My left hand was very much over the top, went to the American golf show on Saturday and had a bit of a lesson, the AG Pro pointed this out. A handy tip he told me was the back of the hand and the palm of the opposing hand should both be pointing towards the target! Done me the world of good. Now if I could only stop coming over the top.

Great video. Question.. what if the hands are working against each other to compensate? what kind of results does this produce? So the left hand would be trying to close the face and the right hand doing the opposite trying to open the face at impact?

I haven't played golf in two months. I'm sure I'll be in that situation where everything feels awkward: grip feels weird, stance feels stiff, swing feels jerky. This year I want to spend serious time working on my game. I feel like I could be quite good at it, I just haven't taken the time to concentrate on honing my skills. Great video, Pete, looking forward to the rest!

Peter does it matter if the thumb on the trail hand is placed onto/running down the shaft or slightly wrapped over ? I see some have their lead hand slightly turned away from target and their trail hand turned slightly towards , is this correct ?

Hey Peter. Just a question. As a low-ish handicap (6.2) would you consider making a grip change? Ive never had a sound grip, but I've made it work. In the long run would a sound neutral grip make me more consistent?
@peterfinchgolf
@peterfinchgolf 8 жыл бұрын
+Jacob Cook grips can be very individual and you need to weigh up what the grip change would actually mean for your swing

+Peter Finch Golf I totally understand. I've just been struggling with getting any height on my driver and long irons and I've read some tips saying if you take your right hand and put it more on top of the club it will help with that. I thought about giving that a shot and seeing what happens. Thanks for the response Peter. Your videos are incredibly helpful for someone who has never had a lesson.

Why is it that no one talks about the trigger finger yet clearly it is an important element in gripping the club with the right hand. Also showing everyone the left hand position what about the right hand, where should the club fit in the fingers, how much does the trigger finger separate from the 2nd finger.

This may be good advice for multiplane golfers but for those who embrace the simpler more common sense single plane this is bad advise. The grip must be in the palms for them. I know that all of you golf gurus who want to perpetuate making golf difficult because that's how so and so does or did it would like to pretend there is no other right way to play golf but there is and thanks to Brison Dechambeau we now have a voice. I wish him continued success.

How come so many tour players seem to play with a strong grip? One of the TV commentators was saying at a recent event that some of the players play with such a strong left hand grip that the logo on the glove is almost pointing at the camera at address.
@volans25
@volans25 8 жыл бұрын
+Nicholas Taylor It depends on the camera angle they are viewing. Are they all the same or are some cameras more in front of the golfer versus behind. This can shift how the camera views the lead hand. TV commentators are not always the brightest on being actually right when it comes to the stuff they say.
@volans25
@volans25 8 жыл бұрын
There is no correlation between a strong grip and distance. Zach Johnson uses a very strong grip and he's not one of the longer hitters on tour. It could be that longer hitters just prefer a strong grip, or maybe it's just a tour preference. There is just no causation to show that a strong grip means more distance.
@peterfinchgolf
