This is a quick touch on some of the basic points for adjusting glasses behind the ears to stop slipping and falling off glasses. There are certainly more details to a perfect adjustment, and some frame issues that can cause the same symptoms to keep in mind (failing hinge, flared out arm/temple, etc). But my hope is this video will give you some good starting direction on getting a decent adjustment at best, or at worst help get you to where they at least stay on your face until you can see a professional for final adjustment!
Proper upkeep of your glasses is important, and real acetate frames should be adjusted regularly for best results (every few months or when traveling via airlines). Frequent flyers I find it best to stick with metals :)

@ThatGlassesGuy03

If it's a spring hinge, they're likely getting close to failure. If it's a fixed hinge odds are it just needs tightened up or MAYBE the leafs of the barrels in the hinge are misaligned (if the screw goes super tight and the temples are still floppy this is the case). I actually just did a video on setting the right tension for hinges last week, so check out my newest video! :D

Great video! My glasses are brand new and do not sit even when on a flat service and when they’re upside down, so I know the temple arms at the hinges were made slightly crooked, what should I do? I feel like asking for a new pair because I hate the idea of having new glasses bent just because they were made crooked.
@ThatGlassesGuy03

All glasses need bent and fitted to your face. When properly adjusted they will never sit flat on a table. Learn more on thst topic here, but glasses are made and designed to be bent, and especially on the lower end arrive in all sorts of misalignment from the distributors. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pNOKqLhlxJ_Shac.html

So my glasses are adjusted and feel great around my ears etc. Over time or when sweating they seem to lift from the ears - one ear more than the other. Can the bend following the skull curvature be to tight and maybe this pushes them up? They are acetate frames. Also, most opticians tell me that the ear bend should be 45 degrees, but I'd say for the least sliding I need around 65 to 70 degree bend which is comfortable as I have a high prescription of -9.0 would you say this is normal? They are ultra thin but I always seem to have to adjust myself after leaving the optician as they refuse to bend more than 45 degrees.
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 2 жыл бұрын
A frame balance that's front heavy can require a deeper bend down or in behind the ears, but as you've noticed too far can lift and make the balance issue worse. It's a tough balance to get right no doubt, but I don't agree that 45 is always correct..correct... just that the 90* bend is ALMOST never correct 🤣

Hi The Glasses Guy, how often is too often to be going into store to adjust your glasses? I find that when my plastic frames are adjusted by the store they're good for a few weeks but then loosen up a bit. But I don't want to go to the opticians too often in case they break. Thank you :)
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 3 жыл бұрын
Never too often 😁 lower grade acetate and some nylon blends can get out of adjustment pretty quickly. Until the material begins to feel dried out from the heating and cooling you're totally fine (and this takes many many many years typically). With metal frames this is an amazingly good indicator of a soon coming failure, so good on you for thinking of this!!! 😁

I could not get this to work but I have a simplier fix that I came up with. Use those little dental rubber bands that people with braces use. Double wrap them around the frame arms and slide them all the way down into the hinge. I had to use 2-3 on some of the arms on my glasses. Took me less than 5 minutes and I just went and fixed all my stretched out eyeglasses!!!! Can't even see the rubber bands! Plus I still have the flex I need.
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 Жыл бұрын
That works in a pinch, little different than most of what I go over in this video, this one is more intended for newer pairs. Aged and stretched is another ball game, check this one out for better help there! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m8hklKx0udS5eIU.html Love the ingnenuity of your fix though! I’ve used rubber bands or even paper/card stock to fill a void on some odd ball hinges that had broken before to make them more wearable while I was waiting on parts. Great stuff!

Heat won't do it. A proper made frame of that material will have a different adjustable material for the tips that's really easy to work with. Sounds like your entire frame is the TR material, and in general isn't adjustable.

I heard some dude took his $1,000 frames to get adjusted and they broke it. But he signed something that said if they break it they wont pay for it. So yeah, makes it scary to take to those guys. Cuz i have pairs that are expensive like that but they need adjustments. So kinda cray for those in that specific situation. But like that this dude showed this. Nobody it seems the whole world made a video as good as this.
@ThatGlassesGuy03

Sadly I'm sure it happens way more often than you would expect. Frames in that category have incredible attention to detail and usually some impressive design aspects, but aren't always designed for outright durability and take a bit more know how to adjust. Horn, wood, or carbon fiber frames in particular are examples thay all require special techniques to adjust. But I digress, thank you for the kind words 😁, I definitely am picky with my more exotic frames and couldn't imagine taking then to just anyone to adjust even if I wasn't in this field+

@ThatGlassesGuy03

no, tightness at the temple should rarely to never be adjusted out at the bridge. Check out this video : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mtV6e7J52pjHd6s.html Maybe they aren't leaving indentions yet, but this will show you the proper principles for adjusting that out.

@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 3 жыл бұрын
First of all, cool frame!! Second, yes but it's very different... ill try to do a video soon, ut these should be adjusted so it follows the curvature of the skull instead of down behind the ears :) basically it should huge the shape of the head for its grip vs relying on the ears to prevent forward motion, it's a fine line as too much inwards arc will have the opposite affect and cause it to actually push itself off more 🙂
@LostStylus

@@ThatGlassesGuy03 thanks! That’s what I tried to do and it seems that I’ve bend it more than needed, seems like it might be the problem, the frame seems “slippery” on my head all the time. Will try to fix the shape :)

Help, tried to adjust on my own, didn’t help. I have been to the optician 3 times now, and they are no help at all, either have them hurting my ear soon or they don’t stay up on my face- whine, whine, whine. How do I find a competent optician?
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 3 жыл бұрын
@@bettyredford8165 I find masks make this an even more difficult balance than before, the happy place is wrong either with or without when making the normal downward and inward arc behind the ear. Take the tips from this video, and change it so that instead of down behind the ear most of the grab comes from the natural curb of the skull, i.e. raise the temples more straight back, leaving a tiny bend where the ear is without a mask, and follow the roundness of the skull as the temples go back creating a nice balanced clamping force. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to find an optician that gets all of the nuance of frame adjustment and fit, as there is a LOT to keep in mind (like mask wear 🤣) where are you located? Maybe I know someone close by 🙂

@ThatGlassesGuy03

That's a pretty big blanket of frame construction, of which most frames called titanium aren't, and those that are, are incredibly difficult to work with. I'm gonna lean safe and say take it to an optician 😉

Beautiful frames. At any rate, something like that I would be more inclined to say find an optician locally. That material is pretty darn stubborn and hard to adjust without proper tools and know how 🙂 if not.. the temple shape doesn't look to allow for bending downwards behind the ears much, and would really on changing the inward arc to grab more by going inwards more

Only if they’re way off, and generally with acetate they aren’t. If the temples aren’t just right it can feel like one pad is digging in more than the other.

I have a pair of plastic Nike frames that when I tried them on they fit fine but when I got them back with my lenses in them they are really loose now. The ear pieces open up too far and they don't hug against my head. The only way I've fixed it (barely) is to bend the end of the ear piece down and around the back of my head. They are still not right but at least they stay on now. I don't want to bend them anymore than I already have for fear of breaking them. Maybe the hair dryer will work idk. It's more about the actual frame itself being too straight across and not curving around my face but don't want to risk bending that part bc it may break.
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 6 ай бұрын
Those frames follow the lens curve, this one is on whoever manufactured your prescription lenses. See it way too often these days, will definitely be an upcoming video. You can bandaid it a little as you’ve already done, but that’s only gonna get you so far.

@@ThatGlassesGuy03 it's all good. Might just get a lanyard to hold them on during times of extreme movement.
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 6 ай бұрын
That’ll definitely do it. There are also silicone ear hooks you can get really cheap that will work, but they’re a pain to slide on and not super comfortable IMO (but I also hate cable temples). Unfortunately those Nike frames just don’t give a ton of room for an adjustment or I would recommend that. The lens fit takes a big priority on how finished feel and grip works out.

The arm fits the side of head but the glasses still slide down my nose, what is the reason for it still sliding
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 2 жыл бұрын
Most likely the bend is made too soon, or arms too tight. The former causes lift throwing the balance off pushing the frame forward. The latter creates effectively a giant spring that resolves itself by pushing off of your face. It's all a delicate balance :) a bad fit overall that doesn't properly sit on the face is a third alternative of course, with no real resolution.

How do you go about shifting the glasses from right to left? I feel like my glasses are on the left side of my nose and not centered lol.
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 3 жыл бұрын
Metal frame with nose pads? Would shift both pads in the opposite direction that you want the frame to go. More often it's a case of one side being too close, especially if it's a plastic frame. In that case most often it's one temple stretched out too far, and that side will be sitting too close. Bringing the stretched side back in resolves this :)

@ThatGlassesGuy03

The other common problem is a plastic frame stretching out wide. Still a pretty easy fix but usually better done by an optician because the areas that need heated are close to the lens and easy to cause damage.
