I enjoyed the video and thought you gave good advice. If EITHER spouse doesn't want "off-grid" living, then it won't work. It may work at first because one of the parties makes concessions out of love, but the shine will wear off very fast, and that leads to broken dreams. And if you have been looking for rural property you know that are lots of proprieties where the broken dreams are clearly evident (understand the reasons why). My suggestion... perhaps don't start with FULL off-grid. Start with a property that has some of the modern conveniences such as city electricity, city water, high speed cable service, etc. If you want to be full off grid you can always change over and disconnect those services later. Start with a property that already has a house on it, because it's unlikely you will convince your spouse to live in a tent or an RV while you develop the property or can afford a big house. For me (a man) even I could not give up city utilities, but my main desire was the seclusion of no neighbors. Now every property has neighbors, but a property where you can't see or hear your neighbors was primary for me.

Interesting discussion. From a man's perspective, I can see many reasons why men are attracted to offgrid living. Little girls are taught that they have value just by being themselves. Whereas, from the time we are little boys, everyone makes it clear that our value comes from our actions and accomplishments. Like girls are human beings and boys are human doings. Now my opinions on whether that is right or wrong is completely irrelevant. Human society just is the way it is. Eggs are expensive and sperm is cheap after all. So with that indoctrinated into us by society, it makes men feel that we are not worthy of receiving reward until we've accomplished milestones first. Even men with low prospects and a go nowhere job will partake in video games where they can "level up" their player. Or latch onto a sports team as they work to build from a loser to a champion. For men who dream of going offgrid, buying bare land in the wilderness is like starting at Level 1 and turning it into a self sufficient homestead is like working up to Level 99. I don't know if this comment answers any questions, but it may hopefully help explain to your female viewers why their men may be drawn to certain dreams. Like you pointed out, I would like to see men and women work to understand each others' values and dreams. In most relationships, 1 and 1 can equal 2, but when 2 people make the effort to be on the same page, 1 and 1 can make 11.
