Do you like the sound of Gretsch hollowbody guitars like the G6120 or the G5120 as I have? In this video I will show you how to get all the classic tones from a Gretsch guitar, from the 60's like the Beatles, and the Animals to the more rock tones of Brian Setzer, Neil Young or the delay/reverb tones on Chris Isack. From rock a billy to country and blues.

Contemporary Gretsch serial numbers have a two letter prefix indicating the location of manufacture, followed by a two-digit year, a two-digit month and a four-digit production number relating to that specific factory for the given year. Korean models will start with either KS or KP followed by the 2-digit year. Mine is KS-12xxxxxx. made in 2012. Orange. Love that guitar.

Bought a Korean built 5420T in aspen green about 10 years ago. Best guitar I have ever owned. It is the tone that makes it special, especially with a little delay.

Thanks! Great too hear! Still a bit uncertain about creating the videos. Very different from playing live or in studio…

I own the exact guitar you are holding, and I consider it to be one of my best guitars. I can't get crazy with it like I do my strat (especially low on the neck), but I love how it feels and how it plays. For me, this does as you said in the video "BRIDGE THE GAP" between acoustic and electric. I use it now for my "electric acoustic" playing.

Nice video giving examples of tone and playability to get that great Gretsch sound without showing off or shredding! Mine is a Korean made G5420T and is a beauty. I mainly use mine when not playing acoustic and am more of a rhythm strummer by choice and use clean tones for early 60’s British Invasion sound and early Beatles music.

The g5420t is also nice! Thank you for your comment! Yeah i am not a big shredder, allways been more of an accompanying player, an under lighted quality nowadays. Not being the star but the supporting platform for the star

Great, thats how I am playing too, supporting the Solist and bringing him up getting out the best of himself. Btw., I'm playing the G5232T in Broadway Jade. And yes, this kind or art of playing is lightly underrated nowadays. Well, there are to much Stars today. Nobody wants to be the supporter in the Background but I love the feeling to push someone up.

I must say, it’s quite strange seeing someone else with the same taste in guitar brands. A brother from another mother. 😁 I mostly play acoustic guitar and have a similarish collection judging from your other videos. Gretsch 5420t Korea in Aspen Green Recording King RP1-16c (single 0 torrified top, not sure why they stopped making these) I’m presently in the market to look for a Taylor and a bit stuck between the new 212ce and the 214ce K-SB. The present deal with Taylor is irresistible! Other guitars I’ve liked but never owned was the Godin Kingpin and the Thinline Tele. I have a couple more guitars I don’t use and looking at consolidation to just 3 guitars for now A Strat, the Taylor and the Gretsch. If I ever have to go down to just one, think it will likely be the Gretsch - such a great guitar you can use it for so many genres of music and if you are predominantly an acoustic player it just feels very natural to play. Plus who doesn’t like a bigsby. This could be another video for you to make………..Which guitar would you choose if it was just one?

🙂nice choices, the Tele is a nice beast to have. Give the one guitar scenario a further though from your 4.

You should try dialing your amp a bit better, turn up the presence and roll off the lows. It sounds super-dark even on the bridge pickup.

@@NotThatCoolKidSo I tbh, but I feel like if it was more balanced you could highlight the different tones if the Gretsch a bit better.

Well what I mean is cheaper then the g6xxx guitars… and to be honest some are cheaply made nowadays… there are some flaws that they shouldnt have… with the paint or electronics..
