How to Fix (hack) Your Dead Power Wheels Battery

How to use the existing Power Wheels connector to wire up your own cheaper, and longer lasting battery. Links to all materials used in the description below.
You ABSOLUTELY need the 30A fuse. I tried the 20A and it blew in a few min. The link below is to the version with a 30A fused included.

That thing in the top corner is a 30 amp auto-resetting breaker. You can use a Bussman CBB-30 instead of the 20 amp fuse you installed

That thing in the back is the intetnal self-resetting fuse.

Hello so I have a power wheels quad I bought my granddaughter the battery charges but when she pushes gas pedal it doesn't move. I read somewhere how to restart it taking the negative wire of battery but this one has some kinda glue substance that doesn't let me pull it out. Can u tell me how I can remove this please

I had an old dead battery in one. It would charge, but had no power. It would drop to zero when the pedal was pushed. New battery was the solution. You can test your 12v battery with a automotive light bulb, if you want to be sure. The baterry shouldnt drop more than a volt when the bulb is connected and the bulb should be full brightness.

I hope this is not a dumb question but I see the in-line fuse but what is the black wire called? I plan to get the stuff from auto zone tomorrow. My battery doesn't have the clips on the end but nuts and bolts.

This spring one of the batteries wouldnt hold a charge. So that's about 2 years. I dont treat them very well... leave them in the garage over the winter and whatnot.

Trying to do something like this with a free power wheel given to us for my son. Ours is a 6volt model. Do you need the inline fuse?

Do you ever NEED a fuse? :) I'd recommend it. You don't want the battery exploding or something.

I haven't really timed it because my charger shuts off automatically. It probably also depends on the charger a bit.

You will destroy that battery too. Power Wheels lack a battery management system, allowing the sealed lead acid battery to discharge below recommended levels.

A low voltage cutoff circuit is cherry pie simple to solder together then cut it with a relay when it's below safe levels.

Your ads is misleading ! I came here to watch you fix a dead power wheel battery ! Instead , you hack swap power cable from original battery for the new battery . Your ads should have been power wheel cable hack from original battery to New battery .

Sorry. When the battery won't hold a charge anymore theres not much you can do. I hope this video shows you how you can use a much cheaper battery instead of being forced to buy one of the overpriced power wheels replacements.

This was painful to watch. It should have been like a 1- 2 min tops video. You should also have waited 1/2 a day to see if it actually works, and showed it working.

GREAT VIDEO, THANKS. I HOPE YOU WILL ANSWER MY QUESTION. MANY OTHERS WONT ANSWER. I PAID OVER $4,000.00 FOR A POWER WHEELCHAIR OVER 3 1/2 YEARS AGO. IT DIDNT EVEN LAST 3 YEARS, TOTAL SYSTEM FAILURE, EVEN THE CHARGER THAT I EXPECT CAUSED THE PROBLEMS. I SALVAGED AS MUCH AS I COULD. AIRCRAFT ALUMINUM CHAIR, TWO 24 VOLT LITHIUM BATTERIES, ETC. WHAT I HAVE STARTED DOING IS, REDESIGNING THE ALUMINUM FRAME AND INSTALLING A BICYCLE FRONT END, NO MORE JOYSTICKS FOR ME. 6 FACEPLANTS WITH THE SMALL SWIVEL WHEELS UP FRONT. I WILL BE CUSTOMIZING THE WHOLE THING AFTER MY 2ND. ELECTRIC WHEELCHAIR. CHAIN DRIVEN, 2,000 WATT BRUSHLESS MOTOR, DISC BRAKES, ETC. SO, MY PROBLEM IS THE TWO LITHIUM BATTERIES, BOTH 24 VOLTS.
