Little anxious, there's an intake next week. If someone drops out then I'll be taking their slot! You're right about the weight loss, it a double edged sword. Had a major at Pirbright tell me to lose weight during my interview, despite me obviously carrying a lot of muscle. I'd already lost 15kg at the time and if I go in a deficit then my training will suffer and increase injury risk. Get fit first, BMI does not matter as they measure your waist if youre over 28 BMI (includes muscle) which I was exactly 28 and I don't have a gut, eat properly or you'll regret it when youre not recovering. you'll lose weight at basic training like everyone else does.

This is pretty sound advice guys. I’m just waiting on my date now. I would add to separate your strength training from your cardio. Give your body a clear stimulus for your sessions. If you have the work capacity you can do cardio in the morning and strength training in the evening, or do cardio on separate days.

HIIT/ CrossFit WOD’s such as (21-15-9) or (Tabatta circuits which is 20 secs work-10off) with running and cycling is a good schedule to have to get athletically fit in general for the military. I like to go on a run/cycle then do a little WOD or Visa Verse for that extra burn…just don’t burn your body out and take rest days.

Thanks for all the great advice! Would you consider doing some intro videos to strengths training/working with weights for people who are new to this kind of training? Or on running and developing good form/good technique?

very good advice wish I had something like this when I first joined something to mention also is your weight won't necessarily go down if you are building muscle its worth getting a composite (muscle mass) assessment as your weight may go up but fat loss goes down as it is replaced with muscle but for starters, this is very sound advice.

wish i saw this before i injured myself. running with weight kicked my arse, ended up with ITBS from over-training and not resting enough. i was also running at a stupid pace that left me gassed out by 1km. slowing down the pace instead of stopping completely also helps.

2:54 What is a 'tabber' ? How much weight do you need to carry during basic (so those relevant have an idea of how much weight to gain)? What is the shortest and furthest distances one will need to run during basic? To give an idea how far to run on 'long distance' and 'medium' distance days

im very bad at running. I have a pt test to join the air force in Brazil and im nowhere near the time required. I gotta do about 2.2km in 12 minutes. It seems very managable but I'm doing it in 14 minutes so a long road to go to get there. I have 4 months.

What happens to the BMI if you do not focus on weights at a point. According to the Army website, an applicant above 18 years should be within 18 and 29.9 BMI range. What insights do you have on this?

Doing push pull legs is not good for my cardio training so I just take the second leg day to work on my left side imbalances and then get a good heavy leg day once a week. My only issue has been knee strength but im working on it, ive been to glencorse and passed and am deffer-ed until i finish my braces but hoping to get in for march if not then, then certainly the next class for infantry after.

probably not the best question on a fitness video but i’m starting harrogate in a few month and can you smoke in harrogate?👍
@apotato89
@apotato89 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't think so as the army recently banned smoking and there will be questions asked as to where you got the cigarettes because you obviously aren't allowed to buy them until you are 18

I joined at 16 at afc personally was a waste of time if your going infantry may aswell go officer or go catterick at 17 harrogate is too long and doesnt prepare you for catterick.

Hi mate, I'd recommend doing compound exercises like Bench Press, Squats, Deadlifts, Overhead Presses, Bent over Rows and Dips whilst also doing stuff like assisted Pull ups. This is a really good base to build off of if you can learn to do these exercises you'll be able to spring off from there. Good Luck

@@jacobbraybrook5211 I see thanks can I ask how many reps and sets I should do? I only have 10kg dumbbells which I think are light and I'm failing the bench press on the 11th rep of the 3rd set
@jacobbraybrook5211
@jacobbraybrook5211 2 жыл бұрын
@@arjunbadeshia2893 Personally I switch up reps and sets each session, I try to do a 5x5 and 8x3/4 in every week. With 5x5 you want to go as heavy as you can, so I'd say stick with the higher reps and lower weight until you've got the form down

I am joining this Sunday, I haven’t been too good with my fitness, I am naturally ‘ok’ at running, but I’m worried it won’t be enough, I have been doing 2k in an average time of 10 minutes but when I run 3.25k it took me 18. Will I be okay or will I really struggle. Brutal honesty please lol

That seems good - the army will make you fitter and faster, and 2k in 10 mins seems better than the 11.30 required here in the UK
