Many new receivers do not have 300 ohm fm antenna connections which are the 2 wire ones, they only have a 75 ohm plug for FM antenna. If you need to hook up a wire antenna to a FM plug this shows you how.

That little 75-300 adapter you used there: have you ever taken one apart and looked inside? I'll bet you haven't. Nine out of 10 have direct connections--two little jumper wires and nothing else. There's no ferrite choke transformer like they're supposed to have. If you're getting poor reception, this is probably why. Make sure you're getting what you're paying for.

#1 Lesson: *NEVER* throw away lil parts like this one thinking you'll *never* *need* *them* *again.* I actually found that 300 to 75 (Radio Shack) from probably 30 years ago, in a bag of old odds/ends and used it for a great amplifier I just bought at a thrift shop for 10 bucks!! Analogue rules!!

😂 I also just found my adapter...also from AT LEAST 30 years ago. I feel bad for all these minimalist dummies throwing away perfectly good items. We are the Haves...they are the Have Nots! 😅

A dipole antenna is about 70 ohms, close enough. A folded dipole on the other hand is close to 300 ohms.

My tuner doesn't have that round connector. Instead, it has a bolt n screw to attach a bare wire. Has a separate bolt n ground screw, too.

I have an old Pioneer SX-550 Receiver. It takes 300 and 75 ohm antenna, however it does not have a female coax. It only has the twin lead terminals. I know that sounds weird, It would be easy to explain if I could send you pictures and the manual. My question is, if I buy a 75 to 300 converter, do I plug into the 75 terminals or the 300 terminals?

Yes I texted a minute ago about vsx-521;reciever my buddy took the little antenna box out of my reciever it just has the holes were the box came out of back i got a box out ifba Sony reciever can I put this in pioneer or not and could you show me how to hook this little box up or what i need to do

One question, how could I know if my antenna is 75 or 300 ohms? My antenna's conector is a thin male F type and the one in my stereo system is a thick male F type. Thanks in advance!

Here's a question. I have an '87 Yamaha reciever that never makes anything easy on me. It has spots in the back in a row of four - 300 bal, 75 unbal (both under a FM heading), a spot under AM, and one that's marked ground. I have ZERO idea how to hook up this old Terk FM antenna my dad gave me from his old hi-fi. It splits into two wires like you mentioned but I don't know if they get split into which spots on the back of the unit or what.

what if I have the other way around, bare wire connector marked 75 ohm(like the AM shown) and a coaxial antenna male connector (ANTOP amplifier).

You can use it however usually it is specifically for 75 ohm antenna

Really does not matter the gauge, Length, just about 3ft a side.

If your not interested in AM, do not worry about that antenna. Only hook up the FM antenna!

That "T" is the chassis ground.

I should say me four, as I have the same problem. I just used an am loop antenna and it works fine. A paperclip got signals when positioned right. Try that

pinto xavier I found a solution I got a car radio and wired it to a 12 volt plug in the house and car radios get way better signal than House radios. I’ve loved it since. Just make sure you don’t wire it to a plug that’s more power that 12 volts.

Benjamin Matejka search car radio in house hook up. It’s way better just make sure it supports your speaker and make sure you use a 12 volt plug no more power then that

I have a FM 75 ohm coaxial FM port. I have the same cable as you in the video but it doesn't fit! The outside ring of the port and the cable are the same size :( I am in desperate need to find a cable. I broke my old one. Do you know what I should search for on amazon/ebay?

I'm in the same position. I have a Yamaha RX 595. I just bought the below from ebay and not only are the outer rings of the adapter and Stereo's FM antenna input the same width, the the male portion of the adapter is too thick/wide for the inner ring female part of the FM input. The width of the adapter's male portion is about 5/16". Of course, everywhere I look, there are no dimensions for that piece of the adapter. It appears there are other adapters that have a thinner male portion, but all are called the same thing, and difficult to determine by photos. I cannot think of where to find one locally. Too bad Radio Shack is more or less gone. I bought a couple of the ones below and they too, won't fit. I was hoping the outer ring would fit inside the Yamaha's plug but both are about the same diameter. The receivers come with the adapters for coax plug on the receiver, as referenced in the manual, but it's long gone. These are handy and it's only one wire instead of the usual "T." I believe the adapter per ring would go over the Yamaha port.

I have this port (first photo) as depicted by the seller's listing below. The adapter sold cannot slip between the opening in the Yamaha port. The plug being sold is the same size as any 75ohm coax connector. I found out that my Yamaha (R-1000) and many from this vintage has a PAL connector, so I will either need to make my own or find a proper one. I have a transformer that receives the coax and turns it into two wires with a fork, but where should I put these two wires, if the FM input is only one and on its side has this GND?

+don stromberg It does not matter as you may have to move the antenna around to get the strongest signal. However most higher priced receivers now are only putting the 75 ohm connectors on the receivers but the adapter will work fine. If your signal is strong enough and your stereo light is one, you are good to go!

This is WRONG!!! A dipole (T shaped) antenna is 72 ohm. That is close enough to 75 ohm to work. You do not need a 300 ohm to 75 ohm matching transformer. 4 to 1 matching transformers are for more complicated antennas like a folded dipole or multi element tv antennas. Google dipole antenna and 75 ohm antenna. Less than $10 on Amazon. Just make sure to get the proper connector, F-type(US) or PAL(European) for your receiver's input. There are F-type to PAL adapters also.
