I am a 87 baby, so I grew up starting with GEN 3. GEN 7 has my heart, and Halo 3 was absolutely some of the best online gaming if you ask my opinion (simply because of lan party’s!! We use to have a club in Charlotte where 40 people showed up to party at my friends house for the whole weekend!). The COD series was also incredible during GEN 7, but one of my favorite 3rd person online shooters other than Gears of War is Metal Gear Online with MGS4 (absolutely addictive). KillZone 2 was also pretty impressive as well with BattleField 3. The last of Us multiplayer was pretty good too. I wish we could get that online gaming spirit back like it was because it’s nowhere close to what it used to be.

I have mixed feelings about gen 7. I do think it was the last great generation. It was the last generation where there was an actual substantial leap in graphics as there had been with every prior generation. The games were also great. Rockstar was still releasing big hitters with some sort of regularity. FPS games reached a new level of quality and popularity with COD. Sports games like Fifa, Madden and NBA 2K were still very good before they became lazy cash grabs riddled with micro transactions and "ultimate team" nonsense and basically just yearly roster updates. The fighting genre had a revival with games like Mortal Kombat, Injustice, etc. The hardware reached a point where consoles became true entertainment systems which could not only play games, but be used as Blueray/DVD players, used to browse the web, etc. Online play was free on the PS3. The price of games was still relatively cheap. So it had a lot going for it. Unfortunately gen 7 was also where we would see many bad practices that would start to creep into the gaming industry which would plague it going forward into the next generations. Towards the 2nd half of the generation we would see more "updates" and "patches" to fix issues which led to companies releasing unfinished games in unplayable states in the future, essentially selling incomplete games which they would continue to work on AFTER the release on the customer's dime and time. Greedy and predatory practices like "ultimate team" in sports games started to become more and more prevalent towards the end of gen 7 where developers started to move away from creating great single player content like good dynasty or franchise modes and tried to force the player to play Ultimate Team and play online while making lots of microtransaction purchases. And remasters and remakes would start to become popular which eventually led to them becoming the norm in gen 8 and gen 9 (instead of actual new games or new IPs). And while these practices weren't as pervasive as they would later become...Most of them still got their start in gen 7. I still play my PS3 to this day. I sold my original then repurchased one around 2020 when I wanted a new system to collect for. As there was lots of value and games were dirt cheap. All the games still work, except the NBA 2K games. I tried playing 2K 11 for the Jordan mode...And it simply will not play now, and just freezes during the opening intro. Tried everything and the game simply won't work. Which is a sign of what will happen to most gen 8 and gen 9 games once the servers go down. This would have NEVER happened in generations prior to gen 7 when games were released in full completion on disc or cartridge.

Gaming was great for Gen 7, but I think one thing that brought in the masses was the birth of the streaming services (namely Netflix) for consoles before they had Rokus or fire sticks or smart tvs. I remember controlling Netflix with my voice with Xbox 360 Kinect, and feeling like I was brought into the future! It was cool to play a great game and then jump to Netflix right after. Another cool feature of the xbox 360 is that you could plug in your iPod or even your PSP and stream your music into your games!

Dad checking in here. "Your mom plays Rock Band!" I've been playing since the Atari days and it's hard for me to disagree here. But we we all have a natural bias. I wonder if someone our age will feel the same way about the current generation in 10-15 years? Who knows. I think another factor is that it's overall too risky financially to take the risks like console makers and game designers did in Gen 7. I mean, ask yourself: what is new/innovative in the current generation? Outside of the hybrid Nintendo console, I'm struggling to find anything. Rather than new, we get better. It's not necessarily a bad thing as we've had some amazing games both new and remastered, but the safe route just isn't as exciting IMO.

PS2 has better exclusives, but XBOX is a way better console. I'm a big sports game fan, although I don't care about wrestling games. Arena Football, Madden 2005, and Madden 2006 are the best football games imo.

I’m 37 and the xbox360 is my first adult game console. I graduated high school in 2005. Got my system shortly after that. So I have a different kind of nostalgia attached to the 360. My son was born in 2006 so 360 and wii is his system he grew up on.

I got a Super Famicom because I wanted to play all the SNES games from my childhood on original hardware with the FX PAK PRO, the first EverDrive that gave you nearly a full compatibility. The store I bought it at threw in STREET FIGHTER 2 TURBO loose with the purchase, and I thought that would tide me over for a month or so until it was time to get the FX PAK. Then I saw how stupid cheap all my favorite games were on Japanese proxy buying sites. Put together a small collection and now a few months later, I've got 30 games and have totally caught the bug. I got rid of all my other video game dedicated hardware (obviously I use my computer for work so I still have a modern game platform if I want it) and am loving it. If you want a 2D system to collect for GO FOR THE SUPER FAMICOM. It's a feast of riches for not much money.

I think Nintendo is in a unique positon. It's not as powerfull but it still sells more because they have good API's and is a more affordable option. Nintendo do very well with games for younger kids. Sega could do things their way as well without being just another PC pretending to be a console. Sega could provide their own games and API's, but also include the community to make games on it, as an open platform with good and user friendly tools. It could also serve as an educational device. My point is, they could offer something new and different.

Awesome video again boys. I have a PS4 Pro with the VR and an Xbox One X (what's the point of getting new gen consoles when these are 4K and shit is still released on em) and my 8 yo girl just wants to play the Wii and Xbox 360 Kinect with me if it's not her games on the 8th ven consoles. And she fucking LOVES the Wii! She LOVES Kinect as much as the PS4 VR! Cheers boys 🍻

I was born in 93 and totally agree the graphical jump from Gen 5 to Gen 6 was insane. Then the jump from gen 6 to 7 was also insane. The sweat on the player's visible on the sports genre games. The boom of online gaming exploding in schools Halo 3 Reach, The OG CODs, GTA IV graphical jump from San Andreas this gen dare I say had balls too games like world at war, Blitz The Leauge Two. It made gaming a "cool" "in" thing to do talk about at school it was no longer labled at you being a nerd playing video games. The lobbies in all games on gen 7 these kids wouldnt ever survive 😅😂😂

I think the thing for me is . Anything I want to play that’s on 360/ps3 , a majority of them got either remastered or ported over with the dlc to the next Gen. Like for me only a few games I wish were playable on the newer systems like WWE games, Green Day Rock Band, Tony Hawk games, PS All Stars etc.

I don't know what to do lads. I just got myself a wee Honda 110cc Scooter. And one of my favourite things to do is to ride to a gamestore and look at ps2 and 360 games to ease my depression. But I don't know if I should upgrade to an xbox one or a ps4 or even a ps5 or series X. Don't know what to do. I just finished Hitman Absolution and enjoyed it (stuck it on easy, ran anout like John Wick). I've just never had an 8th gen or 9th gen and people say the visuals are just so much better. I I Don't want a console that requires internet connection either.

Totally agree with the Gen7 game consoles really being the last to have developers allowed to have innovative ideas and stories for their games like Bayonetta and Lollipop Chainsaw to name a few. Also with a few minor sized updates from time to time the game was entirely on the disc without the need to download and install half or more of it like you had to later on with the later consoles. I also feel that's why retro style games and popularity for the previous gen consoles is on the rise as many gamers are becoming fickle and disillusioned with how the gaming industry is becoming and the big publishers an general from Ubisoft to EA.

I love and own both but San Andreas took GTA to a whole other level. From the soundtrack to the fact that you can swim(didn't understand why in Vice City surrounded by all that water that it wasn't a feature) the story was the best in the series as well as you being able to learn different fighting styles, vehicle customization, going on dates, all star cast and cameos, flying different aircraft (boats, bikes, etc) going to the bar and gambling and playing pool (2 players also) as well as gambling at and owning part of a casino along with multiple RPG elements. It even has features that some of the later GTA games don't have. All that said I can safely say without a doubt that San Andreas is my favorite game off all time 💯

Oh I don't know if we're talking about the PlayStation 4 one that actually did have some decent games like you said, blood and truth. I love the idea of being able to play RE seven and resident evil eight in VR. I will say that I felt like there was too many cables with the PlayStation 4 version. I wouldn't mind getting the PlayStation 5 version. I think it would be worth it just to be able to play the resident. Evil games. Anything else on top of that would just be a bonus to me. And besides, I would say it's ten times better then that piece of garbage meta quest, which has no RE games.

I agree with you guys. I still have the most nostalgia for generation 6, but in terms of innovation and amazing titles across the various consoles, generation 7 seems to be the last. I have an Xbox One, and I recently got an Xbox Series X, and I have a ps4, and sure, they have some high quality graphic games. But nothing that has scratched the itch since the sixth and seventh generation. While the recent consoles are powerful, I do feel like gaming has been in somewhat of a slump for the last two generations.

I grew up in the 80s and for me Gen 7 was awesome because I could kick back and game with friends online after work (and I still play with these people to this day). It was the last gen of non-broken games, affordable gaming, and like you said, games play and look like modern games. I love every console from the NES to modern, but Gen 7 was the best!!!

I had a Gamecube as a kid and skipped the 7th gen. I got into playing guitar instead, but my friends all had 360s. Here are my thoughts on that gen... I think the Wii as a console won't get too expensive. They just sold too many units (100+ million) for them to become scarce. I see them locally for 40 - 80$ all the time. The games however... could get up there in price if that generation of kids feels the nostalgia bug bite soon. Then again, I looked up the wiis game list.. Other than wii sports, galaxy, twilight princess and smash brawl (I prefer melee), I don't see there being many hard hitters to pull people back to the wii in a big way. Here are some game sales numbers to prove how much wii sports was the big seller and the nostalgia crowd is therefore limited. Yes wii sports was bundled with the console, but it was still why most people bought the wii based off these numbers. Wii sports 82.90 million MK wii 37.38 million (already a big dip) Wii Resort 33.14 million Smash brawl 13.32 million Galaxy 12.80 million Twilight princess 7.50 million Prime 3 1.41 million PS3 and 360 went head to head for the "real edgy 2007 gamers". The PS3 was expensive at launch and the 360 was a reliability dumpster fire. Both issues were resolved in their later years. I think the online component not working properly will really kill a part of these consoles collectability. I can imagine people wanting to bring back the online days of Cod 4, Cod 5 WaW, Cod 6 MW2 and Cod 7 BLOPs. If that doesn't work anymore, it will kill so much steam that gen could otherwise have for collecting. They also sold a ton of consoles and games this generation for both companies, so I can't see them jumping in price for at least the next 5 - 10 years. As you said for the Wii U "low sales numbers and scarcity can make a consoles used market pop harder than expected years later". This gen didn't have that issue.

That gen 8 and up nostalgia is really gonna suck. Game servers will probably be non-existent for most games, not to mention game updates. People like to talk about retro game preservation, but it's these more current generations that aren't being preserved.

Y’know what I wish gaming companies would do today ? Make a original installment to a video game port. Konami did it with some games on genesis and snes. If they did that today consoles would be worth owning today. So few exclusives today. Except for Nintendo. They in their bag for 7 plus years with switch.

I'm honestly so glad I have my Wii still that I preordered back in the day. It runs great and looks pretty good with the wii2hdmi. We have the Series S and a PS5, but I feel like down the road those won't be worth keeping because a lot of it revolves around online. I loved gen 6 because I prefer a normal controller vs having to use the wiimote, but I got rid of the gamecube because my wii plays gamecube games. I also appreciate the fact that any game that uses the wii classic controller seems to be compatible with the gamecube controller.
