America has a public housing system where you can sign up for government housing. Unfortunately, this can take years. Many people find themselves homeless because of this

No one has mentioned this queuing system, why would I need to wait 13 year to rent an apartment? Is this part of the communistic Swedish housing policy?
@FishSlappee
@FishSlappee 3 жыл бұрын
Unless you're a student, in order to get a first hand contract for a rental you usually have to queue for years, yeah. Second hand contracts are way easier to find, ofc. There simply are not enough rental apartment buildings being built in big cities.
@ash3rr
@ash3rr 3 жыл бұрын
@@FishSlappee Interesting, so that means that owners who want to rent their property don't list it publicly, instead it's funneled through a government agency, and it's their responsibility to decide who gets it? Usually when I take a rental agreement their is a specific clause that says I can't sublet it without the owners permission. It sounds like everything is totally flipped upside down in Sweden.
@FishSlappee
@FishSlappee 3 жыл бұрын
@@ash3rr if you own a property you are allowed to sublet it for a certain amount of time, I think. I'm really not an expert on this though 😄 If you move out of your first hand rental there are ways to exchange it for another first hand rental, or two smaller ones if, for instance, there's a couple who want to move together. Ofc not everything is done through government agencies. That sounds a bit north korea-ish.
@FishSlappee
@FishSlappee 3 жыл бұрын
Also the queuing system is for the ability to apply to rent an apartment. You still compete with loads of other people with similar queue times as you.
