This video discusses how beginner squash players can generate more power using Newton's Law of, Force = Mass X Acceleration.
To hit the squash ball harder we need to transfer our weight through the shot whilst using our joints to form proper squash technique, to generate the maximum amount of racket head speed at our point of contact.

Great video and tips, but i guess it is about conservation of momentum more than second law :)
@CheekyMonkeySquash
@CheekyMonkeySquash 2 жыл бұрын
Conservation of moment can help depending on the velocity of the swing. If the velocity of the swing is slow 🐌 for example the conservation of moment is going to do jack all to help with hitting the ball harder. To hit the ball harder we need to apply sufficient force upon ball, in relation to the velocity that the ball is currently travelling with, hence Force = Mass × Acceleration. Newton's 3rd law also comes into play, but the idea of the video was to simplify things.

@@CheekyMonkeySquash with respect to you knowing how to hit a ball well you are not showing that you understand the physics... there is likely to be students who are studying GCSE physics that watch this video and you are mis-teaching them so although their squash will get better, their understanding of physics may become confused. Please either get advice from someone who knows how to apply Newton's Laws or don't include it in your video. Thanks

@@maths-club Your 100% right, in that I did not show that I understand the physics in this video, and that the bones and racket are the levers not the joints as described in the video. The joints are how we activate said levers, in relation to Squash. I'll be making a video in the coming weeks to correct the mistakes made in this video, and other video's on my channel.

A very useful video for squash... the physics is totally wrong though... Newton's f=ma plays a part in squash, but not in the way he says!

As stated in your last comment, Yes I did drop the ball so to speak with an accurate explanation of how the physics applies to squash, in mislabeling the levers. In saying this I will be recording a new video that shows some of the mistakes made in this video and others.

Most people don't even seem to do any rotation they just use their arms
@CheekyMonkeySquash
@CheekyMonkeySquash 2 жыл бұрын
100% agree, most people just use their arms. Most beginners swing is only coming from the shoulder joint, this requires more energy to generate the same amount of force as someone who activates all their joints.

Your simplification of a complex motion actually leads to confusion here. I appreciate your intentions, but this isn’t helpful. I describe the racket head power generation as more akin to the crack of a whip. Not something that can be simplified into fundamental F=ma. Give me a heavier racket, I won’t be able to generate more force into the ball. It’s about technique.

Hi @wjmanning, Thank you for sharing your perspective on racket head power generation. We understand that squash techniques can be complex and multifaceted. Our intention was to provide a simplified explanation for beginners and those looking for a basic understanding. You bring up an excellent point about technique being a critical factor in generating power. We agree that a heavier racket alone won't necessarily translate to more force into the ball. Technique, timing, and mechanics all play significant roles in achieving maximum power and control. In our videos, we aim to cater to players of all levels and experiences, and we greatly appreciate your valuable insights. Different players may have varying approaches to generating power based on their unique playing styles and preferences. Feel free to share any other tips or techniques you find useful for maximizing racket head power generation. Our community values diverse perspectives and knowledge, and we're here to learn and improve together. Thank you for being part of the conversation and supporting our channel! If you have any specific topics you'd like us to cover in future videos, please let us know. Keep swinging and improving! Best regards, Damien Collins Cheeky Monkey Squash 🎾
