@@jenjohnson4613 Wondering the same thing on when to plant in the ground! I have a clipping from a rose bush my grandma has. I rooted it like this, don't have a greenhouse, put it on the side of my house that gets light all day long, but no direct sun...it's doing great...but wondering as the summer moves along, when is the best time to plant in the ground? Some say wait and winter it, some say August, some say the fall...hmmm!

My grandma took a cutting from her grandmother when she married my grandfather after WW2. He passed away couple years ago, and she is now 91. I have the chance to clone her roses and gift them to the rest of the family. I'm going to clone twice as many as i can, and share them with my massive family. Thanks for the tips and tricks. I just want to preserve that legacy. For some reason, I find great value in that. Thanks for the hard work and wisdom. This plant is over 100 years old, and I'd hate to see it fade away.

Also as a handy little note... The bottoms that you cut off your drink bottles can also be re-used as a seedling container. Just pop a few drainage holes in the bottom, add growing medium of your choice, and voila! Seed trays. Nothing wasted! 😊 Happy growing and God bless everyone.

Watched this video last year. Right after blooming, I cut the flowers of and planted the cuttings with the bottles on top. 3 out of 5 made it. I thought like this I had the best chance since all the energy was going into the top where the flowers were. In this way I could use that energy for my plantings. And gues what ? This year the new roses even started blooming ! Can you imagine, after one year ? I was totally baffled. Thanks for the tips because now I've been able to "reproduce" my more than 60 year old climbing rose !!! Greatings from Holland ( EU)

I'm watching this video because I want to take cuttings from a rose plant called Shiela's Perfume, it has the same name as my aunt who passed away last year. She had Down Syndrome and died in her 40s. I wanted to take the cuttings and grow plants to give to all of her siblings (my uncles and my mom), she was the youngest of four. Mike, I'm just seeing this and how excited I was to see it. My mother-in-law - way back in 1968 - taught me about rooting rose cuttings. She simply would trim the branch as you did, trim the thorns, dip it in the power root tone and "stick it in the ground with a jar over it". She had a spot just outside her kitchen door where her "babies started". She would watch the day, and if it was cloudy and coolish, she'd leave the jar as it was. If it was bright sunshine, she'd raise the jar on flat stones or such until nightfall. It never failed. Two years ago, I discovered an ancient climbing rose in our bushes, totally overgrown with monkey grass and such. I was thrilled! I dug it up, placed it in a showy spot and kept it watered. It grew wonderfully last year, no flowers, but great bush development. This year, right now, it's covered in buds. And it has the most wonderful "old climbing rose" scent. As the flowers fade, I will try some transplants...because...who ever has "enough"?? Thank you for your video!

The key is rooting hormone. After removing the thorns, I go even further by lightly scaping the lower end of the stem to encourage more roots from the "wound". Also, I have made new plants by planting them directly into the ground and not using a plastic cover. Here in NY state, I have done this in the fall when weather is not hot anymore and it is relatively cool, but still weeks from a frost. By spring, the cutting is established and has new growth sprouting. Everyone should try to make cuttings of roses, especially if you have an heirloom rose bush! 🌹

In 1978, for my 18th birthday, my father gave me a grandiflora rose bush. It has been transplanted a handful of times and is in our flowerbed at our current house. Last year, I rooted a cutting from it using your method, Mike. Two weeks ago, I planted the successful, first attempted propagation of my grandiflora Queen Elizabeth rose bush in the front flowerbed! On that day I took 3 more cuttings from the original because I want to give some to my daughter and son-in-law for their new home. More success, please! Thank you, Mr. Kincaid. What you have shared means so much. 👩‍👧

@@MikeKincaid79 hello, I feel so hopeful! Two of the last three cuttings have done well and I was wondering, would it be best to let them winter-over indoors? That's what I did with last year's cutting because my husband thought it would be a good idea. By the way, Mike, it now has its second bud about to blossom! The first flower was huge, healthy and so beautiful!

Gday Mike, Thanks for taking the time to film and make the vid. Where we live in Western Australia, the large major rose wholesalers land that use to be on the outskirts of town are being bought up by developers. We’ve lost the bulk of suppliers and a wealth of knowledge. My wife has amazing Gold Bunny climbing roses and she would like some more. We just can’t get them anywhere. Well it’s summer here now and we’re going to do this. Thanks again so much. All the very best to you and your beautiful family, Cheers 🍻

Thanks Nigel, I wish you the best of luck. I have many rose rooting videos if you need more help on it. Here's the last one I did that is even more comprehensive and succinct: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r8Vhmbijss6noJs.html I love that it's always summer somewhere on this planet. Back in 2001, I visited Perth in January. I was in the US Navy from 97 to 01 and we made a stop there on our way back from the Persian Gulf. Beautiful place. Worst sunburn I've ever gotten in the middle of my "normal winter", hahaha. It was bizarre to me to be so hot and sunny when I'm used to clouds, rain, and snow. We made a stop in Hobart, Tasmania on our way out and that was equally nice. The people in your part of the world are about as down to Earth and friendly as they come. Good luck to you guys!

@@MikeKincaid79 Hi Mike, There’s a good chance I may have been the Tug Skipper on the tug if you guys came alongside in the inner harbour in Fremantle. Yes, the sun in Australia catches out many from the Northern Hemisphere. We have a very depleted Ozone layer over Australia that would usually filter out the bad UV. Also the elliptical orbit apparently puts Oz closer to the sun during our summer. Both add up to cooking those not use it and boy can it be painful. Especially with no shortage of buddies willing to give you a slap on the back. 😁 My wife and I watched your link and once again just wanted to say thanks mate for the great info. Yeah, we’re not a bad bunch down here. I owe you a beer and you’re welcome back any time! 👍 Cheers 🍻

Thank you for this video. My mom's rose bushes are very very old. Some are 75 years old She and my dad passed, the house sold and I am trying to propagate from the rose bushes. One major problem: the new owner shut off the water to the roses. They have been without water for several months (in California where summer days can be in the mid-90's). There are still leaves on the vines but all blooms are dead. It's a long shot to get any propagation, but I am trying. Thanks for your video Mike. My husband and I really enjoy you. I absolutely had a tiny stem that I stuck into a small piece of a potato and put into ground. Put a glass jar over it. I did check it every 4 to 5 days. I removed the Jar once I saw new growth/leaves and left it off. Turned into a little bush and did fine for the summer. I covered for the winter, and it came back beginning of spring with more branches. I think if I had done it this way, I would be a lot further a long by now. I can't gripe because I did get something going, lol. But I bet you I try your method this next time! Thank you! ❤

You told me when to cut how to plant how to water how to fertilize how to care for them completely. I wondered about just setting them up in the actual garden, using this system. Cool, info to know. Thank you😊. Have a great day👍👍🇨🇦.

I’m going to try this with my great grandmother’s rose bush. It is so fragrant and a gorgeous pink color.

I really liked your video, so I tried it with a mini rose bush I already have. TOTAL SUCCESS!!! I now have 3 rose bushes. And they are so healthy and beautiful. It's only been a couple of months so no buds yet but I am taking another cutting tomorrow from a recent bloom....we'll see if it works so well again. Thank you so much.
