Key takeaway: if you load the backswing correctly, you will be able to get the left hip out of the way without the right hip moving towards the ball. This is mind blowing, how are are you the only person explaining this on YT? By far the most thorough instructor perhaps ever!
@paulc71015 жыл бұрын
Exactly what I picked up as well...left hip on chair as right hip still has contact with chair. The chair drill had been around forever but for some reason never really explained to me correctly I guess. It is a game changer. This is a small, moment in time move but so very critical. It is so easy to want to EE and as soon as I do it , it's a death move that you can't recover from.
@joeyarrazolo52275 жыл бұрын
To add to my point: the left hip is being pulled back and out of the way while the whole body and , more specifically in this case the right hip, is moving laterally towards the target some. Too much lateral movement and no rotation of left hip is a slide but no lateral movement and only rotation is just a spinning of the hips. Athletic motion golf actually proves this with GEARS in a video of theirs about the hips. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g5Nolc5i39y4iGw.html Russ, Golf master, if I am wrong about anything I said please correct me.

@@joeyarrazolo5227 Yes, AMG does good work. What they have found is that by left arm parallel in the ds, pros have 70 percent of their weight on their lead side. That's hard to fathom because first thought is well if that's the case them I am going to get ahead of it. That's where right side bend comes in. Oh and do all this in half a second.

@Russell - 4:35 to 4:45 perhaps the GREATEST golf instruction in the history of golf. I'm serious, it literally changed everything in my understanding of initiating the downswing and pelvis activation for proper rotation. I stood for 10 minutes attempting to do this move and activated muscles I never knew I had, breathing hard by the time I got done. Bloody excellent, if I may borrow a little English. Wow! You did it again Russell, said something so profound and correct that it literally knocked me out of my seat. Russell reiterated it's a pulling back of the left hip... and a light just tutned on at the range.. I know i'm just in the honeymoon phase of this change.. but I finally started to feel the clearing of my hips.. while keeping my chest over the ball with improved posture.. Thanks Russell !!!

Your videos are fabulous! Your golf swing is amazingly graceful and when you perform it, I try to watch it over and over (trying to visualize and copy in my own practice sessions)...which brings me to my point. Back in the 70's (the days of VCR's and VHS...I'm dating myself) a video called Neuromuscular Training GOLF with Al Geiberger was produced. I found it immensely helpful to watch prior to playing a tournament or before even a casual round of golf when time allowed. If you are unfamiliar with it, it was simply about a 30 minute or so tape in which Geiberger's swing was shown over and over and over in down the line view followed by face on view with soft music playing quietly in the background to kind of match up with his swing tempo...not a word spoken in the video. It showed him hitting about an 8 iron ( I think) at first from the two views, followed by the same process with a Driver swing. It started out in SUPER slow motion with each succeeding video of the exact same swing speeding up very slightly until the final view of that swing being in full speed. Again, he did this first in down the line view and then face on view...first with an iron then with a Driver. The theory being that you could watch in SUPER slow motion the precise movements of the golf swing and gradually end up at full speed which got implanted in your brain/muscles. I found it to be immensely helpful when applying his moves/tempo to my own swing. I'm not saying you duplicate the tape in it's entirety (could almost lull you into sleep), but I would love to view your swing in that SUPER slow-mo continuing on to full speed...maybe in just a 10 minute video. Again, I find your swing to be as good as any I have seen or studied from even the best players in the game. You don't have to have the background music (though it was a nice rhythm) but I would love to view/immulate your moves/tempo. Judging from some of the other comments from your followers, I think they would also enjoy and gain benefit from seeing more swings from you in this manner. Thanks for sharing your knowledge...extremely helpful!!!

@@steveperry1344 I think I still do but might have loaned it out years ago and never got it back...I have probably 40+ VHS instructional tapes but no longer have a VCR to play them on...no desire to really... as teaching has advanced immensely in the last couple of years...old school thinking about the golf swing was incorrect in so many areas...but the Geiberger tape had no verbal instruction...you just learned by stimulating your mental picture of how the club was to be swung over and over from super slow to full speed...I found it very helpful "in the day" and still feel it has relevance with the modern swing. Hope Russell will consider doing something similar.

Hiya Russell Thanks for another very useful video I must admit I'm suspecting you're watching my swing because you pinpoint my major fault. I am a slider of the hips and inevitably end up ahead of the ball at impact with no clearance of my left hip This results in either a block thanks to an open cubface, a fat because of the steep attack into the ball or a smother when I try to save the shot with my hands. I must admit I was unaware of the problem created in my right hip by not loading my right leg/foot so I will get on the practice tee tomorrow and give your suggestion a go. Watch this space

I've recently noticed that I've had trouble in this area. The key for me has been allowing my left knee to move out and back in my backswing, which then puts it in a position where I can initiate the downswing with my left knee and hip with a rotation. I've been thrusting my hips forward, causing the dreaded sh... sh.. shank, in addition to flipping the club.

Russ, when the pivot for the hips becomes the right hip (area) because of the pressure you mentioned we should create in the R hip, I can see how one can rotate the L hip back (counterclockwise) without rotating the R hip toward the ball. BUT does not the shifting of one's mass and weight toward the target move the pivot point more towards the middle of your torso (hips). Question is when should one start to pivot in relation to shifting one's weight toward the target?

Your all over it Russell. The Chicken or Egg question becomes What is driving the the Left Hip Back? Clearly most people would say it's the legs, but what if you maintained as much Internal pressure as possible and used your Core/Left Lat and created Lumbar Lordosis and Lateral Side Bend. Examples might be Jamie Sadlowski and Cameron Champ and many others.
@marklucey15 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by "internal pressure" Dave?
@s3gts5 жыл бұрын
Internal Femur Pressure. If you remain Internal as the club rounds the top, then the pelvis will locate forward of where it started in address. No need to slide or drive forward as the pivot is now on the Left Axis. The right hip now will draft nicely behind the left in it's wake. Early Extension many times is caused by going external too early in transition. Spin out vs Rotate In..
@marklucey15 жыл бұрын
Ok. I think I've got you, thanks. I wonder if this is like what Bradley Hughes talks about when he teaches the beginning of the downswing, as it relates to the lower body, is a pressure straight down through the trail leg?
@s3gts5 жыл бұрын
That's pretty much it. Pressure shifts from the center of mass. I'm not here to steal Russell's thunder. He has it going on, and sharing his knowledge for free. I'm supporting in different ways saying the same thing. Think in terms of a Ball Struck on the Left, Hit from the Right. That's another Aussie term from Martin Ayers.
@marklucey15 жыл бұрын
Dave Ford I agree. I think Russell is great and am loving his insights. Not sure I get “ a ball struck on the left hit from the right” though!
@jasontroutman98454 жыл бұрын
I use the v1 app and Adam Scott is on there When comparing my swing to his and right hip positions his right hip is about 8” closer to the ball relative to address where my hip is back to where it was at address at impact. His hips are more open also. Maybe I’m focusing on the incorrect thing but keeping the hip back doesn’t seem as beneficial for me.
@russellheritagegolf4 жыл бұрын
If you turn 45 degrees back, at impact square so 45 degrees rotation. Therefore you have rotated just not enough in transition.

Hi Russ Another excellent video. l have been following your videos on correct hip rotation for some time and trying to implement this technique and and then videoing it for feedback and self analysis - some of these videos l have sent to you. l find at times that when loading on the right hip and then starting the downswing l tend to "spin out" quickly onto the left side and loosing balance and rhythm. l'm not sure if this is because l'm swinging too hard to hit the golf ball (l do cross the line at the top), sequencing, etc but the timing gets lost somewhere - particularly on the golf course under pressure. You make it look so easy with your slow rhythmic golf swing which never misses. Could speed, rhythm, incorrect sequencing be a killer in the correct hip rotation? Is there such a thing as the "correct speed" in a golf swing or do you err on the side of swinging slowly rather than fast or doesn't it matter? Interested in your thoughts.

@jdshilling5 жыл бұрын
This first move is not really a rotation. The front hip moves slightly towards the target and away from the ball. The back hip moves a little toward the target, but not toward the ball. The hips are now squarely facing the ball and it will feel like a squat. You rotate from there.
