If you have tried sprouting flaxseed and failed, follow these instructions and you will easily have Flaxseed Sprouts growing right in your own kitchen!
Ingredients & Equipment:
1. Unglazed terra cotta trays. This depends on how much and often you want to do it. I own a few of them.
2. Raw flaxseed
3. Filtered water
4. A spray bottle. I replaced a plastic bottle with a small glass vinegar bottle which I use the spray nozzle with.
Instructions:
1. Day 1. Sprinkle about 2 TBSP of flaxseed into a tray. Make sure it’s spread evenly. Spray a generous amount of water on top and cover it with another tray or a piece of cardboard--anything to keep the seeds in the dark. Respray it as often as you can throughout the first day.
2. Day 2. You can see some of them have tiny sprouts already, keep spraying at least 2 times a day or as often as you can.
3. Day 3. Most of them have sprouted now-repeat the spraying.
4. Day 4. All of them should have sprouted-keep on spraying.
5. Day 5. At this point, the sprouts are longer, and they need more water. You can spray them like normal or water them directly from the tap with filtered water and drain the excess.
6. Day 6. They are almost ready, repeat the spraying or soaking for another day.
7. Day 7. Let’s harvest them. Uncover the tray, and give them a final spray. Put the tray near a window so they can get some sunlight for a few hours. After a few hours, the sprouts are greener and dry.
8. Store them in a glass container, loosely cover the jar with paper towel or a piece of cloth, and keep refrigerated. They stay fresh for 3-5 days.

I couldn't agree more ! I also think fhe way the video is gracefully edited with easy to do instructions easily makes people think they too are capable of growing their own healthy sprouts at home and all year long...not to mention that with this video you get the basics on how to grow not just flax seeds but other seeds as well for a variety of flavors.. Long live fresh sprouts :-)

Your'e welcome. It shouldn't smell fishy, please don't eat them if you are not sure--it's not worth the risk. If you try it again, make sure to that they get enough water to sprout properly. Once they are sprouted, they always turn out great and the tails look white, healthy without any funny smell.

Do you soak the terracotta plate in water first?
@ZealeProductions
@ZealeProductions 4 жыл бұрын
Couple questions. Do you want the terra cotta to soak up all the water or should you saturate it so there is some water left? At what temperature does this need to be kept? I have a space in my garage for growing. Will that be too cold in winter? Thanks for the video. Really nice.
@GourmetVegetarianKitchen
@GourmetVegetarianKitchen 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words about my video. The terra cotta helps absorb the moisture form the gel that is on the flaxseed, but you have to keep spraying them every day so they have the moisture to sprout--it is a process. You do want the water to dry out however, and then to re-spray it daily. For temperature, any normal room termperature should be fine and I have done it plenty in the winter and my house is often not that warm. It may be slower in the garage. In the summer they may sprout faster, speeding up the process. When I made this video it was in the spring. My blog post on this may be of some help to you as well: gourmetvegetariankitchen.com/2019/03/12/flaxseed-sprouts/

@@smallfootprint2961 Thank you for your concern. I was concerned too and bought a food grade terracotta baking tray that was very expensive to use, but it didn’t work because it didn’t absorb the gel. I did a lot of research surrounding unglazed terracotta trays and food, but found nothing claiming they contain lead aside from the trace amounts that clay may contain naturally. The terra cotta plate is important because it absorbs the gel water from the flaxseeds. Otherwise they will get moldy as they don't dry out. Sprouting in a hot climate will work fine though, but it will probably be a bit faster.

hi, did you soak them beforehand? soaking is done to remove phytic acid (better digestion). but for flaxseed, which creates that gel-like consistency, i've heard it prevents sprouting. i've never done it myself though, so i can't be sure.

Thank you very much for sharing. I live in North Hollywood California. I messaged a few companies to know if their brown flax seeds are hybrid and they said they are hybrid. I know hybrid food it's not healthy. Do you know where can I buy non-hybrid (heirloom) flaxseed. Thank you in advance.

This could be the reason I had trouble finding seeds that would sprout properly. I found good seeds at True Leaf Market which advertises heirloom seeds as I didn't have luck with many that were advertised as organic from grocery stores. I am not affiliated with True Leaf Market, but here is the link to the product I ordered and which always sprouted for me: www.trueleafmarket.com/products/organic-brown-flax-seed?variant=38623820488

You should not confuse the hybrid with GMO. Hybrid is suposed to be a better seed, uniting all good characteristics of a determined sort of plant, more colourful, bigger, more tasty, etc.

Hybridized seeds are not bad it's GMO seeds that are the problem. In a nutshell: Hybrids are the product of guided natural reproduction, while GMOs are the result of unnatural, high-tech methods used to create untested organisms that would never emerge in nature. Just look for "organic" non-gmo.

@@GourmetVegetarianKitchen Hi. Thank you for responding. A few things, my yogurt came out firm but when I scooped it out, it looked curdle and didn't taste tangy. Can I use an brown rice for rejuvelac and cam you PLEASE make a cabbage rejuvelac? I used this because it was said that it yielded the same results in general? (Do they have the same results?). Lastly, I expected my yogurt to look like the ones in the supermarket. Cream and uniformed. But it looked separated with miniature curdle bits. Why?

@@racquelrobinson3030 the flavor gets stronger after a 2-3 days in the fridge. I have never done cabbage rejuvelac before but I’ll look into it when I have more time soon. This recipe doesn’t have any food additives to make the same texture as commercial ones, but I learned that you can add carrageenan to make the texture smooth and creamy if you prefer.

Will the flaxseed sprout in a steel tray?

From my experience, it doesn't work. Flaxseed has gel on them and it needs something to absorb it, otherwise it will get moldy.

I've tried all Kinds Of Dietary system, But I Found Out Very Hard To Maintain veganism As A Single person. Quality, Quantity, Cost and timing are the main problems. But also some of the ingredients are not traditionally to be consumed as uncooked. Kale, turnips and all potatoes are supposed to be cooked while endive, romain lettuces are not. When? where? and who? started this system as a good dietary ingredients?

I agree it can be very complicated to learn enough to be able to eat properly as a vegetarian, and especially as a vegan:)
