Stick drift can be a problem -- even on Valve's popular Steam Deck! Luckily there we can replace the default sticks with hall effect versions that don't suffer from stick drift and can feel even better.

Wish you made a no solder video because a lot of people won’t be confident enough to solder their thumb sticks

If you dont remove the SD card it will break when you pull the back off. Removing the SD card is step 1. I did this upgrade to the hall effect sticks as soon as I got it. I had the hall effect joy sticks and a 1TB SSD before my Steam Deck arrived in the mail.

Remove the SD card should have been step one! Trying to open the Steam Deck without removing the SD card will break it.

I haven't got stick drift yet but i might as well replace the default sticks for the inevitable

My Steam Deck soon developed some drift, though still well within the factory deadzones. I tuned them as small as I could and this has been stable, if they degrade further I will instantly notice drift and will compensate with the setting. Which if this gets too bad, I will replace the sticks with Hall-Effect ones, but as long as the original sticks work well, no need to replace them yet. Good guide on the upgrade, though it did not cover the A/B board revisions compatibility of the stick modules, which is an important detail.

Mine has stick drift as well but still within the default dead zone.

man, the only reason I haven't ordered a set of hall-effect sticks is because i'm still waiting for Gulikit to release Type B ones in our country. The type A ones somewhat work, but you lose some functionality. I would have loved to have done this when I changed the SSD out.

I would do this for my own Steamdeck but I can't just use the regular kits out there. I have to wait for the "B" version so they work properly for my system. Might be a good idea to point out the difference and what to look for when considering replacing them.

Ouch. Have never yet had a drift controller but they could start drifting with age.

hes saying its relative.. do you use the touch sensor on the joystick or find it at all a necessary feature.. if you dont think you need nor want the touch feature then theres no need to solder.. just snip the wire and pop it onto the new joystick and screw back into place

i just use contact cleaner or WD40 but contact cleaner is preferred, once every 3 to 4 months keeps my controllers in top shape even my Sixaxis from my OG Fat PS3 06' still functions till this day. So if you dont have the cash to upgrade your sensors use this method you're welcome!

i so badly want a steamdeck.. however the pandemic ruined any logic in buying one until the next generation comes out.. took the same stance on PS5.. now its technically already 3+ year old release with 4+ year old technology.. at this point im willing to wait a couple years for the next generation or a too good to be true deal on a used one.. really wish i had one though .. they seem awesome
