Standing in Goodwill so my niece can do some shopping, and I’m flicking Vases as I watch my toddler play with the toys. I think it’s time I start collecting to honor my mother(God rest her beautiful soul!!!), because she collected Crystal throughout my childhood, and even named me Crystal because of her love for Crystal. Thanks for the tips!!

I recently acquired an American Brilliance cut crystal bowl with similar patterns for $12.99 at a local charity thrift shop. It's one of my best finds and is one of my favorite pieces.

Yeah I have been collecting vintage decanters for a home bar until I read about the lead leeching into the alcohol if stored in lead crystal for extended periods. Lead crystal is still safe to use it's just not safe for long term storage.

It is perfectly safe to use for serving purposes but do not store food or liquid long term in lead crystal as the lead can leech out into the food/liquids. I have some crystal decanters that are safe to serve from but not safe to store alcohol in.

Honestly there is probably more lead in the food we eat than what would leech out of these dishes.

Not necessarily. I have several pieces of Waterford crystal, and they are not sharp to the touch. I also have an American brilliant glass oval bowl, and it does have sharpness to the touch, especially with the saw-tooth edging. Also, my American brilliant glass bowl is cut much deeper than the Waterford pieces, so that probably has something to do with feeling some sharpness. The American brilliant glass bowl that I have may not have any lead content, not sure. It doesn't have the same sound of bell-like "ping" as my lead crystal pieces.

I keep seeing contradicting statements on this so I think sharpness or roundness is not a reliable indicator by itself.
