How to get accommodation easily in Sweden - For students and non-students

In this video, I discuss in detail how to find cheap accommodation as a student in Sweden. I also give other alternatives. Stockholm is the case study, but a lot of what is discussed applies to other cities.
It is quite long, but you can use the timestamps to go to where you want to learn about. However, I encourage you to watch everything.

Hi Timi, accommodation sometimes is an issue for families, but as I explained, the first point of contact is your school. Then other sites where you can get a second hand or first hand contract. Concerning schools for kids, unfortunately I do not have that details, but it shouldn’t be an issue when you arrive.

Hi Nnenna, Nice move with many informative videos. I just wanted to add in few things about studies in Sweden. The job opportunities and accomodation, for new coming students, is relatively easy to find in Gothenburg as compare to Stockholm, that's what i found. More universitities near by this city as well. I am working and studying part time and it's workable. To find housing can be tricky but there are available many second hand contracts. I recently found rwo rooms apartment with reasonable rent and thinking to rent out another room. Job opportunities are relatively better now than in 2007 when i moved to Sweden as student. Sweden is growing of course but opportunities as well ☺️ Keep it up!

Soderton is in Stockholm county, you can register with sssb, they have hostels close to the uni.

Hi Imaobong, from what I know, not everyone is invited to an interview. If you are it will prolly be for clarifications. Questions like why you choose the course, city, etc. Maybe questions regarding proof of finds of the funds are from a sponsor

Hi Ofon, so accommodation for a room and parlor depends on the location, if it first hand or second hand and other general factors and sqm. Generally a room and parlor could range from lower than 6k to over 13k SEK. please watch the video for more context

Hi Oluchi, you can move with couples through a bachelor programme. Not all schools provide accommodation, the ones that do, they will provide you with options, for married couples, a studio or larger apartment will do.

Hi Onyinye, it depends on when the admission list is out and how fast you are able to pay your fees. Also I’m not certain of how fast the Swedish migration attends to this issues now due to the recent happenings affecting how busy they get.

If you course is for more than a year, you can apply for a 13 month period for a start, and show proof for that too. Example August 1st 2022 till Sept 30th 2023

Hi Yared, yes I had to. Did this with my debit card. It was an accommodation from my university so it was trusted and guaranteed. I cannot say the same for second hand contracts.

How do I park my place in the queue? If your Student Union membership has never been registered on My pages you need to log in to see which date you need to park your place in the queue. You will find this information in the blue box. After 60 days in our housing queue, a Park button is created. You need to park your queue within 30 days so as not to lose your credit days. Day 91 your credit days will be deleted. If your Student Union membership has been registered on My pages, it will automatically be put on hold when your membership expires. Once you have parked your place in the queue, it will not be reactivated until your Student Union membership is registered on My pages.

@@tosynemaria So, yes you can still apply, just that in your case a corridor room won't be the option, but a studio or larger space. I found this link for Gothenburg, it has a useful video and a link to a site SGS where you will register www.gu.se/en/study-in-gothenburg/when-you-are-here/student-housing. I also added links for Uppsala in the description. Check the links. If you can join the housing queue without your personal number(this is possible for most student housing provisions), then you can join whenever you want. Some of the providers ask for a yearly fee to be on the queue, so it will be wise to confirm your admission and where you'll be studying before registering.
