After almost a year and listening to your videos for almost 6 months I have finally understood something that I was missing: research based decision 😅 I know you mentioned it so many times but I didn’t really understood what that meant or didn’t want to understand 😢 I am telling you that in the past month I have learned so much because I finally understood and started to take action. I have a question, on Etsy many stores when selling T-shirts put many in the same listing that are different (shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, toddlers, kids) what do you think about this? Do you think it is a better strategy to do it like this or to list each style separately where they correspond?

Hey there! Thanks so much! This is a great strategy! But I would duplicate the listing, pull a mock up photo with one of the other products to the front, and then change the SEO to optimize it for that product. I would do that for each of the different products I was making available in that listing. Hope this helps and makes sense!

Great video, thanks! There are differing opinions on how frequently to create listings on Etsy. Some people suggest that rapidly adding more listings is better for your shop, while others recommend creating just one listing per day. In your experience, how often should you create listings on Etsy?

Hey there! Whatever you do, I think consistency is absolute key! The entire first year I was getting started…. I never ever skipped a week with getting my listings out! And I just did whatever worked best for me that week. Sometimes that was a couple a day and sometimes that was like 20 in one day. Hope this helps!

Hello, Shawna, thank you for the amazing content and inspiration for not giving up. I have no sales in 3 months sadly, although I did all the steps that you talked about in this video.. Maybe it is having impact because I live in Europe and here we have 21 percent VAT tax that obligatory is added to end buyers of our Etsy products and Etsy perhaps is showing in its page the final prices with this VAT tax added already to product listing price, so my products are automatically more expensive. If I drop them down more I cannot earn anh money but even loose money after selling. I use Printify prividers in US and my target market are US customers. Could you suggest some advice for my situation? Very grateful in advance❤

Hey there,Kristina! I think you might not have just been at it long enough yet! I know you said three months and in those three months, how many different designs have you listed? That would be a little bit better for me to gage what I would be expecting to be happening for you at this point. And I don’t have any experience from being in Europe and selling to the US but I am pretty sure there would be no VAT tax shown to a US customer. Glad to hear that there are some people in Europe that do well in this business that gives a hope!❤ I have 20 different designs now in my shop, it is not enough I know, because it's soo hard and time consuming for me with no experience in this before. I try to do better listings with higher quality and that is slow process for me as I can dedicate just 0,5-1 hour per day for my Etsy store... if you could give some insights in my situation, I'm so grateful again to you!

I watched the part of this video regarding the A/B testing and running the two designs through printify with the same SKU...I still do not get it. $1.5 mil revenue sounds great, but in actual net profit what would be roughly? (Not just the profit of the items but profit after ads, fees, subscriptions, and all expenses) And what percentage of profits do you then set aside for taxes?

Hey there Summer! Your talking my language! I love to talk about profit. First calendar year.. $30,000, second calendar year $107,000, third calendar year $162,000! Not sure where exactly I am with profit this year as I haven't been tracking it as well. I have to sit down and crunch numbers... Doing KZfaq has slowed me down a bit with my listing so I know I am a bit under from last year. I'm probabaly right around 350,000 for profit in total right now. Each year I save about 25 percent for taxes but never actually have to pay that much... so many right offs! Having your own business is awesome!!!! And because I quit my job I have to pay for my own insurance and that cost me $520 a month. But quitting is what helped me scale up to 162,000 last year so that has more than paid for itself! Hope this shines some light on the finances of this whole thing!

Love your vids, Shana but I want to offer a small criticism. What you describe as a loss leader is not a loss leader. A loss leader is an item you make zero to negative profit on for the sake of getting sales, views, and reviews. As an example, Sam's club and Costco sell rotisserie chicken at a loss to give incentive to people to come to their store and buy other things where they do make profits. This is an effective strategy for new businesses to increase their reach too. Some companies will launch a product at a loss, get as many sales as possible to develop trust with the consumer and then boost the price after to make profit

And if it’s a teacher tshirt or something similar clearly targeted to an adult, isn’t it a bit weird and possibly inappropriate if you have a youth tshirt option there?

Hey there! I start my listing in Etsy and I can add all the items I like to one of my drop down windows in the variations section. And unless there is something inappropriate/mature on the shirt I wouldn't feel uncomfortable making additional sizes available. The majority of listings on Etsy actually all these sizes available for most adult niches... like mom and professions. Hope this helps!

Shawna I have a question. I’m a 5 year old shop but last week launched my first POD products (t-shirts). They are July 4th designs. I turned on Etsy ads for these. Since it takes about 30 days before I start analyzing my ads, now I’m wondering if I should turn the ads off because 30 days will be after July 4th. Hey there Sandy! It has been a little while sense I have seen you in the comments! Yes! Maybe think about designing for an event a little further out for your next try! I will personally be turning my 4th of July ads off in about a week as those items will no longer be able to be guaranteed for delivery in time. If I were you I would probably leave them on this week and see what happens!

Hi Shawna, I have over 40 reviews in my shop by the majority of those for a digital item that I posted once. I currently sell physical items that are different from the digital item. Is it going to be a problem and detract customers as a social proof?

I am at my wits end. I have a phone case that has had over 600 views and 35 favorites in the last 30 days and only 3 sales! UGH! I don't know what else to do. I have nice mockups (I think) and I have lowered the price. Any other suggestions?? I would appreciate any crumb of advice.

What’s the difference between titles and tags?

Hey there Nicole! When you list something you will be asked to put your title at the top of the listing form. It is a 140 characters and you can see any title on any listing on Etsy. The first few words are seen right under each listing in search results. And when you click in you can see the full title over to the right. You also get 13 tags which you can enter in toward the bottom of the listing page. These are not as visible in the listing as the title is when you go in as a buyer and search up listings. But your title and tags both help you connect buys with your listings based on the phrase you are using and the phrase the customer is typing in. Hope this helps!

Hi there! Thanks so much for watching the video and taking a minute to leave a comment! You will notice many KZfaqrs sharing their Etsy journey don't share their shop names. I always so wished they would as I was so eager to learn from their example! I came to understand that this is because this would send a lot of traffic to the shop which would normally be a wonderful thing if that traffic were likely to be purchasing a shirt. But with a channel like this most of the traffic would be clicking around the store looking for examples instead of making a purchase. This would hurt the shops conversion rate (the percentage of people who click in and purchase) and as a result the shop could drop in ranking, be less visible in search results, and have decreased sales. Hope that all makes sense! But I am happy to share lots of my numbers, data, experiment findings, and strategies I use so that you can implement them in you own shop. Hope this helps!
