Thanks so much for your videos, they gave me the courage and confidence I needed to tackle my transom project. That Mercury hoist nut/ flywheel puller was clutch. You saved me a headache or two. Hoping to be back on the water soon.

Brilliant! Simple, but still brilliant. I've lifted these motors several times using different methods, but had totally forgotten that I could use a chain on some robust bolts or use the flywheel puller I bought for that purpose. Thanks for reminding me. Your language and description was clear and concise. Great video! I subscribed immediately. Thank you

From a transplant Marylander in South Lake Tahoe, CA - Thanks for this video. Its exactly the topic I was searching for and the prelude of junking or making a yard ornament concurred with my exact dilemma. Tight lines.

I was just figuring out how in the hell lift up Mercury 50 out of the boat...so that it won't break or flip around...Thanks for the video and the good tips! There is some kind of casted frame, but it doesn't look very strong regarding the weight of the motor...I have a tractor to lift it up, but I need to go back and review the possible points to attach a lift-up chain or rope. Also, I learned the handy tool to load/unload the pickup truck! That was a bonus! Thanks again!

I found an empty eye hole that I could fit a d shackle through, It was under the flywheel, so I use a short loop of strap from the shackle to the lift hook to protect the flywheel. with so many different examples, this video helped me think outside the box and I found my own solution. Thanks Max!

harbor freight roller crane i got a 2 ton one in the back of my truck with a 85 mercury it was about 400 lbs i used a old chain and 2 links that screw sections to join ends of chain with links! i got motors i can work on! i smashed a wall when the bigger motor(150 v6 evinrude) fell and bounced off pallet & cost me 150 for repair of it, the crane would help me in removing motor and replacing other motor!

Mrmaxstorey: I’ve been with you for a long time and so glad you’re still making videos, even if it isn’t as often. I had a question for you if you had any ideas where I should start. I have an opportunity to buy a clean 1970 Suzuki 100. It has power going to the coil but no spark. Aside from plug and wire any idea where I might look to getting spark again? Thanks in advance

It was helpful. Would a pair of nylon straps around the underside of the outboard body just below the engine work? (I think the term lifting ring is what you in your video referred to, rather than hook)

I've got a mercury 115 and I've ordered one of those rings to screw onto the flywheel shaft. I'm assuming I have to remove the flywheel nut to access some threads correct? When I put the nut back what should I torque it at?
@mrmaxstorey3 жыл бұрын
No you leave the nut on, it threads over the nut
@KenPool Жыл бұрын
I’m also about to hoist a Merc 115. The guy at the mercury dealer indicated I don’t need one of those rings and instead attach a strap to three places on the motor. I haven’t even taken the cowling off yet so I’m hoping I can see where those places are.

Great video. How difficult is it to move the loaded jack over the grassy area? Any tricks to make it easier?
@mrmaxstorey3 жыл бұрын
It was not at all possible except for very short distances positioning. I thought about implementing a track system out of sheets of steel, but ultimately the trick became just moving the truck out of the way and setting the wooden stands to wherever the motor was. Now I have a shop with a concrete floor and its like luxury
