I took a different approach. I bought a piece of lumber and attached a series of utility plates with HDMI/Coax/AV jacks. I stained it to match the TV stand, attached it to the front of the base, and ran one set of wires to each jack on the back of the TV. I simply take a console off the shelf, place it on the coffee table and plug it into the appropriate plate. No labeling switch boxes, no jungle of wires.

Always cool to see the back end, I stream with native as well. Similar setup however I run my RGB to a spliter. One side goes back to my Toshiba CRT with RGB and the other goes to a Retrotink 2X Pro. Zero lag and the stream gets the high quality signal.

I have a 10 year old Samsung 40' 1080p LED TV and I run my PS2 thru a component cable and it looks amazing. Back in the day I used to have a my PS2, OG Xbox, and Nintendo Wii all hooked into a 3 in 1 switcher that I bought at GameStop. It worked so nice. Still wish I had it. Awesome video guys.

Great setup, fellas! I wish I had the room to put that much stuff into one room, but everything's split between my office and living room. Guys...I bought the $750 Tink 4k 🤑It's really an impressive piece of hardware. It's cool if you're not into that type of stuff, but this is the most powerful upscaler in the history of upscalers, and it has HDMI in so you can upscale you're "modern" consoles. Of course, I have about 12 CRT's at this point, so there's no knock on that. I'm not sure YT will let me leave a link, so I'll just mention the best component switch on the market is the gcomp automatic 8x2 component switch. It's pricey at $300, but it's the Ferrari of component switchers. Lastly, I'll mention that the lag on products like MiSTer and the Tink are basically 0. I have a Time Sleuth, which is a device that allows you to test lag on modern displays (I've tested a lot). What will add lag, is your HDTV, especially if it's not in "Game Mode". My Samsung S90C, for instance, registers 3ms - 4ms in game mode which is 1/4 of a frame. That said, add in an emulation device like the SNES Mini or Pi and the could be upwards of 2 - 5 frames, which isn't so nice when you're playing Punch Out. Anyway, enough with the tech rant. I'm happy you guys got it all sorted

I also have a 36' sony trinitron and that thing is a BEAST! It definitely requires 2 people to move. I bought it 20 years ago brand new and the picture still looks as good as the day I bought it.

I have a 4 input component selector - but it's the Japanese version, D-terminal. It's completely compatible with regular component red, blue and green cables (with adapters). It's the Sony SB-V41D, but it's not common or easy to find. Works great, though.

I like the black tape, silver sharpie idea on the switchers. I've been using blue, ylw, red sticker dots. Might have to switch to something like yours.

Could you guys make a video on the upkeep and maintenance of older consoles? Maybe how you guys keep all your machines cleaned and working properly would make a interesting series showing how to take em apart n clean the internals and put ting em back together. Maintenance is key to keeping them alive.

I gotta get those wall mounted power strips. I have 14 arcade 1 ups and most retro systems. That would be great to keep power off the floor.

That other ElGato u have, the OG HD Elgato, the one with the Component in cables, also has a Playstation Attachment that goes right into the AV port in a PS3, PS2 or PS1. When u plug that into a PS3 it also bypasses that Sony block so u can stream and/or record gameplay. Sometimes those splitters which are great to use, especially the powered splitters, can make the audio lag on a stream or during recording. I have a few Elgatos from being sponsored by them in the past and they are awesome! I love ur setup and love seeing how people setup their stuff. I love the CRTS!!

I did alot of the same thing you guys did. I have multiple switch boxes hooked up to my $1 27 inch tv. All the hdmi systems are hooked up to a 65 inch tv. I like having everything hooked up so I dont have to waste time plugging in systems.

We use the same 8-way composite switch box. I have my SNES, N64, Genesis, GameCube, Dreamcast, TG16, OG Xbox and PS2 hooked up to it which feeds into my CRT. Also have the top loader NES connected directly to the CRT. Main NES is in it's own dedicated area though.

Enjoyed this lads, I love nerdy videos like this. It's a great set up and you can tell you've put a lot of thought into it. It's HDCP that some splitters strip out in order for PS3 and PSTV to work. It's a lottery as to which splitter does it though unfortunately.

Very cool setup, cool video. I decided to treat myself, at age 46, to every console I ever owned, lost, desired, or was interested in. The dream was to have them all, have them all hooked up and ready to play, and hooked up at the best video quality (within reason). One Philips 26” CRT, one 4K HDTV. I got HD Retrovision cables for everything that I could. I got the GCHD Mk ii for the gamecube. Now everything is hooked up through component when possible (NES composite, N64 S-Video), and anything HD through HDMI. The cornerstone is a gComp switch, 8 in, 2 out which means that anything retro can be played in the HDTV (thanks to a Retrotink 5X). Dreamcast, SNES, OG Xbox, all look simply glorious on component on the CRT. I recommend HD Retrovision. You won’t regret it.

I've been very pleased with the retrotink 5x. Some people may complain about some video noise, but I think it's negligible. With the most recent update, all modes are minimum lag. I'm pretty sensitive to lag, and I really don't notice any. The customization on it is awesome (crt filters, masks, different deinterlacing), and EVERYTHING even AV from an NES can look incredible.

Love the setup guys but make sure the PS3 and PS4 have plenty of air round them to save overheating. Especially PS3. 👍

I used to have a Sony bookshelf stereo like that. Mine had CD at the top and the twin tape decks.

I have a Sony 4K 7.2 receiver 1145 watts. It has the Red, White RCA jack inputs. I can hook up NES, PS1 Saga Genisus and PS2 to that to have sound. PS3, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X use HDMI 2.1 hub into my HDMI games port input. PC and laptop use Bluetooth. 4- 12" speaker and a 12" powered bass speaker.

I have trinitron in the basement for retro gaming and a Panasonic with built in dvd and vhs in the other corner for movies. I love playing consoles how they were intended. My closet in my bedroom (5’x5’) I turned into a game room/game storage for myself, I run a curved flat panel computer monitor with super fast refresh rate. A Rad2x for sega and a Carby for my gamecube. I play mostly shooters and input lag is not acceptable. I’ve found these solutions to be fantastic. Gaming in that closet isn’t the most comfortable but I can sit down and enjoy a short retro game uninterrupted in the morning or before bed after my four kids go to sleep. “Life, finds a way”

Great video and great setup! One of my biggest gaming regrets was not being able to keep our 36" Sony Trinitron (similar to yours). It was just too big and too heavy to make it through some of our moves. PS2 w/component cables looked amazing on it.

I bought a RAD2X for my ps1 as I don’t have room for a crt tv. It’s outstanding. Recommended by metal Jesus too. It makes the picture 100 times better…even metal gear solid.

Great vid! A friend of mine bought a 36 inch trinitron before I me him and he said he called his coworkers to help him get it up THREE FLIGHTS OF STAIRS!!!! I told him you’re my friend but you’re paying me for that🤣. He’s been collecting NeoGeo since the 90’s so one game would pay for any medical issues afterwards🤣🤣. My set up is very turn key as well

Great video. I'm going to try that daisy chaining of the component boxes cuz it's been so frustrating trying to find one that holds more than two or three systems. Also I noticed there was a ton of dust on your guys consoles and shelves. What I do for my consoles and shelves as I keep a can of compressed air on hand and I usually give my shelves and my consoles a quick dusting once a day in the mornings just to keep all the dust off everything. And I've got myself a tiny little dust wand. That is the number one enemy of my game room: That pesky dust! Haha

I have the exact same component switch box that i use for my PS1,Saturn,PS2,and SNES. I hook my N64 up to my CRT tv with S-Video. My CRT is a 36-inch sharp. I have a VCR/DVD combo hooked up to the front of the tv via RCA games and movies on a 36 inch CRT tv are so beautiful. Cool video guys from a fellow retro gamer. 😎👌

For me, it was about choices. I've got my nes, snes, genesis and neo geo aes to my CRT via Scart cables(had my nes modded for rgb), sent to a Scart switch box that is fed to a Scart to Component converter, which goes to a component switch to the TV. My turbografx is currently Composite only. Those are my CRT only consoles. The more recent consoles, PS3, PS5, WiiU, and switch are all sent to 4k TV only. The rest have options for both TV's. The PS2, GameCube, Saturn, and N64 run to the 4k TV through HDMI switch box, either via mClassic, behar bros vga box or retrotink. They also are close enough to the CRT that the PS2 has component running through the component switch box, and the dreamcast, saturn, n64 and gamecube are fed through an S-video switch box to the CRT. I'm actually planning on buying another Scart switch box for the CRT, along with Scart cables for dreamcast, PS1/2. And someday, I'll play all those games. I just know it.

Guys I've only just discovered you and man you guys are ao wholesome. Been wanting a setup like yours for the last 10 years but just can't get my head around how to link them all up. It seems so simple watching your video but my autism just tells me "nope give up you'll fail" I'm inapired now and will make it happen. I'm from the UK so not sure if it makes any difference how the mains electric works but i worry about all the power supplies that will be hooked up. Is the power to the console isolated until you turn the individual console on physically? Many thanks, ill be binge watching all your vids in the meantime 🤘🏻

I got so lucky getting my HDMI (It's the same one y'all have) I found it at the pawn shop with the dongle for $10, and all I had to do was get a ps3 charging cord, and we were good to go. I'm personally not a fan of the splitters or anything like that, I got all my cords in baggies chilling in bins, and if I wanna play the GameCube, I'll get the cords. However for modern stuff I do keep the PS5, and the Switch plugged in, just because they're kinda made to be plugged in, so I'll definitely need to get something to get more HDMI ports. Great Game Room setup guys! It’s always cool to see how others have their setups. I too don’t do the Retrotink or Mister thing as well but I did go pretty Batshit crazy on my setup. I’ll go most retro to most modern like you guys did. So I only have 1 console that utilizes Composite video now and that is my Nes. I have that connected Directly into my very large Panasonic Tau Crt. Next, I have 1 System that Utilizes S Video which happens to be my Philips Cdi 220 model. I have this also directly connected to that same Crt. Next, and the primary cable video type I use is Component which is what the majority of my Game systems utilize. I have 2 GComp switchers which are expensive but bad ass. They auto switch for you so you don’t have to press any button or anything. Just turn on the system you want and it detects the signal. I have one of the GComp switches hooked up to that Large Crt I already mentioned as well as a smaller Samsung Crt. The audio is then piped into my Onkyo receiver which supports 5.1 surround sound and which I have an Infinity Center speaker, two Jbl inner speakers and two large Sony speakers on the outskirts along with a Klipsch subwoofer. This Gcomp Switch has my Sega Master System hooked up to it with HD Retrovision Component Cables for a beautiful image. I also have my Rgb modded Turbo duo hooked up to the same switcher with Hd Retrovision Component cables. I have my original Snes hooked to the same switcher with Hd Retrovision Component cables. Next, I have my Rgb modded Panasonic 3do hooked up with Hd Retrovision Component Cables to the same switcher, and finally, I have my Atari Jagaur/Jag Cd hooked up to the same switcher using the Jag2Snes adapter paired with HD Retrovision Component cables. On to the second G Comp Switch! This GComp Switcher I have going to that Large Tau Crt and my 46 inch Led Samsung Hd 3dTV. I have it this way because I have all my retro systems that support either Widescreen, 480p, 720p, or TATE MODE!!! hooked into this switch to utilize these feature when needed. My HD Tv is on a swivel mount so I have a massive Tate mode monitor. Lol. This G Comp Switch has my Model 1 Genesis/model 1 sega cd/32X tower of power hooked up to it using Hd Retrovision Component cables. I have my U.S. Gold System Neo Geo Aes hooked up to the same switcher using HD Retrovision Component cables. I have my Sega Saturn hooked up to it as well using the HD Retrovision Component cables. I have my Original Playstation hooked up to the same switcher using the HD Retrovision Component cables. I have my Rgb modded N64 hooked up to the same switcher with Hd Retrovision Component Cables. I have my Playstation two hooked up the same way but with Oem PS3 component cables and then I have toslink/optical audio switcher on my stereo which the ps2 optical audio out is hooked into. I have my Gamecube/w GB player hooked up to the same switch with the First Party Nintendo Oem Component cables. Finally, I have my Original Xbox hooked up to the same switch using the Xbox oem advanced Hd Component Pack and then utilizing the male to male hd retrovision component cables to hook into the switcher. Also, I have that Optical audio out on the OG Xbox heading to the stereo and Optical out on the Hd Tv sending everything to the stereo that goes to the tv. That sums up component cables. Next, I have my Sega Sports Dreamcast hooked into a Vga monitor using the Oem Sega Vga box and audio running to the stereo. I have an S Video cable for light gun games and games such as Bangaio coming off the Vga box when it isn’t supported. Finally, we get to Hdmi. On the more modern side of the game room, I have my Xbox 360, Playstation 3 fat, Wii U, and Switch all directly connect to that 1080 Hd Samsung 3d tv. Moving to my bedroom, I have a 55 inch LG 4k Tv there with another Switch Dock and The Analogue Duo and Analogue NT Mini Noir hooked up for if I want some Retro goodness on the Hd tv while in bed. Finally, my living room setup consists of an 85 inch Samsung Qled 4k tv with a sound bar setup and it has another Switch Dock there along with my PS4 Pro and finally the Super NT and the Mega SG with a Sega Cd model 2 hooked up to the Mega SG for more HD retro beauty if we want to play games downstairs in the living room. I have all the Bedroom stuff connected to one surge protector. I have all the living Room stuff connected to one Surge protector. I have the HD side of my Game room hooked up to one surge protector. Finally, my retro side has two surge protectors that hold everything and then the Official Sega Power Strip which I keep my Sega Master System, the Tower of power and the Neo Geo Aes hooked up to.😮‍💨 My fingers hurt after all that. Like I said, I went Batshit crazy but love my setup and wouldn’t change much. I do have 2 open component spots left on one of the switchers so I hope to get my Philips Cdi Rgb modded sometime this year for use with the HD Retrovision Component cables to make it even more turn key and sometime down the road, maybe do the same on my Nes. I am not in very much of a hurry though. Cheers and I loved the video idea!

Cables and switch boxes are a whole rabbit hole by themselves. I’m guessing your bottom CRT doesn’t have component inputs. The Genesis, Saturn, and PS1 all have component cables available, not that composite doesn’t look fine on a CRT. Awesome setup!

My grandmother had an RCA wood box TV from 1980-2015. She only turned it off when she slept. We threw it out a few years ago. It still worked fine.

Man this is what I wanted to see so bad. Love this kind of stuff. You have some good tech rocking in there. The Pelican Pro system selectors are great and I have 2 of them but they are hard to get your hands on one with the power supply. If you guys want to ever expand the tech in the room, let me know. Retrowolf did a room tour of my game rooms and I would love for you to take a look and let me know what you think. Also you two are welcome in my game room anytime.

I have a pair of 2008 model Sony Bravia which allows me 6 rwy rca, 8 HDMI, and 4 component inputs combined (2 tvs) directly input to the tvs. I found this setup years ago to be the best set up for me where it's a good mix of old and new. I don't use any adapters or upscalers, everything is standard into the TV. I still have a mess of cords though with everything hooked up but oh well.

I went down a different route, getting almost everything using HDMI I have 17 consoles connected to my aging 65” LG OLED E6 MiSTer, Analogue Super Nt, N64, GameCube, Wii, Wii U, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360 are connected to a 16-port HDMI switch PC, PS4 Pro, PS5, and Xbox Series X are connected directly to my Yamaha Aventage RX-A3050 receiver Saturn and 3DO are my only analog cables, connecting via component and SCART to my RetroTink 5X For movies I am using an Oppo BDP-103 for traditional Blu-ray discs, Panasonic UB820 for 4K discs, and a cheap Pioneer deck for DVDs, all connected to an 8-port HDMI switch

I’ll vouch for what you said. Sonys are top-notch, I have a few. But I’ll be damned if my Zenith TV back in 1993 was not the most incredible looking with only RF or composite inputs. I am always looking to find one again.

Just info, PS3 is encrypted though HDMI, which your splitter handles, but it's not encrypted through component cables. There is bigger switches for component out there, I think gcomp is like 8 in and 2 out but it's expensive and made in limited runs. There is a 6 in 2 out from games care, still pricey imo. I got a retrotink5x and it's actually pretty awesome and damn near lag free. I still love my crts, I got a 36" jvc and a 40" Trinitron cause love my light gun stuff. Real reason I got a retrotink is a space issue, my game room is a small bedroom that all you could fit in there was a queen size bed and a dresser. So currently the Trinitron is in storage and the jvc, it's on a rolling stand so I took the doors off the closet and it tucks in there. It's hooked up and ready to go but basically I got everything running through the flat panel and the 5x can make things look pretty good especially if your TV can display 1440p. Sorry for long post.

I still have an original elgato hd too when they still made them. Haven't gotten rid of it and still have the dongle.

it's tough moving a CRT I have a like. 26-27 inc CRT the brand I don't recognize it's proscan but I got it for free from my uncle and it works for me. I want to say I use the same switch box or a similar 8 one as you and I split the output for streaming. I wish I had a CRT like the one you have with the wood because we had one like that growing up in the family room. it wasn't our main living room so we didn't use it much except like when we had company over or during Christmas when we put the tree up to watch the specials. I have 6 consoles and a VCR hooked up to it.

2 month's ago a friend had a sdtv crt that he was just going to trash it. Yet it still works. I told him i would take it off his hands. I have use for it for my old console systems. I can now play my gun games again. That i have on nes, sega genesis, sega cd and sega saturn. They look great on it. And the tv was free. 27 inch sharp tv.

I have a Sony Wega KV-32HS420 CRT in my game room. That thing weighs 165 pounds. The last time I moved it, my should hurt for weeks. I use it for GC, PS2 and Xbox games in 480p. It will run 720p consoles in a letterbox, since it’s a 4:3 CRT. No lag and component video. It’s great. I also have a Sony KV-27FS120 sitting next to that heavy monster. I use it for mostly light gun games and VHS.

Did you guys know that most of those consoles you run through composite you can run through component without modding your consoles? SNES, TG16, Mega Drive/CD, Saturn, and Dreamcast all have component cables from retro sellers. And you can output PS1 games through component on your PS2. And I have two four-input component splitter boxes, which I daisy chain like you guys, which I found easily online. Maybe things are different in the US?

i have a sony 27 inch trinitron in my bed room and it looks great and it plays great and also sometimes i watch my dvds on my ps2 and its looks great because it was the tv how the ps2 was meant to play on

I noticed one missed opportunity regarding the highest quality native video outputs, you've got two Dreamcasts and you're not using one with the VGA adaptor. To be fair, it sounds like you're going to have to find an older lcd tv that still has VGA, component, and composite in order to do that. I can guarantee that 4k tv doesn't have it. I picked up an older like 2009 Panasonic 32 on the cheap that has all those inputs from a tag sale last year, specifically for that purpose. I use a similar stereo setup to the modern side, have been for years. I currently have a Sony amp from the early 00s, it's just an RCA out to a 3.5mm aux input on the TV. The amp is paired to two full size JBL monitors each with a 10" woofer, 5-1/4" mid and 3.5" high. I do also have a second set of full size Acoustic Research units on the rear channels that I keep disabled, the 12" woofers need to be replaced with new ones. Circling back to the JVC boombox, I just put together a very similar one for dirt cheap. My town has this bulk trash pickup every couple of years, and I found just the receiver of a really nice Panasonic box during the last one this past Sept. Then back in January I found a nice pair of Kenwood monitors for it at Goodwill for 10 bucks. In fact, yesterday I bust out a huge stack of my old CDs and just listened to it out on my patio in the nice weather while enjoying a few brewskis. Ideally I would like to hook that up to my "retro" 32" lcd but I'm very limited with space where I have that set up. Oh yeah, that TV also has a VCR/DVD combo unit on it as well as my cfw PS3 & the 360 slim I got at a tag sale last summer. Really solid setup with smart cable management guys. I'm gonna have to look into getting one of those beefy hdmi switchers cause I'm struggling with my 5 input one.

Thanks to your channel I got myself a 90s 21 inch Sony trinitron and the picture quality of pre-hdmi consoles (PS1, PS2) is the tits! Oh, and look at the difference between dvd quality on modern flat screen and old school crt, it's night and day.

I love my sprite based consoles on CRT as well but for PS1 and up, i was an upscale hater for a while but the retrotink 4k + OLED(asus ROG OLED) smoked my Sony BVM. I was heart brokem my baby was defeated lol. Colors, Details ive never seen. Naturally a crt comes with 8ms(half a frame) because there is no such thing as 0 lag. Human reaction is 240 millisecond(16 frames) You can use a time sleuth to test lag. The results will blow you away 🙂 Tech has come a long way. There are OLEDs with 2.5ms input lag these days. That 5.5 lower than CRT. Still love my Sony BVM! Cheers!

I can vouch that you cannot find the dongle separate for that elgato. I bought the old one thinking I'd be able to track down a dongle... no. Nope. Never found one. I ended up getting some Star tech analogue capture card which worked great. Still have the el gato in the closet lol.

Never dawned on me to daisy chain those switch boxes. I actually have one of those 3 porters (Component) collecting dust since I got a fancy Radio shack 4 porter with remote control. May have to reconsider with your strategy so I can add my 360 for the indie games as I have for my PS3, PS2, Xbox, and Wii backwards compatible to the 27in Toshiba “Color Stream”.

Probably not worth making a video for but having done some of the same things you did I'm always curious about how you handle cable management. That's always the biggest pain in the ass for me when I do this kind of project. I've never been able to get it to where I'm really happy with it.

You may want to reinforce the topshelf of the modern cabinet. Overall it looks nice

Have you tried playing snes or Genesis on the trinitron? I have a similar trinitron and 240p games are ridiculously sharp. Or do you prefer the Zenith for the “era correct” nostalgia?

Love this entire setup. One question: Do you guys ever feel like you wish you had a curved screen instead of your FV300's flat screen? I have an FV300 also, and love it, but it just doesn't feel "right" ("right" basically meaning nostalgic) sometimes. I know you have your NES/SNES etc on your curved screen bottom TV, but what about PS2, Gamecube, etc. Do you feel like you miss playing those consoles on a curved screen at all? I'm assuming you didn't have a flat screen TV in the early 2000s, but I could be wrong haha.

Once I hooked up my PlayStation via a RGB-scart cable for the first time back in the nineties I could never ever go back to composite again. It makes such a huge difference. Same with the PlayStation 2, the GameCube and the Wii of course. Composite looks just so ugly 🤷‍♂

Do you guys have any interest in outputting consoles like Genesis or SNES via HD Retrovision component cables into your FV300? Or at least outputting via S-Video? Seems a little strange that you don't, because y'all are hardcore AF with your gaming haha, but wouldn't you want to use the highest quality video output for each console. Thoughts?

What you need to streem or capture the ps3 is that you need to run console through a hdmi splitter that outputs hdmi 1.4 signal

Tip. If you want to play your retro consoles on a new flat screen, turn off HDR. That will get rid of that fuzzy look. Just remember to turn it back on for the newer consoles.

Do you guys know if they still make CRT TVs compatible with the old stuff? They are very rare and expensive now. Ive been playing dreamcast through HDMI because my TVs wont take the signal of the original cable... but not all games are VGA compatible and wont work on modern TVs. Also my mom used to have that same JVC radio.

I remember reading that a curved CRT is better for light gun games compared to a flat screen version. Have you all tested that before?

I just keep it simple, a PS2 hooked up to a CRT. It's all I need. There are more than enough PS1 and PS2 games to last my lifetime, and they will always be playable in the future. I have a small stockpile of CRTs that I rotate every year, so that should last my lifetime.
