How to glue and repair broken porcelain/china and pottery. In this The Ceramic Repair Studio video, I will be showing you how I repair a beautiful Chinese Famille Rose porcelain vase by using the correct slow curing Araldite glue, and how to place broken peices together.
Join me and start learning the skills of ceramic, porcelain and pottery repair and restoration.
We will be covering equipment, adhesives, bonding, gluing, filling, sanding, painting and airbrushing.
We all have a broken piece of pottery/porcelain lurking in our cupboards which we can all recycle and reuse.
I have been a ceramic restorer for many years after training in Oxford, England and would love to share my experience with you.

I'm like you, I have a love of Oriental pottery. No knowledge, just love. The owner was lucky that it broke only into four pieces, I think! I'm here because I've always secretly longed to restore pottery (Jasper ware mainly) but the idea of being able to restore a piece such as this is magical. You're so incredibly talented, thank you so much for sharing your time-earned skill and tips here, many wouldn't.

Hi Ali. I think I found my next passion. I searched so I could repair a special coffee mug that belonged to my Mom, who has passed and have become addicted to the thought of repairing broken, chipped, and cracked pieces. I love this artwork that you perform. I did not know this existed. I am retired and now I know where to focus my energy. Thank you so much. Do you have classes online? Sharon

I can't believe that thin a layer of glue is okay. Must be some seriously strong stuff. I found a broken porcelain sardine dish that I need to repair. A simple break but I want to do it right. Ill carry on watching and learning. 🤍🤍🤍

Using the tape is a brilliant way of holding the piece in place, especially when making one end into a 'tab' sort of pull-off for after it dries. Thanks! Also, using the cocktail stick and bottle top. I don't often need to glue anything but my daughter-in-law gave me a china tea cup and saucer and, wouldn't you know it, I managed to break the saucer. 😵 I have to fix it before she finds out! Thanks for your help.

P.s. Would also like to add, thank you for these very helpful videos I have certainly improved what I do thanks to you. When ever I start applying the old Milliput I hear your voice in my head explaining what I need to look out for. I do still have a long way to go to get to your standard though :)

Could you not warm the porcelain slightly to make it more fluid?

Hi Ali- why do you use ordinary Araldite for joining the porcelain rather than Araldite 2020 which I saw you use for filling in cracks? Many thanks Ken
@theceramicrepairstudio
@theceramicrepairstudio 2 жыл бұрын
I tend to use 2020 for cracks and maybe sometimes on multiple breaks. 👍

Im repairing a porcelain stool. Large and heavy. I used epoxy putty on the inside surface, not inside the cracks. It's holding well, but i need to place the broken top, which is about 1/3 the stool. Not sure how to do that, but im afraid glue will turn brown.
@theceramicrepairstudio

I tend to mix Titanium dioxide powder into the glue to stop it from turning brown over time. 😊👌

Hi Allie, I would like to know why you chose this particular Araldite rather than the other two part you used before, how do they differ ? I would also like to know weather when you paint the vase is there ever a time that you coat the inside to hide the joins as I assume that these in some cases still be visible? :).
@theceramicrepairstudio
@theceramicrepairstudio 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Charles, I did use the same glue, although I didn't add Titanium dioxide powder this time. I am going to use Milliput only on the front as the break was far down and not near the rim. Many thanks for your comment I really appreciate it. 😃
