Just ran through this step by step as this is my first build and wanted to point out an error that I had that others might be struggling with, as well as the solution. When renaming the file with the BIOSRenamer, mine said it was renaming the file to “SB650EF.CAP” but noticed that the file itself just said “SB650EF” without the .CAP on the end like it shows up in yours. I decided to manually add the .CAP to the end of the file before doing the BiOS flash but immediately got a solid green light after a few flashes. Went back and tried it with what the Renamer did, without the .CAP and it worked perfectly. Hope this helps anyone else out! Great video!

This is probably because you don't have file extensions enabled in Windows Explorer. The .cap was there, but you could not see it (because by default, Microsoft hides it to not "confuse" people).

@@GlennBerrySQL ohhh. So by adding .CAP to the end, thus making it .CAP.CAP, I created the problem? It makes sense, though definitely confused me a bit

Amazing video, very clear and helpful, thanks. I could flash the bios, but unfortunately I still have the same problem. When I try to jump the motherboard with a screwdriver to test my build (the cooler, GPU and CPU are connected and installed but everything is still out of the case) nothing happens... I mean, the logo lights turn on when I connect the MOBO to the PSU, but when I insert a screwdriver in the PowerSwitcher Pins to boot (tried with multiple ones) the fans don't spin and no LED light turns on signaling me an error. Nothing happens! I have the fans connected, all CPU pins are connected to the PSU, I used the cable that comes with the PSU to plug it to the GPU, the GPU is also connected to the TV using an hdmi (I think this is fine? I want to use it as a monitor). Am I not seeing something? Perhaps it's too obvious, I'm just a newbie when it comes to hardware and cables... Maybe I screwed the Cooler too hard? But I don't think the mobo wouldn't even start if that were the case.

With that CPU, you will probably have to update the BIOS before your system will POST. The video shows you how to do it.

well, I recently tried to upgrade MB in video. when I go to uefi and use tool to upgrade bios, normally it will run progress bar and finish. But my pc will instantly reboot without showing progress bar and stick in cpu self led(red one). It stick for around 10 minutes so I forced to shut down it by long pressing power button. I turned on pc again it can be normally activated, while its bios is still the old one. what is the possible problem ?

Hello! I apparently have a problem with the latest BIOS version available (1807). When I updated to the latest one, my processor (Ryzen 9 7950X) stopped displaying an image, which is why it doesn't even allow me to see the BIOS in any way. Any ideas how to repair it? Clean CMOS, battery and contact pins. But nothing, there is no case.

Hello, I may be a bit late to this guide but I just put together my build. I got everything to work and I tried everything that this video recommended if it failed. I have gone through 3 flash drives all of which were in Fat32 and re-installed the BIOS multiple times. The light on the back flickers for a few seconds then turns solid. I have no idea what could be wrong.

Yes it is (if you don't have file extensions enabled on Windows Explorer). That is the default behavior in Windows (not having file extensions enabled). That is why you don't see the .cap at the end of the file name.

Just putting an update after going through this. The renamer was renaming it without the .CAP and when I’d manually copy paste the name it would not update the bios and would stay solid green after 3-4 flashes. I ended up leaving it to what the renamer would leave it at which was without the .CAP and it worked flawlessly. 😊 thanks for the video, great instructions

@GlennBerrySQL
@GlennBerrySQL 7 ай бұрын
POST means "Power On Self Test". It is a routine that your computer goes through every time you turn it on to see if the hardware is working properly, before it tries to load the operating system. If your system will POST, then you can flash the BIOS using the built-in BIOS Flash utility (EZ Flash 3). Otherwise, you would have to use the procedure shown in this video to flash the BIOS.

Hello, fantastic video, I've dropped you a sub :) I'm about to start a new build with a new version of this same motherboard and a new 7700X CPU - Now with the Asus announcement to update to latest BIOS that includes a cap on SOC voltage at 1.3V on 7000 series CPUs (to prevent the overvolting) - this has made me hesitant to just install the new CPU and boot. I'm assuming the usual start up process of BIOS would not have an overvoltage risk anyway, even on older/default BIOS out the box? Or would you suggest going ahead with this approach to flash the latest BIOS version (1807) before installing the CPU to play it safe? Many thanks
@GlennBerrySQL
@GlennBerrySQL 9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the sub! Your system should POST with that CPU, even with an older BIOS version. If it will POST, it is easier to use the built-in BIOS update utility inside of the BIOS setup program to flash the BIOS. If you have not built the system yet (or even if you have), you can still use the procedure shown in this video to flash the BIOS to the latest version. Getting your motherboard on the latest BIOS version is what I would recommend, however you decide to do it. I don't think the voltage issue is a big risk that you have to immediately take care of, but being on the latest BIOS version is just a good idea. rog.asus.com/us/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-b650e-f-gaming-wifi-model/helpdesk_bios/

Hey Glenn, I’m still getting CPU fan errors every so often. I now have my AIO plugged into my CPU_fan header, and temps are normal at 29-33°C. I know this is off topic but why is it doing this? I usually shut my PC down when I’m not using it, and this only happens every so often when booting up. I’m just going to set the monitor to “ignore” to avoid this but I’m just curious as to why this is happening? I checked and everything is seated properly. Thanks!

Thank your for doing such a nice video. First the update didn't work, because I wanted to go from ver. 0809 directly to ver. 1222. By updating to 0821 first, I got it to work. The reason, why I was starting the update was, because I found, that the whole booting process took too much time for a brand new system. My old FX8350 system only took half the time. Unfortunanetly it still doesn't pull the sausage off the plate now. It takes about 47 seconds from pushing the power button, to load the desktop. Toggling "POST Delay Time" from 3 to 0 seconds and "Fast Boot" on and off had no significant effect. Is that normal, or are there any settings to tune that up? It is still pretty early days for AM5 motherboards, and boot times are typically quite a bit longer than on older platforms. This issue has improved quite a bit over the past few months though. Some AM5 motherboards are better than others in this respect. I think some AM5 motherboards have other BIOS settings having to do with memory training that can help this.

@@GlennBerrySQL all went smooth. didnt have to update in order to receive post. Got windows installed and everything. However, I WAS NOT ABLE TO POST unless I disabled fan monitoring. My AIO pump was detected (plugged into pump header on motherboard) but NO CPU fans, or case fans were detected. All of my fans are plugged into corsair 5000d case fan hub or the corsair controller hub for my AIO water cooler. I did fix this issue by disabling fan monitoring since all of my fans were confirmed to be running. Again, ALL fans are actually up and running so it is more or less a fake error. BIOS update did not fix issue however. And it is updated to correct version. Do I need at least 1 fan plugged into the motherboard if I really want to fix this not serious yet slightly inconvenient issue ? Since, again, it is not real. From the little I have read online, the only way to fix the issue is to plug in one cpu fan into a fan header on the motherboard. I have not tried this yet because my cable management for my cpu fans is a little sub par and i do not feel like opening my case this week. If you have a solution, Let me know! As well, good video!

If your system already POSTs just fine, you don't need to use this low-level procedure to flash the BIOS to a newer version. You can (and should) use the built-in BIOS update utility from the BIOS setup program. It is much easier to use and more forgiving of skipped steps and small mistakes. You can always use this more complicated procedure if you want to, but then you have to follow every single step perfectly, or it won't work. The most common mistake I see people making is downloading a BIOS for a different model motherboard. ASUS has a lot of models with similar names.
