Lalique glass is another famous type of French glass. Rene Jules Lalique, 1860-1945, is known for his uncolored glass, his perfume bottles, statues, vases, jewelry, chandeliers, clocks, hood ornaments, and more. Rene attended Sydenham Art College in London. After that, he worked as a freelance artist, designing jewelry and eventually opened his own business. He was known as one of Frances most renowned Art Nouveau jewelry makers. In the 1920s, he jumped into the newer category of Art Deco. These pieces aren’t quite old enough to be antiques. Rene passed away in 1945, but his work is still esteemed and treasured today. His granddaughter, Marie Claude-Lalique was also a glass maker who carried on her grandpa’s legacy. She passed away in Florida in 2003. Each and every original Lalique piece is marked “Lalique” and the pieces that were made during Rene’s lifetime are marked “R. Lalique.” This is good news for collectors. Some of Rene’s earliest pieces are marked with his very own thumb print.

Hello, Just found your video on line. I'm surprised that we've never crossed paths considering that I've been selling Rene Lalique in England since the late 1980'S. I tend to specialise in his coloured vases these days..Best wishes, Jan Afford.

I just watched your excellent video. I inherited an 8 1/2' Tall lalique looking nude figurine. It has a B in a broken square at the base. As I just learned from you, there is a seam down the middle. Could you tell me what the initial means, etc.? Thank you.

Not sure on that one. It might be best to have someone look at it in person. Sounds like a beautiful piece. Enjoy!

I have a waterford crysstal bowl but I can't find the watermark it was a wedding present in 1981. Didn't realize it was a waterford until I saw pattern on internet. how do I find it? I've looked all over with a magnifying glass?

Look under natural light. Carefully hold your bowl under the natural light of a window. If that doesn't work it may not be Waterford or have a mark. Do you have a piece of Waterford or Lalique?

I just found your video & learned many things about Lalique that I didn't know. I have the Lalique crouching cat & standing cat in frosted crystal that I bought in the 1970's. I also have a couple of other small pieces..one is a small vase. I'm interested in selling the cats as I'm moving into a retirement center & really have no need to hold on to them any longer. Do you have an idea what they're worth & where I might sell them to a legitimate buyer?

Every time you pick it up I get nervous. I don’t have any Lalique, but I’m always scared to pick up the precious glass ware that I do own. I’m not clumsy, but I get nervous anyway and heaven help any guest who tries to touch it. 😬

It doesn't make me as nervous as picking up a premie the size of a baked potato...I used to do that in the NICU.
