior. 🤙🏼

@@EventheWavesYT How'd you end up with condensation if you were regularly running the fan? Trying to figure that out, as we have a leak that is actually a leak, but not understanding how that much condensation builds up? Since it can run in the rain, why not just leave it open often? Thanks and sorry if this is a dumb question. I just can't figure it out!

Not a dumb question at all! I live in Southern California and I only run the fan in the summer not in the winter. I do that so I can save the motor and the bearings. I believe over the winter the van heated and cooled enough to create some that I noticed on the screen (totally could have been my kids squirting water in the van as well!). Have you tried to diagnose where the leak is coming from?

@@EventheWavesYT yes. Passenger side, but not sure if through the screws or break in sealant. We have a Safari Condo alto, woth a curved roof. So the curve is already a challenge, but we are thinking the roof flexes and breaks the seal. 3 leaks in just over 5 years.

Do you know if it’s coming from a solar panel or a window or a fan?
