Yes, I realize I kept saying pads when they are shoes. You know what I meant. In this video we see how to unfreeze a jammed parking brake that hasn't been used in a long time without having to take the shoes and push mechanism off.

Thank you for sharing your technique Our 2013 Kia Soul sat for a week in the mid-May heat in SE Ohio, and when we returned, we couldn't release the parking brake. The car wouldn't roll, but dragged one wheel along the ground. Jacked it up, attempted to remove the wheel, but couldn't. and after trying a rubber mallet, switched to a sledge hammer and tapped around firmly, until the wheel started to rotate freely once again. I was worrying about hiring a tow truck to drag it out of our narrow, walled driveway to a shop for major repairs. We still have to get that wheel off to replace the tire eventually (tire tread is worn but not gone...NOT as a result of this issue) but we can do it at a time of OUR choosing. Thanks again for showing us what you did.

At the place where there is a bridle, can you loosen that connection to allow the cable to get loose when it is stuck pulling on the emergency brakes (instead of cutting the cable as somebody did)?

Those are shoes, not pads. The pads go on the caliper. That might help for anyone needing to buy parts.

I have a 03 TC. I think my parking brake is stuck and I can't get the rotor off! Any advice?

If you already have the caliper off, you want to use a small sledge hammer and beat the face of the hat of the rotor. after hitting it each few times, rotate it, then hit again. Don't hit it with your purse either, as you see in the video mine shattered. Thats ok. You can get new ones.

Some are drum and some are disc, disc is an upgraded option on these vans. Many come with 4 wheel disc standard now

I can’t even get the rotors off I’ve removed the caliper and rotor will not turn I’ve lubed the lines like you show my pedal moves a little

You will not be able to get it just by lubing the lines

An additional reason the rear rotor is difficult to remove... The parking brake shoes may have to be adjusted inward to allow for additional drum clearance. This adjuster is accessed through the small oval shaped hole (normally covered with a rubber insert ) on the back plate of the brake assembly ( I use a drum brake adjusting tool ). Additionally this is easier done with the wheel off. Hope that this is helpful and clear.

Omg i have a 2000 tnc and all the outside door handles are broke the lever for the e brake is broke. If its some kind of lever its broken. But i only paid 1000 bucks for it. And it fits full 4 by 8 sheets of wood in the back with all the seats out. I use mine as basically a truck with a cover on it. ✌
