Try the adjustment in the video first, possibly your cable has stretched and you may need to replace it if you can't tighten it up. It's not too hard tho

on 175hp isn't the starter at risk of breaking while holding the flywheel? have you ever used the chain bolted to block then screwdriver though chain an flywheel method? or maybe a strape wrench? I've never pulled a boat engine FW but have pulled car harmonic balancers. thanks for nice video an maybe some advise.

yeah ive used a strap too, but mostly i just use the vice grips against the starter. Never gave me any trouble, even with motors 200 and up

Wouldn't this be dangerous, for example, when you've been traveling on the freeway for 2 hours, and the tires are hot?
@mrmaxstorey16 күн бұрын
The tires would not be hot enough to combust the starter fluid, if thats what you are worried about. Besides, this trick is mainly just to seat the tires after they have fallen off. If you cannot rapidly inflate them after like I do in the video, they will just go flat again

This was pretty much the way I figured it would be done as I have done the same process on other power equipment, I just wanted to be sure because I have a mercury with an internally threaded flywheel that I guess if you have a special tool it works easier. Another video describes the process so if he goes two minutes in before he tells you to buy the tool and it’ll the flywheel come right off that was kind of lame to not start off with that. Thanks man and safe boating.

@@mrmaxstorey what do you think about the chain from the starter motor to the flywheel? It could have snapped and block the teeth.

@@IPCRo yea could be. Drain the oil, make sure it doesn't have water in it, and look for chunks of metal or silver flakes. Does the motor move even a little bit? Or is it locked completely tight?

It's been quite popular here in Australia for say four decades but is fading from use now due to increased cost of LPG and increased fuel efficiency of modern cars, also Australia has focused mainly on giving away LPG/LNG to Japan and China for all these decades. Availability of the gas at outlets is dwindling. I learnt that automotive LPG is 50/50 propane/butane and the domestic lpg is pure propane. LNG refers to methane and i understand that in India it's methane thats the main gas but the tanks need to be double thickness and weight for the compressed methane . A gas mixture called hythane is also available being 20/80 % hydrogen to methane blend . Not having the lead additive could cause increased pitting of the valves and seats at the contact points , but if engine wasn't prone to overheating it then was less likely ( people don't consider that exhaust valves operate red hot in an engine and can get a bit tacky if too hot ) . What lead did was to deposit lead oxide coating on everything in exhaust region from valve seats n stems to the tailpipe, the deposit acted as a lubricant. I believe that you know you got quality stelliite valves if they ain't magnetic when you be checking a removed head . When i say gas , i don't refer to gasoline/petrol . If I i say gas , then i mean gas and not a liquid fuel . It's America that has this confusion.

I was just given a 1985 Honda shadow V. T 500 C, and there's the one line that goes from the petcock. Straight to the cylinder head. Then there's a big line with the Spring on it. That goes to the big nipple on the back. Then there's a little nipple on the back. Also, that when you turn the petcock on the fuel shoots out of. And I can't for the life of me, find out where to hook that 1 up to.

I’m guessing the reason why it deflates so fast is because the byproducts of combustion are CO2 and water vapor. As the water vapor cools, it condenses taking up only a fraction of it’s original volume. This is how the can crushing science experiment works where you fill a soda can with steam and immediately place it in a bowl of ice-water. The can is crushed in a fraction of a second from the vacuum created by the water condensing. Edit: There is also the ideal gas law, where a gas shrinks as it cools but I think this would be less pronounced than the water vapor condensing, because water condensing takes up approximately 1/1000 of its original volume. The water condensing would act much faster and be more pronounced than the gases contracting as they cool.
