In this video I give an easy to follow step by step approach on how to fix patches in your lawn that are either thin, mossy, or have been completely killed off by dog wee burn marks. Dog wee burns can devastate a lawn so its important to stay on top.

Before spreading seed, mix dish washing fluid with warm water and drench the area. This will dilute the ammonia.

But I will definitely try your way to patch them or renovate the lawn later! thank you for sharing these precious knowledge. For me as beginner is really a gift! Hope you’re having more fun in you businesses and thank you again!

Thanks Shaun that lawn looks very good considering it’s gone through the winter . I forgot to mention on the site I was on they insisted on the machine drivers to put down a fuel spillage, try when working on the machine and even with the petrol disc cutter, when filling up with petrol that i use on sites to stop contamination to the soil 👍🙏

Hi Shaun great advice thanks, I also have dogs with similar issues. I also have a very green lawn unfortunately not because of lush grass but a covering of green algae. I get this every year regardless of the amount of aerating I do, and it’s back again this year. Is there any treatment or maintenance I need to do to get rid of this unwanted greenery. Thanks Mark.
@LawnRight
@LawnRight Жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, good drainage is essential. You'll often see it after prolonged damp conditions.. often under tree lines. Good regular aeration along with regular seeding to keep things thick will help somewhat. Some lawn sand down the aeration holes will help with drainage too.. so a thin layer spread over the area and worked back and forth so some goes in the holes without smothering the grass

Hi Shaun, I've been watching a lot of your videos to help teach me how to look after my lawn better as I've never had to before. Currently I've got a lawn about 30 m2 and covered in ants, moss and weeds and unfortunately it's got some shady bits to. I would appreciate your advice on the my current plan of action within the next few weeks: 1) Use weed and moss killer 2) Wait a week or two and then Scarify + Aerate + overseed with shade grass + fertilizer + compost top layer using a brush and treading it in 3) Water the lawn 2 times a day for 2-3 weeks 4) Once grass has grown mow regularly once a week ideally Any other helpful tips or if you can recommend some of your videos that would be great. I don't see any ants yet but when I do I plan to use the bait stations from Ant Stop as I believe this is the best option as I have an outdoor cat Thanks Alec
@LawnRight
@LawnRight Жыл бұрын
Hi Alec that's all great, but the issue is the moss and weed killer you're planning in step 1.. if you put that down you should wait 4 to 5 weeks really before seeding... or just forget that step and wait and seed in 2 to 3 months
@Typhoxtv

@@LawnRight Hi Shaun thanks for replying so quickly I wasn't expecting that. So if I skip step 1 and I scarify and aerate next weekend (weather permitting) could I try and overseed then or is it better to just leave it until like you say June/July time and then seed then but I thought that would be a bad time to seed as the grass will be stressed. Alec
@Typhoxtv
@Typhoxtv Жыл бұрын
@@LawnRight hi Shaun thought more about my reply from last night and do you think it’s worth to just scarify and aerate for now and then overseed + fertliser + compost once the weeds and moss have been killed by the scarifying in a few weeks time. I know moss will struggle with the warmer weather so wondered what the best method would be to go forward. I was thinking just do it all in one go this weekend but didn’t want the weeds to cause a problem with the new seed

Wow, so thorough. Thanks Shaun. I had no idea there's that much work involved. I still have patches (big ones) from the scarifying I did last November. I've got my work cut out now! But one thing I would like to know. I still have some "cold start" grass seed which has been in the shed all winter. I know you said that frost can kill grass seed, but that's out in the open, in the ground. So what about the unused seeds left behind in the sack? Can low temperatures damage/kill seed if it's still in the packet in the shed? Sorry if this is a silly question.

Of course, my dog is also an issue as well. Please advise how to grow the grass in area with frequent rainfall? Thanks

When using your scarifier do you use the blades or tines? What's the difference and different results? Can both be used on the same lawn during the same treatment?
@LawnRight
@LawnRight Жыл бұрын
Hi so when you say tines I'm assuming you mean the small spindly bits of metal. If so they're just a gentler scarify/rake.. good when doing it 2 or 3 times a year to take bits out.. the blades are more aggressive.. handy for when it's not been done for a long time

Interesting, thank goodness SWMBO’s dog is a chihuahua. I’ve got a little bit of dog damage on the back lawn. I intend to grow some 3 inch deep trays of seed this year in order to cut the size I need rather than small pots. Weather has been too wet to cut for a few weeks but looking good for the next week so just hit the grass with selective Weedol. Will cut it by a third on Wednesday to give to time to work. Probably leave the first scarify of the year till Sunday after another cut, but it’ll be a lightish one as I won’t be able to overseed due to Weedol. Given my last scarify was in October hopefully there won’t be too much crud there, but the front lawn is feeling a tiny bit spongy underfoot. 👍

Oh mate I wished you had made this video 10 years ago because I was suffering from the same issue. I bought a house and the previous owner has 2 dogs and my lawn was in a right mess. Did everything i could that made sense but didn't work. I don't plan on keeping a dog but I now know how to tackle the issue if I ever do get one :) I do have a separate question if I may. Last year I got someone to rip out the jungle of a lawn from this new property and asked them to put some top soil on afterwards. The top soil was of course of bad quality and had plenty of stones and I guess weed seeds in it. Now I haven't been able to do anything with the lawn since last year August because of temperatures, weather etc. Fast forward to April now, my lawn which would've been a clean slate has now got weeds of all kinds grown up to nearly a foot now. I don't know how to best tackle this issue. I do have the Roundup Optima+ Total weed killer, should I just spray that and will that help? If so, will one application be enough or should I repeat it another time after a week and then wait another week or so before putting the new seeds, fertiliser etc down? What's the best way to go about it? Thanks in advance mate.
@LawnRight
@LawnRight Жыл бұрын
Hi so if you're gonna do roundup and kill everything including grass.. that's fine but give it 2 to 3 weeks before scarifying the life out of it seeding then dressing.. oryou can just do your renovation and apply a regular lawn weedkiller in 2 to 3 months depending how many there are 👍😎
@ahmedrizwankhan
@ahmedrizwankhan Жыл бұрын
@@LawnRight thank you matey. Much appreciated. Just one clarification needed, currently my lawn is a clean slate (with only soil) with weeds growing or grown to their full potential and some are about a foot tall. Should I spray roundup on the top of them or should I cut these weeds short before applying? You have no idea how many of them are there in my lawn space right now, pretty much every green that I see is a weed of some sort.

Hi Mate, Loving the vids! I have a new build garden (i know) and the lawn is horrible, I have weeds coming up all the time and I don't have a clue where to start with what to put on it or how to prepare it. I have been watching your vids and think weed killer is my first priority then I can hopefully scarify and overseed I was wondering, I have seen your buying list of items but could you go over what to put on your garden at what time of the year? I.e when/how often to overseed, how often and what to use for fertiliser, and then like when to use iron / weed killer / other substances for lawn care? might be a few videos in that stuff but thats generally where I'm struggling haha also SCARIFYING, can this be done using a landscaping rake? (might be a stupid question) just want to try and cut down how many tools im gonna need. thanks and appreciate the videos!
@LawnRight
@LawnRight Жыл бұрын
Hi.. so deep breath first, Weedkiller can be used anytime things are growing. Sort that and possibly some fertiliser and see how if looks after a few weeks. You'll need a springbok rake or a scarifying rake torake out any dead material.. See how the feedand weed goes first 😊😊
