This scale model of a funicular railway was built to be included as a part of an OO gauge layout built on a 2' x 6' baseboard. It is still work in progress as it needs scenic detail added as well as booking offices at the top and bottom ends.
Using an electronic shuttle service module a small 6v geared motor drives a winch in one direction then the other direction after a set time. How it works is explained in the video.
These model railway shuttle units are available online, as are the reed relays ( switches) and diodes required. Small neodymium magnets will also be required to activate the reed relays. These relays need to be the "normally closed" type. This means they will pass voltage until a magnet gets close and the contacts open breaking the circuit. They are made of glass so take care when bending the contacts that come out at each end. The diodes are IN4001, rated 1amp 50v.
