I just discovered your channel the other day and I'm absolutely blow away by your projects. I'm particularly interested in upgrades for the 2011 model imac and was amazed by your connecting an external gpu via the DVD slot. Thing is, have you considered any CPU upgrades for the 2009-2011 imacs? There is a thread on the MacRumours website dedicated to this topic but they seem to have hit a dead end. The theory is that there is something in the microcode preventing Ivybridge CPUs working in these machines - any thoughts on this?

Yes, and no. yes because its replaceable if you master soldering(no one really proved yet that it works), and no because you just cant get any new NAND SSD for it. its a special NAND made for apple

Hello. I plan to do something similar with my Thinkpad T440p, using the empty pads that the GPU would've used for another PCIe device, but after watching this video i want to ask something. If the GPU uses the first 8 PCIe lanes of the CPU for its slot, is it possible to split that somehow to have two x4 devices connected instead of one x8 device? As seen in this video and the intel website, if i want two x4 devices i would need to do x8, x4, x4 split but wouldn't this configuration just split the other 8 lanes that aren't accessible while the 8 that would've been used by the GPU stay as they are?

yes youre right. when you activate the PCIe bifurcation switch, it only change the last x8 (most of the time not wired) to x4 x4. So the first x8 will never bifurcate unless you use Upstream PCIe Switch which is not practical.
