Good point. Having designated hitters/runners for catchers would make a lot more sense than having them for pitchers. Unfortunately, for a lot of teams, catchers tend to also be power hitters. Not exactly someone you want to take out of your batting order.

I have coached for over 8 years, and I can tell you every player has the ability to be a great player. Some of the other girls have probably played for years and that is fine. Be a sponge and learn as much as you can from the players and the coaches. You will do fine, the most important thing is to enjoy the game. Softball is a great sport. Good luck to you this season!

Hey Sarah. I've been coaching a l-o-n-g time and coached LOTS of new players. Here are some tips about learning the game 1. Listen to your coach. 2. Watch good players. 3. Give yourself time to get good - Don't expect to be an overnight sensation! 4. Have fun. 5. Have fun 6. Have fun!! :) Good luck and have a great time.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but when the swing is broken down stage by stage, the angle of the bat is flat as it traverses across the plate. However, when the video shows the girl doing a natural swing but played in slow-mo, the bat is definitely swung at an angle.
@davehlavac19807 жыл бұрын
Are the elements and sequence of hitting the same in slow pitch as for fast pitch? The plane of the ball is certainly diferent?
@consadosambora53477 жыл бұрын
IMO the mechanics of hitting are the same in all forms of ball you want to have good balance, level swing, and watch the ball all the way to the bat. There is obviously way in slow pitch to hit for more power because you have time to adjust your swing but most people just end up popping up when they try to hit home runs. Not sure if this gave you anymore insight than you already have but enjoy playing ball!!

@o80555 жыл бұрын
Yes. You should try to keep your back elbow in because it gives you more power on your swing, and you’re not taking the few extra seconds to bring your elbow in while you’re swinging.

Mike why is rolling the wrists a problem when it creates TOP SPIN rather than back spin, I coach in Australia.
@jamesw43685 жыл бұрын
Because rolling your wrists will typically cause a ball to drive directly towards the ground and shorten the travel capacity of the hit. Top spin and back spin are created by bat placement on a ball at point of contact.
@brazy88655 жыл бұрын
can i wear contacts while playing?
@dominiquekirk27464 жыл бұрын
Yes
@philmccracken1794 жыл бұрын
No, before every game the umpire checks everyone’s eyeballs to see if they are wearing contacts. If the umpire finds that a player is wearing contacts, he is obligated by rule to hammer a nail in their eye as a penalty.

Not so much on your hands moving forward as a unit with your body on stride.. That's a poor swing. Your hands should stay back until front foot lands to have separation / stretch.

I don't think anyone should use the word, but as long as it's consider artistic license, its really hypocritical to punish anyone for repeating a lyric. Either punish everyone, or nobody. Personally, I would never let a word define who I am. I'm an American of Polish decent. Both sets of grandparents immigrated to this great country. As a young man I often was referred to as a Polish slur. When I was younger, I won't lie, it bothered me. But as I matured I realized that people say things like that because of their own self insecurities, letting a slur bother you is giving them the power they seek. If you are someone that doesn't know me, who are you to judge me. The only people who's judgements impact me are the people that truly know me. If a friend or family member have critical words toward me, it hits home. Someone that doesn't know me, I don't care. I once had a teacher in HS, he was my Geography teacher. He sucked as geography teacher, but he taught me one thing that has lasted a life time. He taught me about love & hate. See to truly hate someone, at one time you had to love them, or at least really like them. The worst thing you can say about someone is I don't care. You don't matter to me, I don't care about you. And that's how I feel about people that I don't know that want to say derogatory things about me: I don't care cause you don't matter to me!

Good video... but that "early stride" of the batter with the knee pads just looks like bad batting mechanics that need to be coached away. One thing that this video doesn't cover is how those batters developed their "unique" stances and strides in the first place. The reality is that they probably developed them because of bad coaching -- either from a well-meaning parent or a bad coach. There's no way you can convince me that striding before the "load" (or negative move) is as effective as striding after the load.
@it_is_finished4 жыл бұрын
McScott76 I agree with you. I’ve never seen anyone stride before load. However, it’s basically the same as not striding at all. And that’s ok as long as you are getting some negative and then positive movement.
